Although it is crucial to ensure a sufficient surgical margin for a malignant neoplasm, we sometimes struggle to achieve this goal using a minimally invasive approach because it is difficult to palpate the tumor adequately via the small skin incision. To overcome this issue, we adopted a preoperative simulation method for a patient undergoing a right upper lobe and a posterior segmentectomy of the lower lobe (extended lobectomy) and obtained successful results. The discrepancy between the virtual and the actual surgical margins was 5 mm.
Veterinarians die by suicide at elevated rates. Higher levels of capability for suicide among veterinarians, including access to lethal medications, may account for this discrepancy. This study aimed to determine the importance of accessibility of lethal medications in veterinary workplaces in the relationship between recent suicidal ideation and perceived likelihood of making a future suicide attempt.
Participants identifying with one or more groups at high-risk for suicide (e.g., veterinarians, firearm owners) were recruited via social media to complete online self-report questionnaires examining demographic, work-related, and suicide-related risk factors. The sample of veterinarians (
= 310) was primarily female, White, and worked in small animal practices.

The polyketide fragment, monic acid, is esterified by a 9-hydroxynonanoic acid (9HN) side chain which is essential for biological activity. The ester side chain assembly is initialised from a 3-hydroxypropionate (3HP) starter unit attached to the acyl carrier protein (ACP) MacpD, but the fate of this species is unknown. Herein we report the application of NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, chemical probes and in vitro assays to establish the remaining steps of 9HN biosynthesis. These investigations reveal a complex interplay between a novel iterative or "stuttering" KS-AT didomain (MmpF), the multidomain module MmpB and multiple ACPs. This work has important implications for understanding the late-stage biosynthetic steps of mupirocin and will be important for future engineering of related trans-AT biosynthetic pathways (e.g. thiomarinol).Depression is one of the disorders involving mental health that most affects the population worldwide. Considering the available pharmacological therapies for the treatment of depression are ineffective in most patients, the search for new alternatives is crucial. In line with this, we investigated the phenolic profile, antidepressant-like, and antioxidant effects triggered by the administration of aqueous extracts from Psidium guajava L. (GUA), Psidium cattleianum Sw. (CAT), and Psidium guineense Sabine (GUI) leaves in mice. Our results show that quercetin is the major compound of GUA and GUI, and o-coumaric acid in CAT extracts. The acute and subchronic administrations of the three plant extracts exerted an antidepressant-like effect in mice exposed to the tail suspension test, without changes on locomotor performance evaluated by the open field test. Furthermore, the GUI and CAT decreased oxidative stress markers, mainly lipid peroxidation and nitrites in the hippocampus, prefrontal cortex, liver, and plasma. Notably, GUA and CAT increased non-protein thiols in all tissues. Therefore, the Psidium extracts demonstrated an antidepressant-like effect in mice, and the antioxidant capacity of the extracts seems to underlie the behavioral effect.High-level ab initio calculations were performed to investigate the kinetics of the important initial steps of 2-methyl-2-butanol (2M2B) oxidation. Hydrogen-atom abstraction reactions by hydroxyl (˙OH) radicals, dehydration reactions of 2M2B molecules, and unimolecular isomerization and decomposition reactions of 2M2B radicals produced by H-atom abstraction were all included in this work. The potential energy surfaces were characterized at the QCISD(T)/CBS//M06-2X/6-311++G(d,p) level of theory. Variational transition state theory (VTST) was employed to calculate the rate coefficients for the H-atom abstraction reactions. It is interesting to note that the hydrogen bond formed in the transition state (TS) in H-atom abstraction reactions, leading to a ring-shaped structure, has a large influence on the electronic energy barriers and rotational-vibrational properties of the TS and thus the rate coefficients. For comparison, rate coefficient calculations were carried out for the same reaction channel by employing different types of TS structures separately, with or without hydrogen bonds. For all the unimolecular reactions studied here, pressure-dependent rate coefficients were obtained through Rice-Ramsperger-Kassel-Marcus/master equation (RRKM/ME) calculations at pressures of 0.01-100 atm. In addition, thermochemical properties at temperatures from 