The timing of antenatal steroids (ANS) on short- and long-term effects on newborn infants was evaluated.
This study was conducted at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center Level-III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit by reviewing the medical records of all women with history of ANS exposure from January 2015 to December 2018. We compared outcomes of newborns delivered within the ideal therapeutic window of 24 hours to 7 days (within window [WW]) after administration to those exposed and delivered outside the therapeutic window (outside window primary group [OWP]). Outcomes included anthropometrics, blood sugars, thyroid hormone profile, and neonatal morbidities.
A total of 669 patients were identified as having received at least two doses of ANS. Two-thirds of them delivered within the ideal therapeutic window. Elevation of serum troponin I has been reported in newborns with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), but it is diagnostic and prognostic utility for newborn under 6 hours is not clear. Study the predictive value of early serum troponin I levels in newborns with HIE undergoing therapeutic hypothermia (TH) for persistent residual encephalopathy (RE) at discharge.
Retrospective chart review of newborns admitted with diagnosis of HIE to neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for TH over a period of 3 years. Troponin levels were drawn with the initial set of admission laboratories while initiating TH. Newborns were followed up during hospital course and stratified into three groups based on predischarge examination and their electrical encephalography and cranial MRI findings Group 1 no RE, Group 2 mild-to-moderate RE, and Group 3 severe RE or needing assisted medical technology or death. Demographic and clinical characteristics including troponin I levels were compared in each group.

Neonatal sepsis (NS) is a serious neonatal disease. The aim of this study was to detect the role of zinc (Zn) supplementation in preterm neonates with late-onset sepsis (LOS).
A prospective randomized clinical trial study which was done at Tanta University Hospital from August 2016 to March 2018 on 180 preterm neonates with LOS. The studied neonates were divided into two groups group 1 (90 neonates), which received Zn and antibiotics, and group 2 (90 neonates), which received antibiotics and placebo. In group 1, the neonates received 1.4 mg elemental Zn/kg/d orally for 10 days. Sepsis score, C-reactive protein (CRP), and procalcitonin (PCT) were done for both groups.
As regards sepsis score, it showed that before beginning the treatment, there were 85 and 84 neonates who had high probable sepsis (HPS) in intervention and control groups, respectively, and this revealed nonstatistically significant difference (non-SSD) between both groups (

Evidence from controlled trials has shown that lanreotide autogel is effective in achieving biochemical and symptom control in patients with acromegaly. However, it is important to better understand the real-world patient population receiving lanreotide autogel treatment.
In this non-interventional study the long-term treatment response to lanreotide autogel in adult patients with acromegaly from office-based centers or clinics in Germany, Austria and Switzerland was studied. Assessments included growth hormone and insulin-like growth factor-I levels, symptoms, quality of life, lanreotide plasma levels and tumor somatostatin receptor subtype expression. The primary endpoint was achievement of full biochemical control, defined as growth hormone ≤2.5 µg/L and insulin-like growth factor I normalization at month 12.
76 patients were enrolled from 21 sites. 7/51 (13.7%) patients of the efficacy population had full biochemical control at baseline, 15/33 (45.5%) at month 12 and 10/26 (38.5%) at month 24 of treatment. At 12 months of treatment higher rates of biochemical control were observed in the following subgroups older patients (>53 years [median]), females, treatment-naïve patients, and patients with a time since diagnosis of longer than 1.4 years (median). No clinically relevant differences in acromegaly symptoms or quality of life scores were observed. Median fasting blood glucose and glycated hemoglobin levels remained unchanged throughout the study. No new safety signals were observed. Overall tolerability of treatment with lanreotide autogel was judged by 80.8% of the enrolled patients at month 12 as 'very good' or 'good'.

To investigate bevacizumab as alternative treatment of aggressive pituitary adenomas after exhaustion of standard therapies.
Retrospectively, 3 patients undergoing microscopic transsphenoidal surgery of aggressive pituitary adenomas from 2008 till 2018 that were treated with bevacizumab were identified. Development of disease and treatment were evaluated.
Two patients suffered from ACTH-secreting adenomas, one from a non-functioning adenoma. All patients underwent multiple surgical, chemo- and radiotherapeutical approaches including temozolomide, showing favorable results in one patient. Deterioration of clinical condition in all patients led to an individual, palliative attempt of bevacizumab. Patients 1 and 2 showed a decrease of ACTH after first administrations, but therapy had to be ended shortly after due to a further deterioration of their condition. link2 Patient 3 showed a stabilization of the disease for 18 months. Patients died 8, 15 and 7 years after initial diagnosis, respectively, and 2, 4, and 2nical experience, an approach with bevacizumab can be considered as an individual palliative attempt of treatment, when standard treatments are exhausted. The aim of this study was to describe clinical and imaging features of thoracic vertebral canal stenosis secondary to the hypertrophy of the vertebral lamina and articular processes in screw-tail brachycephalic dog breeds, to evaluate the prevalence of the malformation in a large group of screw-tail dog breeds and to determine if degree of stenosis is associated with presence of neurological signs.
This is a retrospective multicentric study.
Clinical records of 185 screw-tail brachycephalic dogs (French Bulldogs, English Bulldogs, Boston Terriers) and Pugs were reviewed. Ten dogs with neurological deficits secondary to thoracic vertebral canal stenosis diagnosed on magnetic resonance imaging were identified (Group 1). Neurologically normal dogs (
= 175) of the same breeds underwent computed tomographic imaging of the thoracic vertebral column for other medical reasons (Group 2). Cross-sectional measurements were used to calculate a stenotic ratio.
Group 1 consisted of three French Bulldogs, six English Bulldogs and one Pug. Eight were males. Most dogs presented with progressive non-painful pelvic limbs ataxia and paresis. Twenty stenotic sites were identified with the most common being T4-T5. Three of ten dogs were treated surgically and all had a good long-term outcome. In Group 2, 33 of 175 dogs had one or more stenotic sites with the most common being T2-T3. The degree of the stenosis was significantly higher in Group 1 (
= 0.019). A stenotic ratio of 0.56 had sensitivity and specificity of 67% to differentiate between dogs with and without neurological signs.
