Path of Exile Item Upgrades


Upgrades to items are a common and essential way to boost the performance of a variety of items in Path of Exile. They can be a good source of additional damage and more AD or even more attaches.

Often times however, upgraded Common and Magic gear is outclassed by Rare-grade gear because of their high requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades are a kind of upgrade that can be used on weapon and armor items. They boost the performance of the item they are connected to. Armor upgrades can be found in the world of the game and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. Alternatively, they can also be salvaged from items that have upgrade components inside them, using an expert or greater salvage kit.

The level of an armor's or weapon's upgrade determines the amount of damage it can take on. A piece of armor upgraded to the highest upgrade level will boost its damage absorption. However, it's important note that this will also increase its weight, which will cause it to be heavier than before.

There are upgrade item of armor upgrade available in the game. Each has a different impact. Some upgrades give armor a greater number of health points while others make it lighter and more powerful. The name of the armor upgrade will tell you the kind of upgrade that an item will receive, as shown below.

A few of the upgrades are also magic or a mix of technology and magic which is identified by an "Magic" or "Hybrid" entry in the table below. Certain upgrades also require fees to use. These are identified as "Charges" entries in the table. upgrade item are continuously updated or never expire depending on the upgrade.

Iron Ore is the cheapest method to upgrade your armor. You can find it by exploring and looting small treasure chests. Titanium is more expensive, however, it is available through smelters in Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Certain upgrades, such as the Reforge or the Hot Potato Books can only be applied to armor pieces of the highest level. These upgrades can provide significant improvement in stats and are a worthwhile cost, especially for single-handed weapons.

The player must be aware, however, that upgrading a piece up to the maximum upgrade level can boost its defense. However, it will also reduce the speed and agility of the piece. For this reason, it is not recommended to upgrade the majority of armor pieces that are higher than +9 since the defensive boost gained is generally not worth the weight and power cost of the upgrades needed.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades let players increase the effectiveness of specific aspects of a weapon. For example an upgrade could improve the damage that is caused by a shotgun's shells or the accuracy of the rifle sniper. Certain weapons come with special upgrades to improve their inherent capabilities. They include Frictionless Materials (improves stability and decreases the chance of overheating of the weapon) and Kinetic Coils (increases the speed of projectiles to cause more damage).

The majority of upgrades to weapons require a whetblade, one of three Power Dices and a different amount Minerals and Erons. These can be obtained by completing Side Quests or killing a certain amount of monsters and bosses.

To level up quicker, players usually prioritize upgrading their weapons. Players should also upgrade the weapons their teammates use to make them stronger. For instance, Shepard should consider upgrading the M92F to unlock the Beretta M93R, which will enhance its effectiveness when paired with biotech specialists such as Grunt and Tali.

Jewels

Jewels are utilized in the sockets of armor and weapons, enhancing a stat and providing secondary effects. Jewelry crafting is a method for making them, in which you combine the gemstone with specific reagents on a table. The higher the level of the jewel the better the secondary effect. These reagents can be found around the world through Treasure Goblins, World Bosses and occasionally by salvaging Legendary gear. You can also buy them from The Jeweler for gold and a Scattered Prism.

The Jeweler can enhance the quality of the gem in stages that range from Crude up to Royal. The stat boosts will vary according to the tier that the jewel is in when it's inserted into weapons, jewelry, or other gear.

All kinds of jewels can be made at the Jeweler and Jeweler's Workshop, with the exception of the rare and legendary gems that require you to be at a certain level to qualify for the privilege of having them. Jewels can be replaced by another jewel without damaging the original. However you can only swap out a jewel in an item of equipment once.

Utilizing more jewels in a move can make it feel more comfortable, and is often done for aesthetic reasons. The jewels also improve performance and create an outer layer that is more durable than metal so that repeated friction from pivots does not cause damage to them.

In addition to the above upgrades, the player can also acquire glyphs for their shields and weapons from a Glyphmaster. They offer a small benefit and can be swapped freely but aren't guaranteed to drop as loot. Glyphs are upgradeable, as jewelry, by visiting the Jeweler for gold and a Scattered Crystal. Glyphs are also removed and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components, such as traits and aegis, are not swappable, and can only be recovered using an Upgrade Extractor or salvaging them using Black Lion Salvage Kit or an Ascended Salvage Tool.

Trinkets

Trinkets are small pieces of equipment that offer a wide range of small but useful advantages to your hero. They are available in the start-up area as loot or personal story rewards. They are also available through vendors and after the completion of road interactions. They can also be made by jewelers, and found or purchased on the Trading Post.

The first trinket that a player can unlock is the cloak. It gives a small, but useful bonus in speed of movement and evasion. The player can then acquire rings, amulets and necklaces in a similar manner similar to how they obtained weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment has one upgrade slot that accepts either a universal or a jewel upgrade. Universal upgrades provide smaller bonuses and can be used in any kind of equipment however, jewelry cannot be replaced or upgraded and only works with certain kinds of trinkets.

These trinkets grant additional buffs and abilities that are active when the hero isn't engaged in combat. This lets a hero be more efficient when they are not active. It also helps compensate for the absence of excellent team or talent tree slots that are normally filled by the hero's optimal stats.

A good general rule of thumb for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best-in-Slot) items that you aren't planning to replace soon, followed by items with desirable stats, but less important than the iLevel of the item that is being upgraded. This is especially true if you want to upgrade multiple stats on an item. It's best to upgrade just one crucial stat than two less important ones.

Jungle players often upgrade their yellow trinkets to a red one at the beginning of the game. Top and mid players on the other hand, will choose a green or a pink ward, based on the game's matchup. These choices will have a significant impact on the hero's map control abilities.

In addition to the items mentioned above, players can also find other trinkets that form of trophies and rewards throughout the game. These can be obtained by completing certain milestones within the story. For example, completing a chapter’s main quest or defeating the boss.
