A New Trend In Diva ADHD Assessment
DIVA ADHD - Improving Adult ADHD Diagnosis

DIVA is an interview that is semistructured designed to enhance ADHD assessment for adults. This study will evaluate the reliability of the criteria used to determine DIVA 2.0 and its validity in conjunction with Conners Adult ADHD Diagnostic Interview for DSM-IV (CAADID) criteria.

Compared to the top 20 attributes, DIVA attributes that correlate strongest with diagnosis are attention deficit for both childhood and adulthood and hyperactivity/impulsivity for adults, followed by CAARS ADHD TT1 score and IOWA personality disorders evaluation.

Symptoms

The symptoms of ADD/ADHD can affect every area of life including relationships and career advancement to the day-to-day activities that comprise our lives. That's why it is so crucial that our ADHD assessments adopt a holistic approach by examining how symptoms affect all aspects of life. During your assessment, Dr Schilling will start by gathering details of your symptoms and health history. She will then conduct a DIVA 5 assessment. This is a semi-structured, structured interview that evaluates both the core symptoms and the impact of ADD/ADHD your life.

The DIVA is a diagnostic interview tool developed by psychiatrists and psychologists to determine adult ADHD symptoms. It has been demonstrated to have a high sensitivity to sound and specificity. It is extremely effective in identifying those who have the disorder. It is able to raise awareness and help diagnose adult ADHD in Korea as it is the only validated semistructured diagnostic test available in the country.

To perform the DIVA the trained clinician - often psychologist or psychiatrist will inquire about the primary symptoms of ADHD such as hyperactivity, inattention, and the tendency to be impulsive. The clinician will also delve into the person's past and examine their childhood experiences and how they may influence their present behavior. This is because the symptoms of ADHD do not just appear in a flash, they manifest throughout one's childhood, teen years, and into adulthood.

The DIVA can detect ADHD because it considers both the DSM-IV ADHD criteria in childhood and in adulthood, and how these symptoms affect the individual's daily functioning across five areas: education, employment, family/partner relationships and leisure/social activities, as well as confidence in oneself. Other screening tools, such as the WURS brief that was compared with the CAADID showed poor sensitivity, and negative predictive value.

Diagnosis

To determine ADHD in adults, it is crucial to assess the symptoms as well as their history. This can be accomplished through a comprehensive interview on childhood symptoms as well as a neurological examination. It is essential to take into consideration the impact that these symptoms have on the individual's work and daily life. This can be assessed using a structured clinical interview, the DIVA, and in some cases, obtaining information from friends and family members.

The DIVA interview is a semistructured interview first designed for adults in the Netherlands. It has been updated for use with adult patients in other countries as well, including Korea. The study examined the criterion valid of the Korean version (DIVA-5), in the clinical sample of patients with ADHD.

During the DIVA the clinician will ask about ADHD symptoms during the early years of life and into adulthood. They will also ask the age at which they first noticed symptoms and the degree of impairment caused by these symptoms. The clinician also collects diverse set of sociodemographic data and asks about any psychosis-related co-morbidity.

MINI-S plus Version 5.0.0, the Brief Alcohol Related Neuropsychological Impaired Screening Instrument (BEARNI), and the Frontal Assessment Battery were used to detect psychiatric co-morbidity. A clinical diagnosis of ADHD was made by two experienced psychiatrists who used the DIVA-5, a structured diagnostic interview, to evaluate symptoms in both the early years and in childhood, and determine the duration of those symptoms.

The sensitivity and specificity of DIVA-5 was found to be high for both inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity symptoms in childhood and adulthood. This diagnostic tool has good concurrent validity when compared with the WURS scale and has fair validity when compared to three self-report ratings instruments that include the ASRS (self-report rating), FAB (self-report rating) and Sheehan's Dysfunction Inventory.

