METHODS This study was designed as a single-center, parallel, examiner blinded, randomized, two-group clinical trial. Eighty-four participants were enrolled and randomly assigned to receive either a nano-gold or uncoated toothbrush. Basic periodontal therapy was performed for all the recruited subjects, and plaque scores of zero were considered baseline values. All participants were instructed to follow a twice-daily brushing regimen without dentifrice and to refrain from other oral hygiene care during the one-week study period. Plaque levels were assessed after one week using the Turesky modification of the Quigley-Hein Plaque Index (TMQHPI). The bristles were tested for microbial contamination by viable cell counting. The recorded data were statistically analyzed, and a P value of less than 0.05 was accepted as statistically significant. RESULTS After one week of brushing without using toothpaste, the mean plaque index scores were 0.37 ± 0.07 in the nano-gold group and 0.58 ± 0.10 in the uncoated group. A significant difference in the mean plaque scores was observed between the groups (P less then 0.001). The mean colony-forming unit (CFU) was 21 ± 48.8 for the nano-gold coated group and 100 ± 128.4 for the uncoated group. The difference in the mean CFUs observed between the groups was significant (P=0.014). CONCLUSION The use of a nano-gold coated toothbrush demonstrated significantly lower bristle contamination and lower plaque scores after one week compared with uncoated toothbrushes without using dentifrice. The result worsening disaster response to flood and drought. Dynamic change of wetland hydrologic connectivity is affected by a variety of driving factors. Many degraded wetlands have undergone hydrologic connectivity restoration measures. Recovery can improve the hydrologic connectivity pattern of degraded wetlands. Based on the knowledge of practitioners and the review of existing literature, it was found that recovery measures can be divided into structural recovery and functional recovery according to the specific recovery objects. However, the current method lacks a holistic analysis of the hydrologic connectivity pattern. To this end, this paper proposes a hydrologic network-water balance based hydrologic connectivity recovery and management framework that overcomes the limitations of single drive factor repair and local repair effects. This review is aimed to make a comprehensive survey of secondary metabolites that were derived from marine Micromonospora including chemical diversity and biological activities. A total of 116 compounds from 41 marine Micromonospora species have been reported, covering the literatures from 1997 to 2019. These compounds contain several structural classes such as polyketides (PKS), nonribosomal peptides (NRPS), PKS-NRPS hybrids, terpenes and others, and they present cytotoxic, antibacterial, antiparasitic, chemopreventive or antioxidant activities. © 2020 Wiley-VHCA AG, Zurich, Switzerland. The continued rise in the extraction of unconventional oil and gas across the globe poses many questions about how to manage these relatively new waste-streams. Produced water, the primary waste by-product, contains a diverse number of anthropogenic additives together with the numerous hydrocarbons extracted from the well. Due to potential environmental hazards, it is critical to characterize the chemical composition of this type of waste before proper disposal or remediation/reuse. In this work, a thin film solid phase microextraction approach was developed and optimized to characterize produced water. The thin film device consisted of hydrophilic-lipophilic balance particles embedded in polydimethylsiloxane and immobilized on a carbon mesh surface. These devices were chosen to provide broad extraction coverage and high reusability. Various parameters were evaluated to ensure reproducible results while minimizing analyte loss. This optimized protocol, consisting of a 15 min extraction followed by a short (3 s) rinsing step, enabled the reproducible analysis of produced water without any sample pretreatment. selleck chemical Extraction efficiency was suitable for both produced water additives and hydrocarbons. The developed approach was able to tentatively identify a total of 201 compounds from produced water samples, by using one-dimensional gas chromatography hyphenated to mass spectrometry and data deconvolution. © 2020 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. However, little is known about the neurophysiological mechanism of penile peripheral nerve sensitization. Piezo Type Mechanosensitive Ion Channel Component 2 (PIEZO2), was recently identified as a mechanically sensitive channel. OBJECTIVES This study explored the possible neural mechanisms of PIEZO2 action in the mechanisms of premature ejaculation using molecular biology and electrophysiology approaches. MATERIALS AND METHODS One hundred seventy male rats and 85 female rats were recruited. The females were