It is suggested that difference in H2O2 tolerance between closely related filamentous cyanobacteria, as revealed in this study, may be taken into account for judicious selection and effective use of strains in biotechnological applications.
To evaluate the available evidence regarding clinical effectiveness of clear aligner treatment (CAT).
A comprehensive literature search was conducted for systematic reviews investigating effectiveness of CAT published up to July 15, 2021. This was accomplished using different electronic databases. No language restriction was applied. Screening, quality assessment, and data extraction were performed by two authors independently. Information was categorized and narratively synthesized for the key findings from moderate and high-quality reviews.
A total of 361 potentially eligible reviews were identified. After excluding the non-relevant/low-quality reviews, 18 systematic reviews were included. CAT was found to be effective for mild to moderate malocclusions, and was associated with inferior outcomes when treating severe cases or with achieving specific tooth movements. There were conflicting results regarding treatment duration; however, CAT may be associated with shorter treatment in mild to moderate cases. Relapse was greater with CAT, while periodontal health was better. The risk of root resorption tended to be lower with CAT. Regarding pain, the results were unclear, although CAT was found to be more comfortable and associated with a reduced impact on eating and chewing.
The level of evidence regarding CAT is moderate; hence, further high-quality randomized clinical trials are required. Evidence supports use of aligners as an alternate to fixed appliances in patients with mild-to-moderate malocclusion but not in severe cases. Advancement in technology could enhance the accuracy of CAT in delivering planned outcomes.

PROSPERO registration number CRD42021246855.Microplastics (MPs) are small ( 87%) than the denser polymers (PET and PVC 37 to 88.8%) using NaCl, NaI and ZnCl2 solutions. However, the effective flotation of ZnCl2 and NaI solutions is relatively expensive and unsafe to the environment, especially in the context of developing countries. Therefore, considering the efficiency, cost and environmental criteria, NaCl solution was selected. The protocol was then tested by extracting MPs from nine riverine sediment samples from the Red River Delta. Sediments collected from urban rivers were highly polluted by MPs (26,000 MPs items·kg-1 DW) compared to sediments located downstream. Using a NaCl solution was found to be effective in this case study and might also be used in long-term and large-scale MP monitoring programmes in Vietnam.
To explore the associated ocular parameters with lenticular myopia and assess the correlation between lens density and myopic shift.
This retrospective cross-sectional study enrolled 50 patients with lenticular high myopia as the study group and 85 cases as the validation group. Lens density was obtained through swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT, IOLMaster 700) and measured by Image J software. Linear regression analysis and correlation analysis were applied to study the association between lenticular myopia and ocular variables. Receiver operating characteristic curves and calibration charts were plotted for nuclear density (ND) in identifying lenticular high myopia.
Both ND and lens thickness were discovered to be associated with spherical equivalent refraction and lens power (p < 0.05); yet, only ND was significantly correlated with lenticular myopia, as the difference of nuclear density (ND
) between the lenticular myopic eye and the fellow eye was significantly correlated with the interocular difference of spherical equivalent refraction (SER
, r = - 0.752, p < 0.001) and the interocular difference of lens power (LP
, r = 0.834, p < 0.001). The ND is a good metric for diagnosing lenticular high myopia, with the area under curve (AUC) being 0.898 (0.821-0.949) and the cut-off value being 98.88 pixel units. The accuracy of the cut-off value in the validation group was 82.35%.

