BACKGROUND Pathological conditions of the thyroid hormone (TH) system are routinely diagnosed using serum concentrations of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), which is sufficient in most cases. However, in certain conditions, such as resistance to TH due to mutations in THRB (RTHb) or TSH-releasing pituitary adenoma (TSHoma), TSH may be insufficient for a correct diagnosis, even in combination with serum TH concentrations. Two hundred fifty-five informal caregivers completed an online questionnaire via Qualtrics. Treating communication neglect as the mediator, and caregiver anger and hostility as moderators, the results suggested that caregivers who perceived their older care receivers displaying problem behaviors were more likely to engage in communication neglect, which then led to psychological abuse. Moreover, the joint effects of communication neglect and caregiver anger and hostility intensified caregivers' likelihood to commit psychological abuse. These findings provide initial evidence to further investigate the importance of communication neglect and dysfunctional behaviors such as anger and hostility in explaining psychological abuse in informal caregiving for older adults.BACKGROUND Despite the excellent survival of most patients with differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC), recurrent and persistent disease remain major concerns for physicians and patients. However, studies on patient report of recurrent and persistent disease are lacking. METHODS Between February 1, 2017 and October 31, 2018 we surveyed eligible patients who were diagnosed with DTC between 2014 and 2015 from the Georgia and Los Angeles Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) cancer registries (N=2,632; response rate, 63%). Patients who reported current disease status were included in this study (n=2,454). Patient reported data were linked to registry data. A multivariable, multinomial logistic regression analysis was conducted to determine patient and tumor characteristics associated with recurrent and persistent thyroid cancer. Quality of life was evaluated using the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS)-Global Health v1.2 questionnaire. Meaningful change in global health wred to the general population norms. Median scores in patients with cured or recurrent disease did not meet criteria for meaningful change. CONCLUSIONS Patient report is a reasonable method of assessing recurrent and persistent disease. Impact on quality of life is more marked for patients with reported persistent disease. Our findings will help personalize treatment and long-term follow up in these patients.BACKGROUND Iodine supplementation is recommended to pregnant women in iodine deficient populations, but the impact in moderate iodine deficiency is uncertain. We assessed the effect of an iodine containing prenatal multiple micronutrient supplement in a rural Gambian population at risk of moderate iodine deficiency. METHODS This study uses data and samples collected as a part of the randomized controlled trial ENID, (Early Nutrition and Immune Development, ISRCTN49285450) conducted in Keneba, The Gambia. Pregnant women ( less then 20 weeks gestation) were randomized to either a daily supplement of multiple micronutrients (MMN) containing 300 µg of iodine, or an iron-folic acid (FeFol) supplement. Randomisation was masked to participants and investigators. The co-primary outcomes were maternal urinary iodine concentration (UIC) and serum thyroglobulin (Tg), assessed at baseline and 30 weeks' gestation. Secondary outcomes were maternal serum thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), total triiodothyronine (TT3), totalg moderately iodine deficient women during pregnancy improved maternal iodine status and reduced Tg concentration. However, the effects were not attained postpartum and maternal and infant iodine nutrition remained inadequate during the first six months after birth. Methods We analyzed data from an online sexual harassment survey conducted with a nationally representative sample of U.S. adults in 2018 (N = 2,009; response rate 29%); current analyses were restricted to employed participants (women n = 610, men n = 690). Data on occupation and industry were each categorized as female-dominant (61%-100% female), male-dominant (0%-39% female), or at parity (40%-60% female). We used sex-stratified logistic regression models to assess associations between gender parity in industry and occupation and workplace sexual harassment.
