They might be at risk of developing anxiety and depression, which are often misdiagnosed as bipolar disorder.
Diagnosis
Women's symptoms are less well-known than men's, making it difficult to determine. Doctors often look for a specific set of symptoms that are more common in boys and aren't aware of the subtleties of the disorder as it affects girls, especially during puberty, PMS or perimenopausal and menopausal estrogen levels decrease. Depression can also be a co-occurring condition with ADD in a lot of women and must be treated. You can better understand your symptoms and the condition by reading a few books on ADD/ADHD prior to seeing the doctor. You will be more comfortable and confident during the diagnosis process.