induced estrus by injection of estradiol benzoate and progesterone followed by surgically castrated. Subsequently, the copulatory behaviors were record by a video camera six times, once a week. The last three mating processes of 134 male rats were successfully recorded. The males were divided into three groups according to ejaculation frequency value. Immunocytochemical and molecular methods as well as wolvement in peripheral nerve sensitization, indicating that pharmacological antagonism of PIEZO2 may be a useful strategy for treating premature ejaculation. link2 © 2020 American Society of Andrology and European Academy of Andrology.OBJECTIVE The aim of our study was to evaluate the outcome of patients with severe aortic stenosis presenting with acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF) and planned for transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) and to study the variables influencing their prognosis. METHODS Our retrospective study included 801 patients planned for TAVI in our center. Seven hundred and fifty-six underwent TAVI and were categorized according to ADHF as the initial clinical presentation into two groups ADHF group (n = 261) and no-ADHF group (n = 495). Pre as well as periprocedural outcomes and 1 year mortality were analyzed. RESULTS Among the patients planned for the TAVI procedure, 45 patients remained untreated 35 patients died while waiting to undergo TAVI which represented 20% of all deaths in our study, ADHF was observed in 23 of 45 (51%) these untreated patients. The 1-year all-cause mortality rate was significantly higher in the ADHF group versus the no-ADHF group (27% vs. 15%, p less then .0001). In multivariate analysis, male gender (odds ratio [OR] =2.5, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.37-4.57, p = .03), body mass index less then 25 kg/m2 (OR = 2.76, 95% CI 1.51-5.04, p = .0009), and logistic EuroSCORE II ≥20% (OR = 3.04, 95% CI 1.56-5.94, p = .001) were associated with a higher 1-year mortality in the ADHF group. CONCLUSION The patients eligible for TAVI presenting with ADHF were associated with a higher mortality for both while on the waiting list for TAVI as well as at 1-year follow-up and thus asking for clearer criteria to prioritize action in this high-risk TAVI patients. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.Asians as a group comprise of over 60% the world's population. There is an incredible amount of diversity in Asian and admixed populations that has not been studied in a pharmacogenetic context. The known pharmacogenetic differences in Asians subgroups generally represent previously known variants that are present at much lower or higher frequencies in Asians compared to other populations. This review aims to summarize the main drugs and known genes that appear to have differences in their pharmacogenetic properties in certain Asian populations. Evidence based guidelines and summary statistics from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Clinical Pharmacogenetics Implementation Consortium (CPIC) were analyzed for ethnic differences in outcomes. Implicated drugs included commonly prescribed drugs such as warfarin, clopidogrel, carbamazepine, and allopurinol. The majority of these associations are due to Asians more commonly being CYP2C19 poor metabolizers and carriers of the HLA-B*1502 allele. link3 The relative risk increase seen ranged between genes and drugs but could be over 100x more likely in Asians such as the 172x increase in risk of SJS and TEN with carbamazepine use amongst HLA-B*1502 carriers. The effects ranged from relatively benign reactions such as reduced drug efficacy to severe cutaneous skin reactions. These reactions are severe and prevalent enough to warrant pharmacogenetic testing and appropriate changes in dosing and medication choice for at risk populations. Further studies should be done on Asian cohorts to more fully understand pharmacogenetic variants in these populations to understand how such differences may influence drug response. © 2020 The Authors. Although most patients with localized RMS are cured, outcome of those with metastatic disease remains unsatisfactory. RMS with bone marrow (BM) metastasis accounts for approximately 6% of all cases with RMS and has a 3-year event-free survival of 14%. Our study aims to describe our institution's experience of patients with metastatic RMS with BM involvement. METHODS This was a single-institution retrospective study from Memorial Sloan Kettering Kids, a tertiary pediatric oncology center. Patients with RMS who were diagnosed with BM metastasis between 1998 and 2018 were identified from pathology reports. RESULTS For patients with RMS and BM positivity at diagnosis (N = 27), the median survival was 1.5 years. The 1-, 2-, and 3-year overall survival (OS) were 81%, 32%, and 20%, respectively. There is one long-term (defined as >4 year) survivor who is still alive 14.9 years after diagnosis despite two metastatic recurrences.
