Rising tropospheric ozone is a major threat to the crops in the present climate change scenario. To investigate the EDU induced changes in proteins, two varieties of maize, the SHM3031 and the PEHM5, (hereafter S and P respectively) were treated with three EDU applications (0= control, 50 and 200 ppm) (hereafter 0= A, 1 and 2 respectively) (SA, S1, S2, PA, P1, P2 cultivar X treatments). Data on the morpho-physiology, enzymatic activity, and protein expression (for the first time) were collected at the vegetative (V, 45 DAG) and flowering (F, 75 DAG) developmental stages. The tropospheric ozone was around 53 ppb enough to cause phytotoxic effects. Protective effects of EDU were recorded in morpho-physiologically and biochemically. SOD, CAT and APX together with GR performed better under EDU protection in SHM3031 variety than PEHM5. The protein expression patterns in SHM3031 at the vegetative stage (28% proteins were increased, 7% were decreased), and at the flowering stage (17% increased, 8% decreased) were found. In PEHM5, a 14% increase and an 18% decrease (vegetative stage) whereas a 16% increase and a 20% decrease (flowering stage) were recorded in protein expression. Some protein functional categories, for instance, photosynthesis, carbon metabolism, energy metabolism, and defense were influenced by EDU. Rubisco expression was increased in SHM3031 whereas differentially expressed in PEHM5. Germin like protein, APX, SOD, and harpin binding proteins have enhanced defense regulatory mechanisms under EDU treatment during prevailing high tropospheric O3. The present study showed EDU protective roles in C4 plants as proven in C3.'Yunhongli No. 1' is a rare and well-colored red pear (Pyrus pyrifolia) germplasm resource, and is popular in the market due to its bright red color and high quality. Light induces the expression of transportation factor genes MYB10, WD40, and HY5, which then activate the expression of critical genes in the anthocyanin biosynthesis pathway to promote the synthesis and accumulation of anthocyanin, thus giving the red coloration. Protein HY5 is considered to be a key regulator for induction of anthocyanin biosynthesis. The MYB10 genes physically interact with HY5 to positively regulate anthocyanin biosynthesis in Arabidopsis, apple, and pear by binding to G-box motifs. However, how these transcription factors are regulated by sunlight remains unclear in 'Yunhongli No. 1'. In this study, the transcription factor PyHY5 was cloned, and subcellular localization assay showed that PyHY5 was distributed in the nucleus. The DNA fragments of PyHY5 had a typical BRLZ domain of the bZIP family, and then were aligned against the promoter sequences of PyMYB10 and PyWD40. Electrophoretic mobility shift and transient expression assays showed that PyHY5 could directly recognize and bind to the G-box motifs in the promoters of PyMYB10 and PyWD40, and so boosted transcriptional activation by co-expression. The results demonstrated that PyHY5 binding to G-box motifs of the promoters of PyMYB10 and PyWD40, enhanced its expression, and then promoted accumulation of anthocyanin in red 'Yunhongli No. 1'.Seed germination is critical for successful crop production and this growth stage can be very sensitive to salt stress depending on the plant's tolerance mechanisms. The pretreatment of Chenopodium quinoa (quinoa) seeds with CaCl2, H2O2 and sodium nitroprusside (SNP) limited the adverse effect of salt stress on seed germination. The pre-treated seeds showed a significant increase in germination rate, relative germination rate and germination index while the mean germination time was significantly reduced under both optimal and stress conditions. In parallel with seed germination, the negative effect of salt stress on the activity of α-amylase and β-amylase was reduced in pre-treated seeds. The amylase enzymes are responsible for starch hydrolysis, so the reduction of amylase activity by salt stress resulted in higher starch content in the seeds and lower concentrations of water-soluble sugars such as glucose. Pretreatment stimulated amylase activity resulting in starch breakdown and increased content of water-soluble sugars in the salt-stressed seeds. Protein and amino acid contents were significantly enhanced in salt-stressed seeds, which were highlighted in pre-treated seeds. The findings of this study demonstrate that pretreatment of quinoa seeds with CaCl2, H2O2 and SNP at 5, 5 and 0.2 mM, respectively, concentration to achieve rapid germination at high levels under optimal and salt-stress conditions.
To examine and validate thresholds for inter-eye differences in peripapillary retinal nerve fibre (pRNFL) and ganglion cell+inner plexiform layer (GCIPL) thicknesses for identifying unilateral optic neuritis in MS.
In this two-centre, cross-sectional study, optical coherence tomography was performed in 340 patients with clinically isolated syndrome (CIS) and MS. Cut-off values of inter-eye difference for identification of eyes with a history of unilateral ON were evaluated by receiver-operating characteristics analysis.