The sensitivity and specificity of the DIVA-5 was found to be high for all subtypes of ADHD in both inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity in adulthood and during childhood. The accuracy of diagnosing ADHD with the DIVA-5 was found to be comparable to the accuracy of a clinical diagnosis formulated by two renowned psychiatrists. This was in line with the sensitivity as well as specificity of earlier screening tools, such as ASRS and WURS.

Treatment

If you're not aware of ADHD it can greatly affect your life. This can be in many aspects, from relationships to work and academic progress to the simple tasks of organising your day-to-day life. A diagnosis can help you recognize your strengths and weaknesses as well as offer solutions to help you manage your symptoms and mechanisms.

A licensed clinician, usually psychologist or psychiatrist will conduct a structured discussion with you about your current symptoms using the DIVA-5 assessment tool. It will include standardised questions regarding your levels of hyperactivity, inattention, and the tendency to be impulsive. It will also look into your personal history, including your childhood experiences to create a complete picture of your symptoms.

This method is essential to ensure a thorough diagnosis of adult ADHD. It also allows us to identify the root cause of your symptoms, which helps guide your treatment.

The DIVA assessment is a highly efficient method of diagnosing adult ADHD and has excellent sensitivity and specificity. It has also been demonstrated to have sound criterion validity when compared with self-report rating scales such as the Wender Utah Rating Scale (WURS) and the ADHD-Rating Scale. It has good concordance validity with these scales and good validity with Sheehan's Dysfunction Inventory.

The DIVA evaluation, unlike more traditional methods of measuring ADHD in adulthood, focuses on identifying symptoms that manifest in the teen years and in adulthood. description here increases the accuracy of diagnoses and allows a more accurate comparison of sociodemographic traits between the two groups. The DIVA assessment also allows for consideration of the effects of co-existing disorders on the presentation and severity of ADHD symptoms.

If your Psychologist is not able to recommend treatment, it might be necessary to set up an appointment with a Pediatrician or Psychiatrist to further assess and/or therapy. They can then refer you to a specialist Psychologist to conduct an thorough evaluation of your symptoms and to determine if there are any co-occurring diagnoses or differential diagnoses. This includes assessing any comorbid conditions, such as depression or anxiety. This will enable your Psychologist to suggest an appropriate treatment plan.

Getting Started

Being diagnosed with ADHD can be life-changing and provide explanations for lingering issues and opening doors to effective treatment options. However, a thorough evaluation requires the expertise of qualified healthcare professionals. The DIVA ADHD assessment is a standardized and extensive tool that assists to improve the accuracy of adult ADHD diagnosis by evaluating symptoms across different life stages. It also helps identify patterns of behavior that are persistent and aids in distinguishing between ADHD symptoms and other conditions like depression or anxiety.

In a DIVA ADHD assessment, a doctor conducts an interview to ask an array of questions about symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity. The doctor evaluates the frequency, severity and duration of these symptoms in order to understand how they impact an individual's life and how they function in a variety of situations. This information can then be used to develop an accurate diagnosis.

The DIVA test is confirmed in comparison to other diagnostic tools. It has high sensitivity compared to WURS-briefs, CAA-DIDs and psychiatrist's tests. It also has a high degree of accuracy when assessing ADHD symptoms in five areas of daily functioning: education and work; relationships; family and home social interactions; free time and hobbies.

A well-validated DIVA assessment requires the participation of the person being evaluated as well as their close family members and friends. This will help build trust and strengthen the therapeutic bond that is crucial to the success of the evaluation.

A psychologist or psychiatrist with experience in the DIVA ADHD assessment can write an extensive, professional report. This report will outline the findings of the test and provide a treatment strategy that is based on evidence.

If you suspect that you or someone you love might have ADHD, please contact us for an appointment. Our doctor Kate Schilling has been trained in the use of DIVA ADHD assessments and is able to provide a comprehensive evaluation. She can then provide an appointment with a specialist to develop an effective treatment plan. Please be aware that a combination of medication and psychotherapy is the best treatment.
