Mycosis Fungoides (MF) is a rare T-cell lymphoma and evidence on treatment practices, and outcomes are limited. We evaluated changes in practice patterns and corresponding effects on overall survival (OS) in MF using a cross-sectional study of patients diagnosed with MF from 2004 to 2016 in the National Cancer Database. Outcomes evaluated included patterns of care and OS across treatment eras. We found factors associated with chemotherapy use included male gender, treatment from 2004 to 2010 and stage III-IV disease. Factors associated with radiotherapy receipt included stage I-II disease, nonacademic treatment centers, male gender, non-black race, and Medicare status. Immunotherapy use was associated with treatment from 2004 to 2010 and stage III-IV disease. After propensity score matching, there was no OS difference among patients with stage I-II disease between 2004-2010 and 2011-2016. However, amongst patients with stage III-IV disease, OS was significantly improved in those treated from 2011 to 2016.Dry mouth is the main manifestation of Sjögren syndrome (SS). Quercetin has been reported to alleviate radiation-induced salivary gland damage, yet the effect of quercetin on SS-caused salivary gland damage remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the effects of quercetin on SS-induced salivary gland damage and the mechanism underlying its therapeutic potential in SS. Here, NOD/Ltj mice were used to spontaneously mimic SS-induced salivary gland inflammation in vivo and salivary gland epithelial cells (SGECs) were stimulated by interferon-γ (IFN-γ) to mimic cell inflammation in vitro. Results showed that quercetin significantly reduced loss of saliva flow, salivary gland damage, cell apoptosis, and inflammatory response in NOD/Ltj mice. Quercetin treatment also significantly reduced the increased serum leptin (LP) levels in NOD/Ltj mice. Furthermore, quercetin blocked the increases in the expression of obesity receptor (OB-R) and its downstream Janus kinase 2/signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (JAK2/STAT3) signaling in the salivary glands. In vitro experiments confirmed that quercetin could protect SGECs from IFN-γ-induced cell apoptosis and inflammation through the LP/OB-R-activated JAK2/STAT3 signaling. Hence, quercetin might protect against SS-induced salivary gland damage by relieving cell apoptosis and inflammation by inhibiting the LP/OB-R signaling, providing a new perspective for treating SS-induced dry mouth.Potentiometric acid-base titration curves collected on humic (nano)particles as a function of pH and salt concentration reflect the electrostatics of the particles and the amount of chemical charges (Q) they carry. In turn, the interpretation of titration data helps quantify their reactivity toward metals provided that both intrinsic chemical and nonspecific electrostatic contributions to proton binding are correctly unraveled. Establishing a titration curve requires several steps, i.e., blank subtraction, relative curve positioning with respect to the electrolyte concentration, and absolute curve positioning achieved by the estimation of particle charge Q0 at low pH. Failure to properly establish each step may lead to the misevaluation of nanoparticle charging behavior. Here, we report (i) a simple procedure to measure and position titration curves for humic substances (HS) versus salt concentration and (ii) an original approach for absolute curve positioning upon the exploitation of proton affinity spectra. The latter do not depend on Q0 and they thus constrain the titration data analysis using the soft Poisson-Boltzmann-based titration (SPBT) formalism for nanoparticles in the thick electric double-layer regime. We illustrate the benefits of our approach by analyzing titration measurements for a large range of humic nanoparticles and by comparing the outcome with results from the literature.

To evaluate the effectiveness of group cognitive-behavioral therapy (GCBT) for the treatment of adolescents with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD).

This review was registered in PROSPERO under number CRD42020158475. Five databases (PubMed, Virtual Health Library, Web of Science, Scopus, and PsycINFO) were searched. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 13 studies were analyzed in the qualitative synthesis (i.e., systematic review) and eight in the quantitative synthesis (i.e., meta-analysis). For the latter, fixed-effect modeling was used to assess the primary outcome (i.e., OCD symptoms).

The main findings suggest that GCBT is effective in reducing the symptoms of OCD in adolescents (d = -1.32). However, these results must be interpreted with caution, since all of the included studies showed some bias in their design.

Mapping tissue function is possible using several well-known examples of "functional imaging" such as positron emission tomography and functional magnetic resonance imaging that can provide the spatial distribution of time-dependent biological processes. These functional imaging methods represent the net output of molecular networks influenced by local tissue environments that are difficult to predict from molecular/cellular content alone. However, for decades, MSI methods have also been demonstrated to provide functional imaging data on a variety of biological processes. In fact, MSI exceeds some of the classic functional imaging methods, demonstrating the ability to provide functional data from the nanoscale (subcellular) to whole tissue or organ level. This Perspective highlights several examples of how different MSI ionization and detection technologies can provide unprecedented detailed spatial maps of time-dependent biological processes, namely, nucleic acid synthesis, lipid metabolism, bioenergetics, and protein metabolism. By classifying various MSI methods under the umbrella of "functional MSI", we hope to draw attention to both the unique capabilities and accessibility with the aim of expanding this underappreciated field to include new approaches and applications.
Cervical cancer is the second leading cause of female cancer deaths in Nigeria. Routine cervical cancer screening and early treatment can prevent up to 80% of cervical cancers. This study was carried out to assess the knowledge, risk factors and practice of cervical cancer screening among women residing in urban slums of Lagos, Nigeria.

This descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out among 315 women aged 21-65 years in two slums in Lagos, Nigeria. A two-stage sampling method was used to select respondents. Data was collected using interviewer administered questionnaires. Analysis was done with IBM SPSS version 20.

Only 3.2% had heard of cervical cancer. Most of the women did not know the symptoms (99.4%), or risk factors (99.7%) of cervical cancer, and 96.8% had not heard about cervical cancer screening. Forty-four percent of the respondents were between 21-30 years of age. Half of the respondents (51.4%) had only one lifetime sexual partner. Thirty-eight percent of the respondents had 3-4 children. About forty percent had their first childbirth at less than 20 years of age. Only 4.4% use tobacco. Only two respondents (0.6%) had undergone cervical cancer screening however, 93.3% of the respondents were willing to undergo cervical cancer screening. There was no significant association between socio-demographic factors, risk factors, and willingness to undergo cervical cancer screening.

Carnitine palmitoyltransferase-1A (CPT1A) has been reported to be upregulated in colorectal cancer. This paper aims to explore the role of CPT1A in UC and its pathogenesis. An in vivo mice model of UC was constructed by administrating 3% dextran sulfate sodium (DSS). The expression level of CPT1A was examined by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and Western blot. The intestinal damage, inflammatory response and oxidative stress were assessed by hematoxylin and eosin staining, colon length, and commercial kits. Thereafter, an in vitro cell model of UC was established by stimulating HT-29 cells with 2% DSS. The peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor α (PPARα) signaling agonist GW7647 was used for treatment. Cell viability and apoptosis was assayed by cell counting kit-8 assay and terminal dUTP nick-end labeling assay, respectively. Additionally, in DSS-induced HT-29 cells, downregulation of CPT1A promoted cell viability, reduced cell apoptosis, inflammatory response, and oxidative stress, which was partly abolished by additional treatment with GW7647. In summary, downregulation of CPT1A exerts a protective effect in DSS-induced UC partially through suppressing PPARα signaling, suggesting that CPT1A might be a potential target for the treatment of UC.
Perihematomal edema (PHE) is an important determinant of outcome in spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) due to cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD). However, it is not known to date whether the severity of CSVD is associated with the extent of PHE progression in the acute phase.

To investigate the association between the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) marker of severe chronic-ischemia cerebral small vessel changes (sciSVC) and PHE growth or hematoma absorption among ICH patients with hypertension.
