Independent risk factors for severe tamponades were endocardial ablation of ventricular tachycardia, epicardial approach, balloon device ablation, high aspiration volume during pericardiocentesis and structural heart disease. Conclusion The frequency of tamponades is strongly dependent on the type of procedure performed. Overall tamponade-related mortality was low but significantly higher in patients undergoing epicardial procedures. ICE FALCON has some similarities to Mendelian randomization (MR) but uses in effect all the familial determinants of the exposure, not just those captured by measured genetic variants, and does not require genetic data nor make strong assumptions. ICE FALCON can assess tracking of a measure over time, an issue often difficult to assess using MR due to lack of a valid instrumental variable. Methods We describe ICE FALCON and present two empirical applications with simulations. Results We found evidence consistent with body mass index (BMI) having a causal effect on DNA methylation at the ABCG1 locus, the same conclusion as from MR analyses but providing about 2.5 times more information per subject. We found evidence that tracking of BMI is consistent with longitudinal causation, as well as familial confounding. The simulations supported the validity of ICE FALCON. Conclusions There are conceptual similarities between ICE FALCON and MR, but empirically they are giving similar conclusions with possibly more information per subject from ICE FALCON. ICE FALCON can be applied to circumstances in which MR cannot be applied, such as when there is no a priori genetic knowledge and/or data available to create a valid instrumental variable, or when the assumptions underlying MR analysis are suspect. ICE FALCON could provide insights into causality for a wide range of public health questions.Generating negative news coverage of state welfare provision has been identified as a strategy designed to create public support for radical policies aimed to reduce such provision. To date, research of this kind has focused on scandals and crises. However, little is known about the complex relationship between media representations of specific events, and those of media representations in the lead up to these events, what we refer to as periphery representations. Employing a content and frame analysis, this paper analyses the frequency and intensity of peripheral representations of the National Health Service (NHS) in the British print media for 1 week a month before and for 1 week during three key events in recent NHS history the official consultation period for the Health and Social Care Act; the publication of Five-Year Forward View, and the first Junior Doctor Strike. This article finds that negative NHS representations in articles that are peripheral to particular topical issues of controversy evidence fluctuations, amplifications and intensities across time periods, depending on the particular context. The paper concludes by arguing that repetition of negative themes in news helps to build a sensibility of 'inadequacy' of vital services. We hope that this focus on the ways in which amplifications and de-amplifications in negative intensity of peripheral NHS representations across time and content, helps to contribute to debate about the complex interplay between public health services, media representation and policy consent.Background and objective Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is one of the most common and urgent neonatal emergencies in the neonatal intensive care unit. This disease leads to considerable morbidity and mortality; it also imposes a huge financial burden on patient family and society. Thus, Treatment and prevention of NEC are crucial. This meta-analysis aims to investigate the effect and safety of Saccharomyces boulardii for NEC in pre-term infants. Methods A comprehensive search was retrieved in six major databases. The search included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) reporting the incidence of NEC (stage ≥ II), sepsis, mortality, feeding intolerance, full feeding days, time to regain birth weight, days of hospitalization and adverse effects. The random model was used to calculate risk ratio (RR), the standard mean difference (SMD) and its 95% confidence interval (95% CI) between the S. boulardii group and control group. Statistical analyses were conducted using Cochrane systematic review software, Rev Man (epsis, mortality and the time to regain birth weight.
