26 and OR = 5.9, respectively), showed a significantly higher occurrence of smoking. There is a high use of tobacco among dental students, which is particularly high in Italian dental students. Students realizes the positive perception of their own tobacco counsellor role in a dental setting. Dental students should be role models to their peers and patients.Indwelling urinary catheters are common in health care settings and can lead to catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI). Long-term catheterization causes polymicrobial colonization of the catheter and urine, for which the clinical significance is poorly understood. Through prospective assessment of catheter urine colonization, we identified Enterococcus faecalis and Proteus mirabilis as the most prevalent and persistent co-colonizers. Clinical isolates of both species successfully co-colonized in a murine model of CAUTI, and they were observed to co-localize on catheter biofilms during infection. We further demonstrate that P. mirabilis preferentially adheres to E. faecalis during biofilm formation, and that contact-dependent interactions between E. faecalis and P. mirabilis facilitate establishment of a robust biofilm architecture that enhances antimicrobial resistance for both species. E. faecalis may therefore act as a pioneer species on urinary catheters, establishing an ideal surface for persistent colonization by more traditional pathogens such as P. mirabilis.VEGF(R)-targeted therapies are associated with an increased risk of thromboembolism and bleeding, which might be pronounced in patients with increased cardiovascular risk. Nevertheless, sorafenib represents an important treatment option in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). We retrospectively investigated the risk of arterial/venous thromboembolic and bleeding events in 252 patients treated with sorafenib for HCC between 05/2006 and 03/2020 at the Medical University of Vienna. Cardiovascular risk was assessed using Framingham score. Eight patients (3.2%) experienced 11 arterial/venous thromboembolic events. Only two patients (0.8%) developed arterial thromboembolism even though cardiovascular risk was low, intermediate, and high in 15 (8.7%), 104 (60%), and 54 (31.2%) of 173 assessable patients. Median overall survival (OS) was shorter in the high risk vs. low/intermediate risk group 7.4 (95% CI 3.4-11.3) vs. 10.0 (95% CI 6.8-13.2 months) and independently associated with OS in multivariable analysis HR 1.53 (95% CI 1.07-2.19; p = 0.019). Forty-eight (19%) patients experienced a bleeding, most commonly gastrointestinal bleeding (14%) followed by epistaxis (4.7%). Advanced liver dysfunction was not associated with an increased incidence of bleeding/venous thromboembolism. Sorafenib represents a safe treatment option even in patients with increased cardiovascular risk. Bleeding complications were comparable with previous reports, even though patients with more advanced liver disease were included. There is significant public interest in the Australian live animal export industry and a need to develop a program that can measure and monitor animal welfare throughout the supply chain. An online survey of stakeholder opinions of this industry and animal welfare measures was carried out in 2015 with 921 respondents 30% from the public who identified as animal welfare advocates (AWAs); 44% from the public who did not identify as AWAs (general public; GP); 26% live export industry (LEI) workers. AWA and GP respondents expressed greater concern than LEI respondents for animal welfare throughout the supply chain but had less concern for animals at Australian feedlots than in other parts of the supply chain. The majority of AWA and GP respondents believed data collected on animal welfare should be made public and should be collected by independent welfare officers and used to regulate the industry and impose penalties for poor welfare. LEI workers believed that data should be confidential, collected by LEI workers and used by the industry to self-regulate. AWA and GP respondents rated the importance and practicality of a number of welfare indicators greater than LEI workers, while respondents shared an analogous view of the importance and practicality of these indicators. Results can be used to develop welfare assessments that ensure a better understanding between industry members and those not in the industry, while facilitating welfare improvements and promoting greater transparency for the live export industry.Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a life-threatening disease with risk of recurrence. Oral anticoagulation (OAC) with vitamin K antagonists (VKA) is effective to prevent thromboembolic recurrence. We aimed to investigate the quality of OAC of VTE patients in regular medical care (RMC) compared to a telemedicine-based coagulation service (CS). The thrombEVAL study (NCT01809015) is a prospective, multi-center study to investigate OAC treatment (recruitment January 2011-March 2013). Patients were evaluated using clinical visits, computer-assisted personal interviews, self-reported data and laboratory measurements according to standard operating procedures. Overall, 360 patients with VTE from RMC and 254 from CS were included. Time in therapeutic range (TTR) was higher in CS compared to RMC (76.9% (interquartile range [IQR] 63.2-87.1%) vs. 69.5% (52.3-85.6%), p less then 0.001). Revumenib order Crude rate of thromboembolic events (rate ratio [RR] 11.33 (95% confidence interval [CI] 1.85-465.26), p = 0.0015), clinically relevant oved international ratio (INR) monitoring.Spectral reconstruction from RGB or spectral super-resolution (SSR) offers a cheap alternative to otherwise costly and more complex spectral imaging devices. In recent years, deep learning based methods consistently achieved the best reconstruction quality in terms of spectral error metrics. However, there are important properties that are not maintained by deep neural networks. This work is primarily dedicated to scale invariance, also known as brightness invariance or exposure invariance. When RGB signals only differ in their absolute scale, they should lead to identical spectral reconstructions apart from the scaling factor. Scale invariance is an essential property that signal processing must guarantee for a wide range of practical applications. At the moment, scale invariance can only be achieved by relying on a diverse database during network training that covers all possibly occurring signal intensities. In contrast, we propose and evaluate a fundamental approach for deep learning based SSR that holds the property of scale invariance by design and is independent of the training data.
