46.52.2 or 118.41.30.8], were repellent at all concentrations tested. Our results suggest that (-)-α-pinene and (-)-β-pinene are the major active components of the alarm pheromone of M. viciae, but that mixtures play a key role in the alarm response. Our study contributes to the understanding of the chemical ecology of aphids and may help design new control strategies against this aphid pest. The pine brown tail moth, Euproctis terminalis (Walker 1855), is a periodic pest in pine plantations in South Africa. The larvae feed on pine needles and can cause severe defoliation when population densities are high. Population densities fluctuate temporally and spatially, complicating the prediction of potential growth loss and tree mortality. The aim of this study was to identify the sex pheromone of the pine brown tail moth to provide stakeholders with a tool for monitoring it. Gas chromatography-electroantennogram detection and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry analyses of female pheromone gland extracts identified the major component as (Z,Z,Z,Z)-7,13,16,19-docosatetraen-1-ol isobutyrate. Traps baited with (Z,Z,Z,Z)-7,13,16,19-docosatetraen-1-ol isobutyrate caught more males than unbaited traps. A delta trap was shown to be a superior design compared to a bucket funnel trap. This pheromone can now be used for monitoring E. terminalis in pine plantations.Fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda) is a major global pest of many crops, including maize (Zea mays). This insect is known to use host plant-derived volatile organic compounds to locate suitable hosts during both its adult and larval stages, yet the function of individual compounds remains mostly enigmatic. In this study, we use a combination of volatile profiling, electrophysiological assays, pair-wise choice behavioral assays, and chemical supplementation treatments to identify and assess specific compounds from maize that influence S. frugiperda host location. Our findings reveal that methyl salicylate and (E)-alpha-bergamotene are oviposition attractants for adult moths but do not impact larval behavior. While geranyl acetate can act as an oviposition attractant or repellent depending on the host volatile context and (E)-4,8-dimethyl-1,3,7-nonatriene (DMNT) is an oviposition deterrent. These compounds can also be attractive to the larvae when applied to specific maize inbreds. These data show that S. frugiperda uses different plant volatile cues for host location in its adult and larval stage and that the background volatile context that specific volatiles are perceived in, alters their impact as behavioral cues.In order to evaluate the effects of lanthanum nitrate on the development of the parent, offspring, and the third generation of Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats, a two-generation reproductive toxicity experiment, was conducted. Two hundred and forty specific pathogen-free (SPF) healthy SD rats were randomly divided into the control group, low-, medium-, and high-dose group, with 30 male and 30 female rats in each group. The rats in each group were given 0 mg/kg, 10.0 mg/kg, 30.0 mg/kg, and 90.0 mg/kg lanthanum nitrate by gavage, respectively. There was no statistically significant difference between the weight gain and food intake of rats in each group. High-dose lanthanum nitrate had no effect on rat implantation and no embryo toxicity. The absolute and relative liver weights of F1a and F1b male rats in the high-dose group were significantly decreased. The absolute liver and spleen weight of F1b female rats in the high-dose group decreased significantly, but the relative weight did not change significantly. Histopathological examination results showed that there were no significant differences in the effects of different doses of lanthanum nitrate on the uterus, ovaries, oviduct, testes and epididymis, and liver of SD rats. Under the experimental conditions, 90.0 mg/kg lanthanum nitrate had an effect on the liver weight of the SD rats, but there was no liver toxicity. The no visible harmful effect level (NOAEL) of lanthanum nitrate on SD rats' reproduction toxicity is 90 mg/kg.In pharmacometrics, understanding a covariate effect on an interested outcome is essential for assessing the importance of the covariate. Variance-based global sensitivity analysis (GSA) can simultaneously quantify contribution of each covariate effect to the variability for the interested outcome considering with random effects. The aim of this study was to apply GSA to pharmacometric models to assess covariate effects. Simulations were conducted with pharmacokinetic models to characterize the GSA for assessment of covariate effects and with an example of quantitative systems pharmacology (QSP) models to apply the GSA to a complex model. In the simulations, covariate and random variables were generated to simulate the outcomes using the models. Ratios of variance explained by each factor (each covariate and random effect) over the overall variance of the outcome were used as sensitivity indices. The sensitivity indices were consistent with the effect size of covariate. The sensitivity indices identified the importance of creatinine clearance on the pharmacokinetic exposure for a renally-excreted drug. These sensitivity indices could be applied to plasma concentrations over time (repeated measurable outcomes over time) as interested outcomes. Using the GSA, each contribution of all of the covariate effects could be efficiently identified even in the complex QSP model. Variance-based GSA can provide insight when considering the importance of covariate effects by simultaneously and quantitatively assessing all covariate and random effects on interested outcomes in pharmacometrics.Relationships between sluggish cognitive tempo (SCT) and age and IQ were investigated in children with autism and/or ADHD covering broader age and IQ ranges than in previous studies. Mothers rated 1436 children with autism and 1,056 with ADHD (2-17 years, IQs 9-149) on Pediatric Behavior Scale SCT items. Increasing age correlated with SCT in the autism, ADHD-Combined, and