World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Item upgrades can be used to improve the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade, it may increase the rarity of an item, or its Mark Level, and also boost other stats.
Each item has a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a specified amount.
Item Level
When an item gets upgraded, its basic stats increase in value. This is the sum of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades to items can be costly, depending on the upgrader and the kind of upgrade you decide to do. This is due to how many perks have to be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded.
Item level is a commonly used measure of power, and can be found on all tooltips for items. It also serves to limit the amount of PvP gear players are able to wear as PvP is restricted at lower levels. The average level of the item is listed on the character sheet.
The level of an item can help players evaluate the potency of gear when deciding to purchase or sell. It's an excellent gauge of an item's worth and how much damage it will be capable of causing. Comparing items in the inventory of a vendor can be done using the item level.
On PC, you can view the item level by pressing ALT or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the item's full description, including ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel into chat.
There are a few theories about how the calculation of the item's level is done. One theory is that the item level is a numerical value derived from a formula that determines the value of an item's stats are worth. It is based on the fact that different advantages are valued differently and that gems found in sockets increase the item's value. This can lead to a calculated item's ilvl that is often very close to Blizzards actual level of the item.
However, this isn't the only factor which determines the ilvl of an item, because the level of the area the item dropped in can change the value of its stats, such as by adding an amount to its haste rating or crit rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have more the ilvl than items from lower level instances.
Item Stats
Stats on an item are a significant component of what determines the value of an item for players. The game uses a lot of them in different ways to encourage players to use multiple weapons, and to prevent one weapon from being "the best." The stat mods on a weapon boost the base stats. These stat mods are then enhanced by a player's skill.
Upgrades to an item can boost its stats. The rarity of an item determines the cost of upgrading. A white or grey item for instance, will only be upgraded one time, while an item with rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times with more expensive costs.
Affixes are another way to alter the stats of an item. item upgrader Casesgg are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Affixes can be used to give the item extra damage, add a special capability to the item (such as reviving dead or reducing the duration of cooldowns) or make the item unique by giving a special name to the item.
All affixes are re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade window, pressing the green button. This will cost a specific amount in gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, similar to other methods of rerolling.
Players can upgrade an item to a specific stat, or reroll affixes. The possible stat ranges for an item are based on the level of the item, but every item is guaranteed to have at least 1 stat within the specified range, unless it's a unique item or an item that is a God roll from a boss of a raid.
This is another aspect that can be modified by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without having to reroll the affixes, or selecting which stats to enhance. As with the base equipment, it must be done per item, and the item comparison interface wouldn't display all possible stats simultaneously.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player boosts the chance of finding items as well as the properties generated by loot, and the intensity of these properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or ability to upgrade items. It merely gives players the chance to acquire better equipment in earlier waves and is thus more beneficial in early game runs than later ones as most players prioritize greater weapon scaling and defense over raw damage gains.
In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the chances of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall upgrade chances that increase with each item level. They can also be increased with the use of anti-materials, such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
The shields, armor and weapons have an initial Luck value of 40. These items can be augmented with golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the material they are made of) to add another 40 luck or to increase an item's existing Luck up to 140.
Moreover, certain items, like the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow can be used to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items can be purchased in the shop or made using the correct ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades are successful. However, there are cash shop items that allow players to increase their chances of success or even prevent them from losing an item in the event that the upgrade fails.
When you upgrade an item the rate of success is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of successfully upgrading that item and it can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations to the extent to which the success rates can be improved and the probability of a failed upgrade cannot be greater than 100%..
The success of an upgrade is also affected by the Luck of that item. Each item has a base success rate of 25% and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5%.
Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the inventory items, so enchantment glint and other effects may be masked by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
