Improving the dental-hygienist-related factors is necessary to encourage people to visit dentists for regular check-ups.Although pulmonary events are considered to be frequently associated with malignant haemopathies, they have been sparsely studied in the specific context of myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS). We aimed to describe their different types, their relative proportions and their relative effects on overall survival (OS). We conducted a multicentre retrospective cohort study. Patients with MDS (diagnosed according to the 2016 WHO classification) and pulmonary events were included. The inclusion period was 1 January 2007 to 31 December 2017 and patients were monitored until August 2019. Fifty-five hospitalized patients were included in the analysis. They had 113 separate pulmonary events. Thirteen patients (23.6%) had a systemic autoimmune disease associated with MDS. Median age at diagnosis of MDS was 77 years. Median time to onset of pulmonary events was 13 months. Pulmonary events comprised 70 infectious diseases (62%); 27 interstitial lung diseases (23.9%), including 13 non-specific interstitial pneumonias and seven secondary organizing pneumonias or respiratory bronchiolitis-interstitial lung diseases; 10 pleural effusions (8.8%), including four cases of chronic organizing pleuritis with exudative effusion; and six pulmonary hypertensions (5.3%). The median OS of the cohort was 29 months after MDS diagnosis but OS was only 10 months after a pulmonary event. The OS was similar to that of the general myelodysplastic population. However, the occurrence of a pulmonary event appeared to be either an accelerating factor of death or an indicator for the worsening of the underlying MDS in our study. More than a third of pulmonary events were non-infectious and could be systemic manifestations of MDS.(1) Background The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has caused disruptions to what people eat, but the pandemic's impact on diet varies between individuals. The goal of our study was to test whether pandemic-related stress was associated with food intake, and whether relationships between stress and intake were modified by appetitive and cognitive traits. (2) Methods We cross-sectionally surveyed 428 adults to examine current intake frequency of various food types (sweets/desserts, savory snacks, fast food, fruits, and vegetables), changes to food intake during the pandemic, emotional overeating (EOE), cognitive flexibility (CF), and COVID-19-related stress. Models tested associations of stress, EOE, and CF with food intake frequency and changes to intake. (3) Results Models demonstrated that the positive relationship between stress and intake of sweets/desserts was stronger with higher EOE, while the positive relationship between stress and intake of chips/savory snacks was weaker with higher CF. Higher EOE was associated with greater risk of increased intake of palatable foods. (4) Conclusions Findings suggest that emotional overeating may escalate stress-associated intake of high-sugar foods, and cognitive flexibility may attenuate stress-associated intake of high-fat foods. Differences in appetitive and cognitive traits may explain changes to and variability in food intake during COVID-19, and efforts to decrease emotional overeating and encourage cognitive flexibility could help lessen the effect of COVID-19-related stress on energy dense food intake.The dietary guidelines as well as the organizations that establish the recommendations are not homogeneous across regions of the world. The updated Mediterranean pyramid as well as MyPlate and the Pyramids utilized in South Africa, Japan, and Argentina are discussed in this commentary.Caffeic and dihydrocaffeic acid are relevant microbial catabolites, being described as products from the degradation of different phenolic compounds i.e., hydroxycinnamoyl derivatives, anthocyanins or flavonols. Furthermore, caffeic acid is found both in free and esterified forms in many fruits and in high concentrations in coffee. These phenolic acids may be responsible for a part of the bioactivity associated with the intake of phenolic compounds. With the aim of progressing in the knowledge of the health effects and mechanisms of action of dietary phenolics, the model nematode Caenorhabditis elegans has been used to evaluate the influence of caffeic and dihydrocaffeic acids on lifespan and the oxidative stress resistance. This Drp1 hypo-phosphorylation was attributed to SIRT1-mediated activation of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), which in turn induced a decrease in cellular levels of cyclic AMP (cAMP) and protein kinase A (PKA) activity, a kinase targeting S637 of Drp1. Furthermore, in NAM-treated cells, cytosolic Ca2+ was highly maintained; and, as a consequence, activity of calcineurin, a Drp1-dephosphorylating phosphatase, is expected to be elevated.
