The results suggested an impact on quality of life in terms of worse role functioning for this patient group (95.0 vs. 88.8; p=0.03).

Based on our analyses we hypothesize that in EC patients, radiation-induced myocardial fibrosis plays a central role in cardiac toxicity leading to AF, conduction changes and ultimately to decreased role functioning. The results emphasize the need to verify these findings in larger cohorts of patients.

A potential challenge in single-isocenter multi-lesion lung stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) is that patient positioning is not based on each lesion individually, but on the average position of all lesions. This may lead to larger margins compared to treating with one isocenter per lesion, but increases workflow efficiency. The aim of this study was to investigate whether a single-isocenter technique leads to increased normal lung dose compared to a conventional multiple-isocenters technique.

A cohort of 15 NSCLC patients with two or three lesions previously treated with SBRT was subjected to treatment planning with a multiple-isocenter technique and a single-isocenter technique. For the latter, two margin approaches were evaluated (1) identical margins for each internal target volume (ITV), assuming an average registration for all lesions in cone-beam CT (CBCT) positioning verification and (2) a smaller margin for the largest lesion, assuming an optimal registration for that lesion. For all 45 treatment plans, mean lung dose (MLD) and lungs-V
were evaluated. The study was performed following RATING guidelines.

The MLD was 4.9±1.9Gy (mean±SD) for multiple-isocenters and 5.4±2.1Gy and 5.3±2.2Gy for single-isocenter approach 1 and 2, respectively. V
was 5.5±3.7%, 5.5±3.2% and 5.4±3.3%. A median [range] increase in MLD of 11.6% [-14.9 - 26.8] was observed when comparing single-isocenter treatment plans to those with multiple isocenters. V
increased by 0.2 [-3.4 - 1.3] percentage points.

A single-isocenter SBRT technique for lung patients with multiple targets results in clinically acceptable increases in normal lung dose.

Financial considerations and the desire to not prolong training often influence residents' parental leave length. Some residencies offer parenting electives. PIK75 These primarily self-directed electives can extend parental time at home, support transition back to work, and allow residents to remain in training and be paid during these transitions.

Describe the prevalence and structure of parenting electives within pediatric residency programs from 3 geographic regions of the Association of Pediatric Program Directors (APPD).

All 66 pediatric residency program directors in the Western, Mid-America, and Northeastern regions of APPD were invited to participate in a phone interview regarding existence of and structure of their programs' parenting elective.

Thirty-six programs responded (55%). Of those, 24 (67% of responding programs) offer a specific parenting elective and an additional 5 (14%) offer a generic elective that can be tailored to new parents. Curricular elements shared by almost all programs offering specific parenting electives include self-reflective exercises, exploration of a community resource, and parenting articles/book review. Most programs incorporate clinic but not call into these electives.

Parenting electives are increasingly available in pediatric residency programs to support new resident parents. Sharing common curricular elements may help other programs implement and/or enhance this elective offering.

No standardized evaluation tool for fellowship applicant assessment exists. Assessment tools are subject to biases and scoring tendencies which can skew scores and impact rankings. We aimed to develop and evaluate an objective assessment tool for fellowship applicants.

We detected rater effects in our numerically scaled assessment tool (NST), which consisted of 10 domains rated from 0 to 9. We evaluated each domain, consolidated redundant categories, and removed subjective categories. For 7 remaining domains, we described each quality and developed a question with a behaviorally-anchored rating scale (BARS). Applicants were rated by 6 attendings. Ratings from the NST in 2018 were compared with the BARS from 2020 for distribution of data, skewness, and inter-rater reliability.

Thirty-four applicants were evaluated with the NST and 38 with the BARS. Demographics were similar between groups. The median score on the NST was 8 out of 9; scores <5 were used in less than 1% of all evaluations. Distribution of data was improved in the BARS tool. In the NST, scores from 6 of 10 domains demonstrated moderate skewness and 3 high skewness. Three of the 7 domains in the BARS showed moderate skewness and none had high skewness. Two of 10 domains in the NST vs 5 of 7 domains in the BARS achieved good inter-rater reliability.