300 to 3000 K for all the species in the title reactions were calculated, which were found to be in good agreement with literature data. Participants Our sample of 8,689 students from 15 U.S. institutions was drawn from a larger longitudinal investigation of well-being and academic success. Methods Students completed self-reported measures of perfectionism, demographics, and psychosocial adjustment in spring 2016. GPA was obtained from registrars in fall 2016. Results A substantial proportion of students were classified as discordant perfectionists (26.1% of undergraduates, 18.8% of graduate students) with Asian students, men, first-generation undergraduates, and international students overrepresented. Discordant perfectionism was associated with markedly worse outcomes than the other typologies, with the lowest average GPA, subjective well-being, coping self-efficacy, and social connectedness. Conclusions Discordant perfectionism merits further consideration as a risk factor for postsecondary students.Objective The study aimed to assess anxiety and fear of COVID-19 among home-staying Bangladeshi students. Participants A total of 3997 university students across Bangladesh participated in the study. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted using the generalized anxiety disorder scale and the fear of COVID-19 scale to measure anxiety and fear, respectively. Results 40.11% of participants had anxiety. Fear of death by COVID-19 (β1'=4.45; 95% CI 3.99-4.90) and perceiving COVID-19-like symptoms as having COVID-19 (β1'=2.47; 95% CI 1.76-3.18) were associated with higher fear. Exposure to COVID-19 news on social media was a predictor of fear and anxiety. Furthermore, the severe educational loss was associated with fear (β1'=2.88; 95% CI 2.25-3.50) and anxiety (β2'=1.91; 95% CI 1.41 to 2.41). Physical exercise and recreational activities were protective factors for fear and anxiety. Conclusion The study reports a higher level of psychological difficulties among students during the COVID-19 pandemic which needs further longitudinal exploration to design appropriate interventions.Control of self-propelled particles is central to the development of many microrobotic technologies, from dynamically reconfigurable materials to advanced lab-on-a-chip systems. However, there are few physical principles by which particle trajectories can be specified and can be used to generate a wide range of behaviors. Within the field of ray optics, a single principle for controlling the trajectory of light─Snell's law─yields an intuitive framework for engineering a broad range of devices, from microscopes to cameras and telescopes. Here we show that the motion of self-propelled particles gliding across a resistance discontinuity is governed by a variant of Snell's law, and develop a corresponding ray optics for gliders. Just as the ratio of refractive indexes sets the path of a light ray, the ratio of resistance coefficients is shown to determine the trajectories of gliders. The magnitude of refraction depends on the glider's shape, in particular its aspect ratio, which serves as an analogue to the wavelength of light. This enables the demixing of a polymorphic, many-shaped, beam of gliders into distinct monomorphic, single-shaped, beams through a friction prism. In turn, beams of monomorphic gliders can be focused by spherical and gradient friction lenses. Alternatively, the critical angle for total internal reflection can be used to create shape-selective glider traps. Overall our work suggests that furthering the analogy between light and microscopic gliders may be used for sorting, concentrating, and analyzing self-propelled particles.Coping with the death of a newborn infant requires training and reflection regarding the end-of-life decision-making process, communication with the family, and the care to be provided. In this study, the binomial tree-based scan statistic was applied sequentially to detect adverse events in Days 1-28 compared with Days 29-56 after recombinant herpes zoster (RZV) vaccination, with 5 looks at the data and formal adjustment for the repeated analyses over time. IBM Marketscan data on commercially insured persons 50+ years of age receiving RZV during January 1, 2018-May 5, 2020 were used. With 999,876 doses of RZV included, statistically significant signals were detected only for unspecified adverse effects/complications following immunization, with attributable risks as low as 2 excess cases per 100,000 vaccinations. Ninety percent of cases in the signals occurred in the week after vaccination and, based on previous studies, likely represent non-serious events like fever, fatigue, and headache. Strengths of our study include its untargeted nature, self-controlled design, and formal adjustment for repeated testing.
