In the present work, we propose the synthesis of novel nicotinamide subsituted phthlocyanine photosensitizer (PS) and characterized by FTIR, UV-visible, H-NMR and MALDI Toff spectroscopy. Nicotinamide plays a vital rule in the central nervous system and its potential as a therapeutic for neurodegenerative disease. Nicotinamide substituted PS (3) efficiently produced ROS via type-1 process as measured by DCF assay. We observed that our PS after red light illumination (22 J/cm2) killed gram positive S. aureus upto 3 log reduction. Furher the addition of Potassium Iodide (100 mM) significantly potentiated PS at lower concentrations and enhanced the bacterial killing upto 6 log reduction against the S. aureus. selleck products We further found that the synergistic effect of PS and KI also eradicated the gram negative E. coli strain at lower concentraion of PS and found to killed E. coli upto 5 log reduction under the red light illumination at 22 J/cm2 of light dose. The conjugation of such biologically important form of vitamin B3 with PS would be a great addition and could pav the way for the novel photodynamic agent in the treatement of cancer and infectious diseases. A new symmetrical Nicotinamide tetrasubstituted zinc phthalocyanine (3) was synthesized. Upon addition of potassium Iodide with PS, the PS exhibited significant photodynamic activity with 5-6 logs reduction in bacterial load was achieved.
As a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic drug, ciprofloxacin (CIP) is frequently used in the treatment of a wide variety of infections. However, the residues of this antibiotic pose a big threat to the aquatic environment and human health. In this research, Lactobacillus reuteri WQ-Y1 with CIP degradation ability was screened and identified.
L. reuteri WQ-Y1 with a degradation rate of 65.1% for 4µgmL
CIP was screened from 17 lactic acid bacteria (LAB), and cytochrome P450 enzyme was confirmed to promote the degradation of CIP by L. reuteri WQ-Y1. Meanwhile, the CIP degradation rate were also higher in 48h' culture time when co-cultured with 1mg/mL of glucose in the culture media. Furthermore, result also proved that fluoroquinolone antibiotics with the similar piperazine ring structures could be degraded by L. reuteri WQ-Y1.
L. reuteri WQ-Y1 could degrade fluoroquinolone antibiotics with the similar piperazine ring structure. However, future work still needs to be done on the confirmation of the key enzymes in the cytochrome P450 enzymes family in the biodegradation. The isolated ciprofloxacin-degrading strain L. reuteri WQ-Y1 had a CIP degradation rate of 65.1% at 24 hours, and one biodegradation metabolite was identified and proved to be an important metabolite of CIP from cytochrome P450 enzymes family hydrolysis with UPLC-MS/MS spectrograms approach.

The application of phytases helps in releasing bound phosphorus and other nutrients in cattle feed eventually reducing the need for supplementations. However, high production cost owing to the unavailability of cheaper sources of phytases has limited their usage in developing countries. Herein, firstly isolation, identification of a phytase from fungal isolate, Aspergillus niger NT7 was carried out followed by optimizing of all production parameters, through solid-state fermentation (SSF). Secondly, crude phytase was characterized and potential applicability of crude phytase was evaluated for dephytinization of wheat bran.
The highest phytase production (208.30 ± 0.22U/gds) was achieved using wheat bran as cheap agro-industrial substrate for SSF. The various physiological parameters were optimized including inoculum age and level (3-day old inoculum and 15 × 10
spores/ml), temperature (35°C), a moistening agent (distilled water), medium pH (5), and supplementation of various biochemicals like sugar (Mannitol), nitrogen (ammonium sulphate) and detergent (Tween 80). Process optimization through one variable at a time (OVAT) approach increased the difference in productivity to more than 200%. The crude phytase of A. niger NT7 was thermostable, with optimal activity at 60°C and also displayed optimal activity over a broad range of acidic pH. Further, enhancement in phytase activity was found specifically in the presence of Ca
, Zn
, and Co
ions, while other metal ions including Fe
, Fe
, Mn
, Mg
and Cu
inhibited its activity. Finally, the phytase showed efficient and sustained release of inorganic phosphate, proteins, and reducing sugars (> 60h) from livestock feed.
Overall, our report highlights the production of an efficient and thermotolerant phytase with potential as a low-cost animal feed supplement.

In our study, we aimed to evaluate the change in attenuation of lens in CT images, volumetric changes, in lacrimal gland (LG) and nasolacrimal duct (NLD) of the patients receiving radiotherapy for brain or head & neck tumor. Additionally, the correlation between these changes and radiation dose data were investigated.
Patient simulation CT images and control CT images were used to evaluate the volume and attenuation changes. Pre- and post-treatment MR and CT images were used to evaluate radiation-induced volumetric alterations in NLD and LG, respectively. Radiation therapy was given to a total dose of 54-70Gy with conventional fractionated scheme using intensity-modulated radiotherapy technique (IMRT). Dose volume parameters were evaluated via dose volume histograms (DVHs).
Dose volume parameters, volume and densities of 59 lenses (L), 60 LG and 60 NLD of 30 patients were retrospectively assessed. The median LG volume was significantly lower in the post-treatment images (p < 0.001), whereas the median volumes of NLD in pre- and post-RT images were similar.