ADHD-Inattentive samples. SCT prevalence rates were 22% preschool, 29% early childhood, 41% late childhood, and 50% adolescence. Correlations between IQ and SCT were small and negative. SCT was lowest in children with above average intelligence. Children referred for autism and ADHD should be assessed for SCT, irrespective of IQ and age, given SCT's high prevalence and association with social and academic impairment. The dormant or latent form of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) is not killed by the conventional antitubercular drugs. The treatment of latent TB is essential to reduce the period of treatment as well as incidences of drug resistance. In this background, we have made an attempt to develop the quantitative structure-activity relationship models (QSAR regression and classification based) against the dormant form of MTB and later used the developed classifier models (linear discriminant analysis (LDA) and random forest (RF)) for the two-fold classifications. The logic of applying this concept of two-fold classification for the MTB modeling is to increase the confidence of correct classification. The 2D-QSAR modeling suggested the contribution of burden eigen, edge adjacency, van der Waals (vdW) surface area, topological charge, and pharmacophoric indices in predicting the antitubercular activity against the dormant MTB. T-5224 research buy The prediction qualities of the training and test sets were found to be moderate and good, according to the mean absolute error (MAE)-based criteria's. The LDA and RF models unveiled the importance of burden eigen, edge adjacency, Geary autocorrelation, and drug-like indices as discriminating features to differentiate the antitubercular compounds into higher and lower active groups. The LDA model showed the classification accuracies of 85.14% and 87.10% for the training and test sets, while the RF model exhibited the accuracies of 100.00% and 80.65% for both the sets. The descriptors selected in the final models are only two-dimensional (2D), which are easy to compute and does not require computationally expensive steps of structure conversion, optimization, and energy minimization mandatorily needed before the computation of 3D descriptors. These models could be used for identifying and selection of higher active compounds against the dormant form of the MTB.Children's inflammation may be an important link between parenting behaviors and health outcomes. The aims of this systematic review were to (1) describe associations between parenting behaviors and child inflammatory markers, and (2) evaluate the relevance of existing literature to the review question. Database searches identified 19 studies that included a measure of positive or negative parenting behaviors and a marker of child inflammation, 53% of which measured parental responsiveness/warmth. Greater parental responsiveness/warmth was associated with lower levels of child pro-inflammatory markers in 60% of studies. Across studies, the association between parenting and child inflammation varied as a function of parenting construct, inflammatory measure, and sample characteristics. Studies were highly relevant, with 42% rated 5 + out of 6 for study's ability to address links between parenting behavior and child inflammation. If future research uncovers causal effects of parenting behaviors on inflammation, parenting interventions could be employed as a preventative tool.Early exposure to maternal depression is a key risk factor for child mental illness (MI), but there are limited programs that interrupt intergenerational transmission. The BRIDGE "Building Regulation in Dual Generations" Program treats maternal MI using Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills with a paired curriculum that promotes non-reactive and emotionally validating parenting designed to improve child mental health and ultimately prevent MI. The pilot feasibility trial (n = 28 dyads) included mothers and their preschool-aged children. The 20-week program was completed in a group-based format using mixed methods questionnaires and interviews. Results indicate high feasibility and acceptability (86% retention). Consistent improvements were seen across program targets and outcomes including maternal depression (d = 1.02) and child mental health (d = 1.08), with clinically significant symptom reductions for 85% of clients. Mothers with higher adversity exhibited greater reductions in parenting stress. Qualitative results highlighted efficacy in promoting positive parent-child relationships, rewarding parenting experiences, competence, and child development. Evidence suggests high feasibility and accessibility for BRIDGE in addressing intergenerational mental health needs. There was strong satisfaction with the program material and efficacy across key outcomes. BRIDGE holds promise for offering a transdiagnostic approach to preventing child MI in families of at-risk preschool aged children. We compared the hyperangulated McGrath X-blade with the Macintosh-type CMAC videolaryngoscope through the use of manual in-line stabilization on patients. The primary hypothesis was that the McGrath X-blade has a similar first-attempt success rate as the CMAC videolaryngoscope. 210 patients of ASA physical status I to III, aged 21 to 80 years old, undergoing general anesthesia requiring tracheal intubation were prospectively recruited into this two-centre randomized controlled trial, from June 2016 to April 2019. Patients with history of or predicted difficult airway, pre-existing dental risks, BMI > 35 kg/m2, cervical spondylosis or myelopathy, aspiration risks, patients who declined to participate or lacked the mental capacity to give consent were excluded. Participants were intubated using either hyperangulated McGrath X-blade (MGX) or Macintosh-type CMAC (CM) videolaryngoscopy, with manual in-line stabilization. Primary outcome measured was first-attempt tracheal intubation success. Secondary outcomes included overall successful intubation within 2 attempts or 120 s, time to intubation, glottic view obtained and intubation-related complications.
