vulpes in foxes (64%), Babesia sp. type A closely related to B. vulpes, in badgers (58%) and Babesia sp. in wild cats (20%). Moreover, L. infantum infection was found in foxes (29%), beech martens (13%), badgers (8%) and 1/3 Egyptian mongooses. We also detected Cytauxzoon sp. in a wild cat and the first Sarcocystis sp. in a genet. This study provided evidence of increased risk of L. infantum infection in wildlife animals co-infected with Babesia spp. or Hepatozoon spp. and indicated that these infections are widespread in wild carnivores from Spanish Mediterranean ecosystems.Therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) is an apheresis procedure in which plasma is separated from the blood cellular components ex vivo, allocated, and replaced with another plasma or a plasma-replacing fluid. This study aimed to define the rate of complications and determine TPE distribution in various neurological diseases. Our study is a retrospective analysis of neurologic diseases requiring TPE between 2008 and 2019 that were selected using the medical records of neurology departments and apheresis units database. We performed 1459 TPE procedures on 207 patients between 2008 and 2019. TPE Procedure is most frequently applied in patients with Myasthenia-Gravis syndrome (34.7%). The complication ratio was 1.6% from a total of 1459 TPE procedures. The most commonly specified adverse event was allergic reactions 11 (5.3%), followed by hypotension 6 (2.9%). TPE was safe and tolerable, with manageable complications in experienced hands.Ajuba is a multiple LIM domain-containing protein and functions as a transcriptional coregulator to modulate many gene expressions in various cellular processes. Here, we describe that the LIM domain of Ajuba interacts with Twist, and the Twist box is a pivotal motif for the interaction. Biologically, Ajuba enhances transcription of target gene N-cadherin as an obligate coactivator of Twist. The enhancement is achieved by binding to the E-box element within N-cadherin promoter as revealed by luciferase reporter and chromatin immunoprecipitation assays. Mechanistic investigation demonstrates that Ajuba recruits CBP and Twist to form a ternary complex at the Twist target promoter region and concomitantly enhances histone acetylation at these sites. These findings identify that Twist is a new interacting protein of Ajuba and Ajuba/Twist/CBP ternary complex may be a potential treatment strategy for Twist-related tumour metastasis.
Mean flow index (Mxa) for evaluating dynamic cerebral autoregulation is derived using varying approaches for calculation, which may explain that the reliability ranges from poor to excellent. The comparability, repeatability, stability, and internal consistency of approaches have not previously been assessed.

We included 60 recordings from resting healthy volunteers and calculated Mxa using four different approaches three without overlapping calculations, using intervals for averaging wave-form data (blocks) of 3, 6, and 10s, and correlation periods (epochs) of 60, 240, and 300s (3-60-F, 6-240-F, and 10-300-F); and one using 10-second blocks, 300s epochs, and overlaps of 60s (10-300-60). The comparability between the approaches was assessed using Student's t test, intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC), and Bland-Altman plot.

Overall, 3-60-F resulted in a higher Mxa than the other indices (p<0.001, for all). The reliability when comparing all the approaches ranged from moderate to good (ICC 0.68; 95%CI 0.59-0.84), which was primarily due to similarities between 10-300-F and 10-300-60 (ICC 0.94; 95%CI 0.86-0.98). The reliability when comparing the first and last half was poor for 10-300-F and ranged from poor to moderate for the other approaches. Additional random artifacts resulted in poor reliability for 10-300-F, while the other approaches were more stable.

Mxa in general has a low sensitivity to artifacts, but otherwise seems highly dependent on the approach, with a repeatability that is moderate at best. The varying accuracy and precision renders Mxa unreliable for classifying impaired cerebral autoregulation when using healthy adults for comparison.

