The proposed electrochemical aptasensor may be served as a potential platform for exosome detection and exosomal proteins profiling.Deposits of fluid mud on wave-dominated beaches are rare. Where they happen frequently and periodically, they can be associated with anthropic processes that bring fluid mud to the shoreface and surf zone. To determine the reason for the frequent deposition of fluid mud at Cassino Beach (Southern Brazil) in the 2014-2020 period, the La/Eu and Gd/Yb ratios in marine, beach, and adjacent Patos estuary sediments were investigated. Mud from the beach showed similar ratios of REE to dredged sediments from the harbor basin and navigation channel within the estuary. Industrial and port activity changes REE ratio in sediments of the navigation channel, and they are distinct from naturally deposited marine and estuarine sediments. We conclude that the mud deposition events at the beach are most likely associated with dredging processes in the estuary especially where overflow is the source of fluid mud on the beach shoreface. The concentrations of the heavy metals Cu, Pb, Zn, As, Cr, Co, and Ni of a total of 187 surface sediment samples collected from the western Taiwan Strait were analyzed. The distribution characteristics and degree of contamination of these elements were investigated. The mean concentrations of Cu, Pb, Zn, As, Cr, Co, and Ni in the surface sediments of the study area were 10.2 mg/kg, 18.3 mg/kg, 51.7 mg/kg, 7.5 mg/kg, 38.7 mg/kg, 8.0 mg/kg, and 16.5 mg/kg, respectively. The heavy metals in the study area were mainly from natural sources. The regional pollution load index (PLIzone) was 0.64, indicating that there was no contamination, and an area with a relatively high PLIzone was found in the northern part of the study area. Furthermore, the impacts of the rapid development of Fujian's marine economy on the marine environment in the past decade should be further compared and analyzed.Plastic pollution in the oceans has become a global problem, but its documentation is disparate around the world. We assess the abundance and type of microplastics in three benthic matrices mussels, small fishes, and bottom water; in three sites nearby Puerto Madryn city (Patagonia, Argentina). Microplastics were present in the three matrices for all sites sampled. The average amounts of items observed were 1.6 and 0.3 per total wet weight in fishes and mussels, respectively, and 10.5 per liter in bottom water. Mussels and fishes presented a difference of microplastics size comparing with the surrounding bottoms waters; fishes also presented color discrimination, suggesting the necessity of more than one bioindicator to perform microplastic pollution monitoring. Moreover, small fishes had more MPs in their gastrointestinal tracts than bigger ones. The present study is the first one about the interaction between MPs and small aquatic organisms in coastal marine environments from Patagonia.A bacterial consortium immobilized in magnetic floating biochar gel beads is proposed to remove high-molecular-weight polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. The microbial consortium performed better than single strains and consisted of four strains of marine bacteria for degrading pyrene (PYR), two strains for benzo(a)pyrene (BAP), and three strains for indeno(1,2,3-cd)pyrene (INP), which were isolated from oil-contaminated seawater. The immobilized cells could biodegrade 89.8%, 66.9% and 78.2% of PYR, BAP and INP, respectively, and had better tolerance to pH, temperature and salinity than free cells. The Andrews model was used to explore the biodegradation kinetics, and when the initial concentrations of PYR, BAP, and INP were 7.80, 3.05, and 3.41 mg/L, the specific biodegradation rates reached maximum values of 0.2507, 0.1286, and 0.1930 d-1, respectively. The immobilized microbial consortium had a high HMW-PAH removal ability and good floatability and magnetic properties and could be collected by an external magnetic field.Human activities in coastal catchments can cause the accumulation of pollutants in seafood. We quantified the concentration of heavy metals, pesticides and PFASs in the flesh of the fisheries species yellowfin bream Acanthopagrus australis (n = 57) and mud crab Scylla serrata (n = 65) from 13 estuaries in southeast Queensland, Australia; a region with a variety of human land uses. Pollutants in yellowfin bream were best explained by the extent of intensive uses in the catchment. Pollutants in mud crabs were best explained by the extent of irrigated agriculture and water bodies. No samples contained detectable levels of pesticides, and only six samples contained low levels of PFASs. Metals were common in fish and crab flesh, but only mercury in yellowfin bream from the Mooloolah River breached Australian food safety standards. High pollutant presence and concentration is not the norm in seafood collected during routine surveys, even in estuaries with highly modified catchments.Oil pollution resulting from natural and anthropogenic activities in the Arabian Gulf as well as oil residue in the form of tarmat (TM) deposited on the coast is a major environmental concern. The spatial distribution, chemical composition and weathering pattern of tarmat along the west coast of Qatar has been assessed based on the TM samples collected from 12 coastal regions. The range of TM distribution is 0-104 g m-1 with an average value of 9.25 g m-1. Though the current TM level is thirty-fold lesser than that was found during 1993-1997 (average 290 g m-1), the distribution pattern is similar. The results of ATR-FTIR spectroscopy indicate that aromatic compounds are higher in the north (N) coast TMs than those found in the northwest (NW) and southwest (SW) coasts, and Carbonyl Index values indicate that TM of NW coast is highly weathered compared to those found in the N and SW coasts. In this study a novel sustainable method based on supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) method was developed for simultaneous extraction and fractionation of petroleum biomarkers. We herein proposed a two-step supercritical fluid extraction method for crude oil and tar ball to separate the petroleum biomarkers into aliphatic and aromatic fractions. Sunitinib PDGFR inhibitor In the first step, pure scCO2 was used, while scCO2 modified was used as a solvent in the subsequent step. CO2 SFE can serve as an environmental-friendly alternative to common column chromatography method for petroleum biomarker or compositional analysis by GC-MS. The extraction process was shown to be selective, according to the polarity of the solvent, providing fractionation of aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons. Yet the total extraction procedure in SFE was significantly faster than column chromatography methods (~80 min vs. 8 h). We will discuss the implications of this SFE method as a novel sustainable alternative to the existing extraction techniques.