For pRNFL ≥5µm, sensitivity was 69% and specificity 68%, while for GCIPL ≥4µm sensitivity was 67% and specificity 78%. The areas under the curve (AUC) were 0.72 (95% confidence interval 0.64 - 0.79) for pRNFL and 0.78 (95%CI 0.72 - 0.85) for GCIPL, indicating GCIPL as the superior model (p<0.001). When analysing only CIS patients, GCIPL inter-eye difference ≥4µm also remained significant, while pRNFL inter-eye difference did not.
Inter-eye differences of ≥4μm for GCIPL and to a lesser degree ≥5μm for RNFL are robust thresholds for identifying unilateral optic nerve lesions. These thresholds could be used to demonstrate previous symptomatic and possibly asymptomatic ON and might be included into a new version of the diagnostic criteria.

Experimental electrical injury was caused by exposure to alternating current at 100 V for 10 s. The peaks of Al, Sn, and Zn were detected by EDX in formalin-fixed skin samples of each current exposure group. Histological examination revealed blister formation in all samples of each current exposure group. EDX analysis technique can be applied to detect Al, Sn, and Zn as the electric conductor, and is useful in the diagnosis of electrocution.
The creation of the World Anti-Doping Agency in 1999 and the first implementation of the Anti-Doping Code in 2004 established institutional and legal level legitimacy for the anti-doping movement. Subsequently, a distinct line of research examining athletes' perceptions of anti-doping has emerged. This study aims to review the literature on legitimacy via athletes' perceptions of the underpinning values, fairness and effectiveness of anti-doping rules and procedures.
A systematic mapping review with computerised literature search of seven databases (EBSCOHost, PubMed, Ingenta, ScienceDirect, SCOPUS, SPORTDiscuss and Google Scholar) was used, followed by hand-search of reference lists and relevant journals. Based on Tyler's (2006) psychological components of legitimacy (proper, just, and appropriate), a bespoke conceptual map and analytical framework was developed and employed for retrospective categorisation.
Thirty-nine studies representing 15,434 participants met the inclusion criteria. About half of ter transparency and explicit support for athletes who were affected by doping. Future research requires standardised conceptual framework and measures.
Legitimacy is an important concept in anti-doping. Attention to globally equal and fair implementation of testing and sanctioning is warranted. Legitimacy perceptions can be improved by better communication from anti-doping organisations to highlight progress with detection, greater transparency and explicit support for athletes who were affected by doping. Future research requires standardised conceptual framework and measures.Substantial amounts of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions generated at urban wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) are gaining increasing appreciation. Improving upon the commonly used Process-Based Life-Cycle Analysis (PLCA) and Environmentally-Extended Life-Cycle Analysis (EIO-LCA) models, we construct a Hybrid Life Cycle Analysis (HLCA) model and quantify both direct and indirect GHG emissions at the operational stage of WWTPs in Shenzhen, one of the fastest urbanizing cities in the world. The results show that WWTPs using AAO-MBR technology have the highest GHG emission intensity, averaging 0.79 tons per m3, primarily due to its large electricity intensity required. WWTPs using other technologies emit 0.27 to 0.39 tons of GHGs per m3 of wastewater treated. GHG emissions associated with electricity use occupy the largest share, ranging from 65 to 75%. Therefore, transforming the energy structure of the electric power sector to low-carbon sources can reduce WWTPs operational GHG emissions. In total, GHG emissions from Shenzhen's urban wastewater sector have increased from below 0.5 million tons in 2012 to over 0.6 million tons in 2017. Inter-model comparison shows that EIO-LCA substantially underestimates the urban wastewater sector's GHG emissions using the water sector's average parameters while PLCA also results in minor underestimations due the omission of indirect emissions in the production stage of chemicals and other material inputs.Emerging carsharing services and their interconnections with other modes of urban transport, regulations, car manufacturing and population have affected the dynamics of energy consumption, environmental pollution and greenhouse gas emission within a complex system. However, although some aspects of environmental impacts of transport sector have been investigated in the literature, well-deserved studies on the environmental effects of carsharing services following a system thinking approach is missing. This research aims at providing a comprehensive conceptual framework to systematize the interconnections between carsharing services and their environmental effects. To do this, system dynamics (SD) modeling, as a tool to simulate complex and dynamic systems, is applied and the proposed framework model is illustrated by using a causal-loop diagram (CLD). Along with analyzing the main identified causal loops within the presented CLD, relevant strategies are proposed to reduce the negative environmental effects associated with the carsharing services, considering the whole lifecycle of a shared vehicle. The proposed framework can help environment policy makers and shared mobility practitioners in long-term strategic decision-making. Moreover, it can be applied by the researchers as a basis for future research, not only for SD modeling but also other simulation and analysis structures.
