Healing potential regarding catalpol and geniposide in Alzheimer's disease and also Parkinson's illnesses: A snapshot of their underlying systems.
Histology refers to the study of the morphology of cells within their natural tissue environment. As a bio-medical discipline, it dates back to the development of first microscopes which allowed to override the physical visual limitation of the human eye. Since the first observations, it was understood that cell shape predicts function and, therefore, shape alterations can identify and explain dysfunction and diseases. selleckchem The advancements in morphological investigation techniques have allowed to extend our understanding of the shape-function relationships close to the molecular level of organization of tissues, as well as to derive reliable data not only from fixed, and hence static, biological samples but also living cells and tissues and even for extended time periods. These modern approaches, which encompass quantitative microscopy, precision microscopy, and dynamic microscopy, represent the new frontier of morphology. This article summarizes how the microscopy techniques have evolved to properly face the challenges of biomedical sciences, thus transforming histology from a merely qualitative discipline, which played an ancillary role to traditional "major" sciences such as anatomy, to a modern experimental science capable of driving knowledge progress in biology and medicine.Holoparasitic plants are interesting heterotrophic angiosperms. However, carrion- or faeces-mimicking is rarely described for such plants. There is no information on the pollination biology of Cynomoriaceae, despite the fact that these plants are rare and vulnerable. This is the first study to reveal pollination in a member of this family, Cynomorium songaricum, a root holoparasite with a distinctive and putrid floral odour. From 2016 to 2018, we studied the floral volatiles, floral visitors and pollinators, behavioural responses of visitors to floral volatiles, breeding system, flowering phenology and floral biology of two wild populations of C. songaricum in Alxa, Inner Mongolia, China. A total of 42 volatiles were identified in inflorescences of C. songaricum. Among these volatiles are compounds known as typical carrion scents, such as p-cresol, indole, dimethyl disulphide and 1-octen-3-ol. C. songaricum is pollinated by various Diptera, such as Musca domestica, M. stabulans (Muscidae), Delia setigera, D. platura (Anthomyiidae), Lucilia sericata, L. caesar (Calliphoridae), Wohlfahrtia indigens, Sarcophaga noverca, S. crassipalpis and Sarcophila meridionalis (Sarcophagidae). The inflorescence scent of C. songaricum attracted these pollinators. The plants significantly benefit from insect pollination, although wind can be a pollen vector in the absence of pollinators. C. songaricum is a cross-pollinated, self-incompatible plant. Our findings suggest that C. songaricum releases malodorous volatiles to attract Diptera to achieve pollination. This new example lays the foundation for further comparative studies in other members of this plant group and contributes to a better understanding of fly-pollinated, carrion mimicking plants.
Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition that in one third of cases starts in the first two decades of life. The disease might impact the quality of life (QoL) of the affected children and their caregivers. The issue of gender differences in the assessment of psychological burden of dermatological conditions has been the subject of few studies with contradictory results.

The aim of this study was to investigate the differences in the impact of childhood psoriasis on mothers' and fathers' well-being using Family Dermatology Life Quality Index (FDLQI).

Forty-five children with psoriasis (31 girls and 14 boys; mean age±standard deviation (SD) 10.53±3.44years) and their parents (45 mothers and 45 fathers) were included in the study. Both parents of each child were asked to separately fill in the validated Polish version of the FDLQI questionnaire.

Comparing the FDLQI scores, the QoL of mothers was significantly more impaired than the QoL of fathers (13.44±6.46 versus 9.53±6.12 points; P<0.0001). In motherng should be taken into consideration while developing educational programmes for patients and their families. There is a need for further, multi-centre research that would take into account geographical and cultural differences, in order to reliably assess the impact of childhood psoriasis on various aspects of caregivers' QoL.Environmental impact assessment studies are mandatory for major industrial or infrastructure projects in most countries. These studies are usually limited to on-site impacts during exploitation but do not consider indirect impacts generated off-site or those concerning other steps of the project, including dismantling. National regulations in various countries have recently begun to include these neglected impacts to obtain a better appreciation of project trade-offs. Several scientists have highlighted the substantial potential of using the life cycle assessment methodology to increase the level of detail and completeness of environmental impact assessment (EIA) studies. Even if mining activities are known to produce significant local impacts, their consequences outside an extraction site have not yet been well documented. The implementation of the life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology in the EIA procedure has been carried out in a Au mining project by separating on-site and off-site impacts during the entire life cycle of the mine from prospection to site restoration following the end of exploitation. Mining projects occur over large time periods and require diverse materials and processes. The main difficulty of such analysis is the data collection that needs to be extrapolated for some of the activities. Even with these limitations, the Afema case study highlighted the significant share of off-site impacts (from a spatial perspective) and the major contribution of the exploitation phase of the mine (from a temporal perspective). Operating activities, especially excavation, ore, and waste rock transportation, blasting, ore processing, and tailing treatments, are the main impacts produced during the exploitation phase and are involved in climate change, particulate matter formation, and land destruction. Therefore, this standardized LCA method should be recommended by the regulatory authorities for use in EIA procedures. Integr Environ Assess Manag 2021;17465-479. © 2020 SETAC.