In this study, we aimed to investigate diagnostic biomarkers and its role in glioma. Weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) and Cytoscape software were used to screen the marker genes in glioma. RT-qPCR and Western blotting methods were performed to determine the expression of PAICS, ERCC1 and XPA genes in glioma tissues. Expression level of PAICS in different grades of glioma was examined by immunohistochemistry. CCK8 and Colony formation assays were used to detect cell proliferation. Cell adhesion assay was used to detect adhesion ability. Wound healing and transwell tests were used to detect cell migration ability. Flow cytometry was used to detect cell cycle and apoptosis. According to the predicted co-expression network, we identified the hub gene PAICS. click here Furthermore, we observed that PAICS expression level was up-regulated in glioma tissues compared with normal tissues, and the expression level was correlated with the grade of glioma. Moreover, we found PAICS can promote glioma cells proliferation and migration in vitro. Flow cytometry results showed that si-PAICS cells were stalled at the G1 phase compared with the si-NC cells and knocking down PAICS expression can increase apoptotic rate. PAICS can regulate the mRNA and protein levels of nucleotide excision repair pathway core genes ERCC1 and XPA. l-aspartic acid can affect the expression of PAICS and then inhibit glioma cell proliferation. Our results indicated that PAICS can promote glioma proliferation and migration. PAICS may act as a potential diagnostic marker and a therapeutic target for glioma.Well-designed population-based seroepidemiologic studies can be used to refine estimates of infection severity and transmission, and are therefore an important component of epidemic surveillance. However, the interpretation of the results of seroepidemiologic studies for SARS-CoV-2 has been hampered to date principally by heterogeneity in the quality of the reporting of the results of the study and a lack of standardized methods and reporting. link2 We provide here the ROSES-S Reporting of Seroepidemiologic studies-SARS-CoV-2. This is an updated checklist of 22 items that should be included in the reporting of all SARS-CoV-2 seroepidemiologic studies, irrespective of study design.John Paul Richard Thomas is among the living herpetologists to have described the greatest number of new species of amphibians and reptiles, and his contributions to the herpetology of the West Indies, particularly the Greater Antilles, have been exceptional. His academic career followed an unusual path, having established a strong reputation and described 50 new taxa prior to beginning his doctoral studies. His career was strongly influenced by Albert Schwartz and later was characterized by extensive and fruitful collaboration with S. Blair Hedges. Thomas' contributions to the study of blind snakes have been noteworthy. In addition to describing 28 species of scolecophidians he has been a keen observer of blind snake morphology and his 1976 dissertation remains a valuable source of osteological data. We outline some of the highlights of the career of Richard Thomas and provide a bibliography of his scientific works and a listing of the 108 taxa of amphibians and reptiles described by him. This work aimed to assess the biomechanics, using the finite element method (FEM), of traditional titanium Morse taper (MT) dental implants compared to one-piece implants composed of zirconia, polyetheretherketone (PEEK), carbon fiber-reinforced PEEK (CFR-PEEK), or glass fiber-reinforced PEEK (GFR-PEEK). MT and one-piece dental implants were modeled within a mandibular bone section and loaded on an oblique force using FEM. A MT implant system involving a Ti6Al4V abutment and a cp-Ti grade IV implant was compared to one-piece implants composed of cp-Ti grade IV, zirconia (3Y-TZP), PEEK, CFR-PEEK, or GFR-PEEK. Stress on bone and implants was computed and analyzed while bone remodeling prediction was evaluated considering equivalent strain. In comparison to one-piece implants, the traditional MT implant revealed higher stress peak (112 MPa). The maximum stresses on the one-piece implants reached ~80 MPa, regardless their chemical composition. MT implant induced lower bone stimulus, although excessive bone strain was recorded for PEEK implants. Balanced strain levels were noticed for reinforced PEEK implants of which CFR-PEEK one-piece implants showed proper biomechanical behavior. Balanced strain levels might induce bone remodeling at the peri-implant region while maintaining low risks of mechanical failures. However, the strength of the PEEK-based composite materials is still low for long-term clinical performance.Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a common cancer with increasing incidence and mortality in female. Increasing studies have revealed that long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are novel molecules regulating tumors. Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1234 (LINC01234) has been demonstrated to function as an oncogene in several tumors. link3 However, the role of LINC01234 in TNBC remains unelucidated. Herein, RT-qPCR showed that LINC01234 expression was upregulated in both TNBC tissues and cell lines. Functionally, knockdown of LINC01234 suppressed proliferation, migration, invasion, epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) process, and promoted apoptosis in TNBC cells. Xenograft mouse models revealed that LINC01234 downregulation inhibited TNBC tumor growth in vivo. Furthermore, LINC01234 was transcriptionally elevated by Sp1 transcription factor (SP1) in TNBC cells. Mechanistically, LINC01234 interacted with miR-525-5p and miR-525-5p targeted MEIS2. Rescue assays manifested that MEIS2 overexpression rescued the cellular processes inhibited by silenced LINC01234. Moreover, we validated that LINC01234 regulated the activation of the Wnt pathway through modulating MEIS2 in TNBC cells. In conclusion, LINC01234 aggravated TNBC cell growth, migration, invasion and EMT by modulating the miR-525-5p/MEIS2 axis and activating the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway.Zinc oxide is one of the most widely studied semiconductor metal oxides, which predominantly crystallizes as hexagonal wurtzite and often cubic zinc-blende phases. Here we report the transformation of the highly stable wurtzite ZnO to a new triclinic phase NZO-2 by using metformin as a template during post-synthesis hydrothermal treatment. This crystalline phase of the material NZO-2 has been identified through the refinement of the powder XRD data. NZO-2 possesses porous rod like particle morphology consisting of the self-assembly of 3-7 nm size spherical nanoparticles and interparticle nanoscopic voids spaces. NZO-2 has been surface phosphorylated and the resulting material displayed good proton conductivity. Further, NZO-2 displayed ultra-low band gap of 1.74 eV, thereby responsible for red emission under high energy laser excitation and this may open new opportunities in optoelectronic application of ZnO.