Replacing a standard numeric scale with a BARS normalized the distribution of data, reduced skewness, and enhanced inter-rater reliability in our evaluation tool. This provides some validity evidence for improved applicant assessment and ranking.

Recent efforts have witnessed a revolutionary strategy for KRAS G12C inhibitors with exhibiting conspicuous clinical responses across multiple tumor types, providing new impetus for renewed drug development and culminating in sotorasib with approximately 6-month median progression-free survival in KRAS G12C-driven lung cancer. However, diverse genomic and histological mechanisms conferring resistance to KRAS G12C inhibitors may limit their clinical efficacy. Herein, we first briefly discuss the recent resistance looms for KRAS G12C inhibitors, focusing on their clinical trials. We then comprehensively interrogate and underscore our current understanding of resistance mechanisms and the necessity of incorporating genomic analyses into the clinical investigation to further decipher resistance mechanisms. Finally, we highlight the future role of novel treatment strategies especially rational identification of targeted combinatorial approaches in tackling drug resistance, and propose our views on including the application of robust biomarkers to precisely guide combination medication regimens.Octocrylene (OC) is an extensively prescribed organic ultraviolet B filter used in sunscreen products. Due to its extensive use, a significant level of OC is detected in marine and freshwater environments. Notably, the bioaccumulation of OC in aquatic biota may affect human health. In this study, the effect of OC on metabolism was investigated using the adipogenesis model of human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (hBM-MSCs). OC promoted adiponectin production during adipogenesis in hBM-MSCs compared to the vehicle-treated control (EC50, 29.6 μM). In target identification, OC directly bound to peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) γ (Ki, 37.8 μM). OC-bound PPARγ also significantly recruited nuclear receptor coactivator proteins SRC-1 (EC50, 54.1 μM) and SRC-2 (EC50, 58.6 μM). In the molecular docking simulation study, the optimal ligand-binding mode of OC suggested that OC is a PPARγ partial agonist. A competitive analysis with a PPARγ full agonist pioglitazone revealed that OC acted as a PPARγ partial agonist. OC altered the gene transcription profile of lipid-metabolism associated enzymes in normal human keratinocytes, primarily exposed human cells after the application of sunscreens. In conclusion, OC is a potential metabolic disrupting obesogen.Parkinson's disease is a chronic, progressive neurodegenerative disorder affecting 2-3% of the population ≥65 years. It has long been characterized by motor impairment, autonomic dysfunction, and psychological and cognitive changes. The pathological hallmarks are intracellular inclusions containing α-synuclein aggregates and the loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra. Parkinson's disease is thought to be caused by a combination of various pathogenic factors, including genetic factors, environmental factors, and lifestyles. Although much research has focused on the genetic causes of PD, environmental risk factors also play a crucial role in the development of the disease. Here, we summarize the environmental risk factors that may increase the occurrence of PD, as well as the underlying molecular mechanisms.
Throughout history, Humans have always used tar for different purposes such as gluing materials, waterproofing, and conserving wood, but today, it is also used in medicines and cosmetics. Many countries around the world, Norway and Morocco to name a few, obtain tar from endemic trees. In a process of dry distillation, the organic material, endemic trees in this case, is exposed to a high temperature with a restricted amount of oxygen. Eventually, it cracks the large molecules in the matter and turns it into tar.

This review article sheds light on tar production and the species that have been used in the process. Equal emphasis is placed on its uses, chemical composition, and toxicity.

Meta-analysis (PRISMA) guidelines have been used to review this article. The review is put together from various articles, theses, documents in "Science Direct", "Hal (Archive ouvert)", "Web of knowledge" without limitation date.

It turns out that tar can be produced by 18 tree taxonomic families, notably Cupressaceae, Pinaceae, and Betulaceae. As for the production techniques, two methods are considered Per ascensum and Per descensum, which can take different forms. The chemical composition of tar consists of acids, phenols, and aromatic hydrocarbons. The uses of tar have changed over time, while its toxicity is strongly related to its chemical composition.

The different species used in tar production have been highlighted in this research review. Equal importance has been given to its methods of extraction, uses and its chemical components. We hope that future studies will focus more on these species used to produce tar in other biological activities.
