Upgrades to items are a method to increase the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade it can increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity and boost additional stats.

Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a certain amount.

Item Level

When an item gets upgraded, its basic stats improve in value. The value is the sum of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be costly, dependent on who you employ and what you do. This is due to the variety of perks that have to be changed in order to upgrade an item.

Item level is a popular measure of power, and can be found on all tooltips of items. item upgrades is also used to limit how much PvP gear players are able to wear as PvP is restricted at a lower level. Players can view their average item level in their character sheet.

When deciding whether to buy or sell gear, players can compare the item level. It's an excellent indicator of the quality of an item and how much damage it will be able to deal. Comparing items in a vendor's stock is possible using the level of the item.

The item level can be seen by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the full item description, including its ilvl. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel into chat.

There are several theories about how the level of an item is determined. One theory is that the item level is a numerical value derived from a formula that determines the value of an item's stats are worth. It takes into consideration the fact that different perks have different worth and that gems in sockets increase the value of the item overall. This can lead to an item's ilvl calculated, which is often very close to Blizzards actual item level.

However, this is not the only factor which determines the ilvl of an item, as the level of the region the item is dropped into can alter the value of its stats, for instance by adding a level to its haste or crit rating. Items dropped in higher-level instances will have a higher value.

Item Stats

The stats of an item are a major component of what determines the value of an item for players. The game uses a variety of them in various ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and to prevent one weapon from being "the best." The base stats on a weapon are boosted by the weapon's stat mods, which are themselves boosted by the player's level.

Upgrades to an item can boost its stats. The rarity of an item determines its upgrade cost. An item that is white or grey for instance, will only be upgraded once, while an item that has rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times at more expensive costs.

Another method of altering the stats on an item is to use affixes. They are stat boosts which can be added by the player to an item. The affixes can provide the item extra damage, add a special capability to the item (such as reviving dead or cutting down the duration of cooldowns), or make the item unique by adding an exclusive name to the item.

All affixes can be currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade window, and pressing the green button. This will cost a specific amount in gold and items. These can be used as upgrade gauges, just like the other methods of rerolling.

Players can upgrade an item to a specific stat or reroll the affixes. The stat ranges are determined by the item's level. However, all items will contain at least one stat in the same range, unless it's an exclusive item or an item that has a God Roll from a boss in a raid.

Another thing that could be changed by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without having to reroll the affixes, or selecting which stats to boost. But as with base equipment, this would need to be carried out on a per-item basis and the interface for comparing items would not display all the possible stats gained or lost at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat for a player adds up to increase the odds of finding items, the properties spawned on loot drops, and the intensity of these properties. However, it does not directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player the chance to upgrade their gear earlier in the game. This is particularly advantageous for early game runs, because players tend to put weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the probability of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall upgrade chances, which increase with each item level. item upgrading is also possible to be increased by using anti-materials, such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.


Weapons, shields, and armor can be made or spawn using the Luck property, with an initial value of 40. These items can then be enhanced by golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant an additional +40 Luck or to boost the existing Luck of an item, up to 140.

Certain items, such as the weapon that is infused with hollow can also be crafted to increase the damage dealt by any ability that is able to deal damage by five percent. These items can be bought in the shop or crafted using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items can be costly and not all upgrades will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to boost the chances of success for an upgrade, or to protect players from losing their item if it fails.

When you upgrade an item, the success rate is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage is the probability of successful upgrading an item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special Materials. The probability of success can only be increased so high, and the probability that an upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%.

The luck of an item may influence the effectiveness of an upgrade. Every item has a success rate of 25%, and each item with Luck increases this chance by 5%.

It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the items in the inventory, so enchantment glint and other effects may be obscured by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
