Checking out the influence associated with outlying wellness method components in physician burnout: a new mixed-methods study inside Northern Nova scotia.
Subjective well-being measures are gaining recognition as important determinants of health outcomes. This paper examines whether life satisfaction matters for healthcare usage in the older population and, if so, what might help explain this relationship. To that end, we develop a mediation framework and test whether lifestyle choices and social capital are pathways through which life satisfaction at baseline influences subsequent healthcare usage. Using Heckman's approach to correct for sample selection bias, we find that those high in life satisfaction may need less outpatient care. We also show that this effect is explained by increased physical activity.
Taxes on sugar-sweetened beverages (SSB) are increasingly being implemented as public health interventions to limit the consumption of sugar and reduce associated health risks. In July 2017, India imposed a new tax rate on aerated (carbonated) drinks as part of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) reform. This study investigates the post-GST changes in the purchase of aerated drinks in urban India.

An interrupted time series analysis was conducted on state-level monthly take-home purchases of aerated drinks in urban India from January 2013 to June 2018. We assessed changes in the year-on-year growth rate (i.e. percentage change) in aerated drink purchases with controls for contextual variables.

We found no evidence of a reduction in state-level monthly take-home aerated drink purchases in urban India following the implementation of GST. Further analysis showed that the year-on-year growth rate in aerated drink purchases increased slightly (0.1 percentage point per month, 95%CI=0.018, 0.181) after the implemiven by prices not changing sufficiently. Furthermore, the impact of GST reform on industry practice (reformulation, marketing) and individual behaviour choices (substitution) is unknown and warrants further investigation to understand how such taxes could be implemented to deliver public health benefits.Structural racism, which is embedded in past and present operations of the U.S. housing market, is a fundamental cause of racial health inequities. We conducted an ecologic study to 1) examine historic redlining in relation to current neighborhood lending discrimination and three key indicators of societal health (mental health, physical health, and infant mortality rate (IMR)) and 2) investigate sustained lending disinvestment as a determinant of current neighborhood health in one of the most hypersegregated metropolitan areas in the United States, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. We calculated weighted historic redlining scores from the proportion of 1930s Home Owners' Loan Corporation residential security grades contained within 2010 census tract boundaries. We combined two lending indicators from 2018 Home Mortgage Disclosure Act data to capture current neighborhood lending discrimination low lending occurrence and high cost loans (measured via loan rate spread). Using historic redlining score and current lending diersegregated neighborhoods. We endorse equity focused policies that dismantle and repair the ways racism is entrenched in America's social fabric.Bridging social capital is defined as the connections between individuals who are dissimilar with respect to socioeconomic status and other characteristics. We previously identified an important gap in the literature related to its measurement. We developed and validated a scale to measure bridging social capital to be used in Latinx immigrant populations living in the U.S using Classical Test Theory. The structure of the questionnaire comprised the following sub-scales Socializing in the work place (5 items); Participation in community activities (16 items); Socializing in community activities (5 items); Contact with similar/different people (7 items); Assistance (17 items); Trust of institutions, corporations and other people (14 items); and Trust of intimate people (3 items). Although basic psychometric validation was performed on our original instrument (e.g., content and construct validity, internal consistency reliability), modern testing theory recommends a more comprehensive set of evaluations, includs as there was lack of support for unidimensionality or fit to the Rasch model. The Bridging Social Capital Questionnaire v2 has 61 items (compared to 67 in version 1). Our questionnaire may be suitable for adaptation to other immigrant groups in different countries.Addressing both the under-and over-nutritional status of women is an eminent challenge for developing countries like Nepal. This paper examined a critical analysis of factors associated with various forms of malnutrition using Bayesian geoadditive quantile regression approach and assessed spatial variations of malnutrition among Nepalese women using Asian cut-off values. Data drawn from the 2016 Nepal Demographic and Health Survey was utilized to assess the spatial distributions of underweight, overweight and obesity at the provincial level. Spatial and nonlinear components were estimated using Markov random fields and Bayesian P-splines, respectively. The analysis of 4,338 women confirmed that women living in extremely urbanized areas and in Province 1, Province 3, and Province 4 were more likely to be overweight/obese. Similarly, the likelihood of being underweight was prominently high among women residing in rural municipality and women residing in Province 2 and Province 7. Women from the richest and richer quintiles, and with primary education were more likely to be obese. Furthermore, currently-working women and women having access to protected water source were less likely to be obese while improved toilet and access to electricity facility were associated with obesity. Women with access to newspaper and radio were less prone to obesity. Inconsistent distribution of under- and over-nutrition existed in Nepal, given that the high prevalence of overweight/obesity among women living in metropolitan and undernutrition among rural women. Specific intervention measures, addressing location-specific nutrition issues are urgent. Rigorous implementation of strategies incorporated in the national nutrition plan is called for to curb the burden of overweight/obesity. Involving mass media to promote healthier lifestyle and nutritious food could be advantageous at the population level, especially in rural municipalities.
India's adolescent health policy aims to improve sexual and reproductive health, especially amongst the most vulnerable. There is limited evidence on how gender influences treatment-seeking patterns amongst unmarried adolescents.

We analyzed data from 11,651 unmarried adolescent boys and girls aged 15-19 from a cross-sectional survey conducted in two large states of India. We conducted sex-disaggregated analyses to estimate the prevalence of symptoms of genital infections and compare treatment-seeking patterns. We identified correlates through multivariable regression and used a conceptual framework to explore structural, household, social and individual factors that influence gender inequities in adolescent sexual and reproductive health.

One in five unmarried adolescents reported symptoms of genital infections, such as burning or discharge, in the past three months. Factors associated with reporting symptoms varied between boys and girls, except for a common correlation with symptoms of depression. At access to resources.
Stark sex differentials in factors associated with symptoms and in treatment-seeking illustrate how structural gender inequities, such as access to economic resources and education, influence sexual and reproductive health amongst adolescents. Along with health system interventions, addressing gender inequities calls for strategies to strengthen parental engagement, social support and girls' access to resources. The four rounds of National Family Health Survey (NFHS) conducted during 1992-93, 1998-99, 2005-06 and 2015-16 is main source to track the health and development related indicators including nutritional status of children at national and state level in India. Except NFHS-4, first three rounds of NFHS were unable to provides district-level estimates of childhood stunting due to the insufficient sample sizes. The small area estimation (SAE) techniques offer a viable solution to overcome the problem of small sample size. Therefore, this study uses SAE techniques to derive district level prevalence of childhood stunting corresponding to NFHS-2 (1998-99). Study further estimated GIS maps, univariate Local indicator of spatial autocorrelation (LISA) and Moran's I to understand the trend in district level childhood stunting between NFHS-2 and NFHS-4. Estimates obtained by SAE techniques suggest that prevalence of childhood stunting ranges from 20.7% (95% CI 18.8-22.7) in South Goa district of Goa to 64.4% (95%CI 63.1-65.7) in Dhaulpur district of Rajasthan during 1998-99. The diagnostic measures used to validate the reliability of estimates obtained by SAE techniques indicate that the model-based estimates are reliable and representative at district level. Results of geospatial analysis indicates substantial reduction in childhood stunting between 1998 and 2016. Out of 640 district, about 81 district experience reduction of more than 50%. At the same time 60 district experience less than 10% of reduction between 1998 and 2016. Spatial clustering of childhood stunting remains same over the study period except few additional cluster in Maharashtra, Andhra and Meghalaya in 2016. The district level estimates obtained from this study might be helpful in framing decentralized policies and implementation of vertical programs to enhance the efficacy of various nutrition interventions in priority districts of the country.
