Ini adalah sebuah prasasti batu rune, yang berukuran 4,2 meter. Rune awalnya tidak digunakan untuk menulis. Melainkan untuk hal-hal yang bersifat magis. Dan untuk hal-hal yang membuat daya tarik serta hal-hal yang berhubungan dengan ramalan. Nama rune itu sendiri artinya adalah 'Rahasia' yang tersembunyi. Yang berarti menunjukkan, pengetahuan tentang rune sangatlah terbatas. Untuk waktu yang lama diasumsikan bahwa ini semacam prasasti besar adalah penggunaan utama dari rune, dan bahwa penggunaan mereka dikaitkan dengan kelas sosial tertentu Rune-carvers. di tengah tahun 1950-an, sekitar 600 prasasti yang dikenal sebagai Bryggen prasasti ditemukan di Bergen.