Yet, recent long-term recording experiments have revealed that single-neuron representations continuously change over time, contravening the classical assumption that learned features remain static. How do unstable neural codes support robust perception, memories, and actions? Here, we review recent experimental evidence for such representational drift across brain areas, as well as dissections of its functional characteristics and underlying mechanisms. We emphasize theoretical proposals for how drift need not only be a form of noise for which the brain must compensate. Rather, it can emerge from computationally beneficial mechanisms in hierarchical networks performing robust probabilistic computations.
Proviral integration site for Moloney murine leukemia virus (PIMs) are proto-oncogenes encoding serine/threonine kinases that phosphorylate a variety of substrates involved in the regulation of cellular processes. Elevated expression of PIM-1 has been associated with poor prognosis in several types of cancer. There are no studies that have analyzed the response to radiotherapy in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) according to the expression of PIM-1. The aim of our study was to analyze the relationship between the transcriptional expression of PIM-1 and local response to radiotherapy in HNSCC patients.
We determined the transcriptional expression of PIM-1 in 135 HNSCC patients treated with radiotherapy, including patients treated with chemoradiotherapy (n = 65) and bioradiotherapy (n = 15).
During the follow-up, 48 patients (35.6%) had a local recurrence of the tumor. Patients with local recurrence had a higher level of PIM-1 expression than those who achieved local control of the disease (P = 0.017). Five-year local recurrence-free survival for patients with a high expression of PIM-1 (n = 43) was 44.6% (95% CI 29.2-60.0%), and for patients with low expression (n = 92) it was 71.9% (95% CI 62.5-81.3%) (P = 0.007). According to the results of multivariate analysis, patients with a high PIM-1 expression had a 2.2-fold increased risk of local recurrence (95% CI 1.22-4.10, P = 0.009).

The International Dysphagia Diet Standardization Initiative (IDDSI) provides a framework for terminology, definitions and testing of TMDs. This observational mixed-method study used the consolidated framework for implementation research (CFIR) to establish the barriers and enablers to IDDSI adoption in aged-care facilities (ACFs). Five New Zealand ACFs who had adopted IDDSI > 12 months previously were recruited. Evaluation tools were developed based on CFIR constructs, integrating data from (i) mealtime observations; (ii) manager interviews and (iii) staff (nursing, carers and kitchen) self-administrated surveys. All facility and kitchen managers were IDDSI aware and had access to online resources. Three sites had changed to commercially compliant products post-IDDSI adoption, which had cost implications. Awareness of IDDSI amongst staff ranged from 5 to 79% and less then 50% of ic, site-specific implementation plan.
Choledochal cyst (CDC) excision with bilio-enteric anastomosis has been reported by a laparoscopic approach. With the advent of robotic surgery, it is likely to simplify the performance of such complex procedures. Herein, we present our technique of total robotic CDC excision with intra-corporeal Roux-en-Y hepaticojejunostomy (RYHJ).

A 12-mm assistant port was placed in between the camera and the left-sided robotic port. Robotic dissection and excision of extrahepatic part CDC were performed, and subsequently, intra-corporeal robotic RYHJ with jejunojejunostomy was completed. Intra-operatively, indocyanine green dye was used to delineate the biliary anatomy and to check the anastomotic integrity.
All three patients were female with a median age of 21 (18-34) years. Two patients had type IVa, and one had a mixed variant of type I(C) with type VI. The median operative time was 420 min, whereas docking and console time was 22 (20-25) min and 400 (360-450) min, respectively. The median blood loss and length of hospital stay were 50 (50-100) ml and 6 (5-6) days, respectively. One patient has mild acute pancreatitis in the post-operative period, which was managed conservatively.

Oncology patients undergoing positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) occasionally show discrete adrenal [18F]-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake without an associated nodule on CT, leaving the clinician uncertain about the need to proceed with biopsy or surgical referral. This study aimed to identify the prevalence of this radiological finding and to evaluate the effectiveness of FDG uptake values in risk stratification for adrenal metastasis.
From 2014 to 2015, oncology patients who underwent FDG-PET/CT and demonstrated elevated FDG uptake in the adrenal gland without discrete nodularity on cross-sectional imaging were included in a retrospective cohort analysis. Clinical records and FDG-PET/CT scans were reviewed for clinicopathological data, follow-up data, SUVmax (highest SUV of either adrenal gland), and SUVratio (SUVmax/background liver uptake). A receiver operating characteristic analysis was conducted to evaluate the associations between SUV values and the progression to adrenal mettive uptake values may be useful in selecting those not at risk of developing adrenal metastatic disease.
