Path of Exile Item Upgrades
The performance of a variety of Path of Exile items can be improved by upgrading their performance. They can be a great source of additional damage, more AD or even more attachments.
In most cases, however upgraded Common and Magic gear is outclassed by Rare-grade gear because of their requirements.
Armor
Armor upgrades can be applied to both weapon and armor items. They boost the performance of the item that they are attached to. Upgrades to armor are available in the game's world and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. They can also be salvaged using a specialist or higher salvage kits to salvage upgrade components from other items.
The amount of damage that an armored item or weapon will absorb is contingent on the level of its upgrades. The damage absorption of an item of armor will increase when it's upgraded to the highest upgrade level. Casesgg to remember that this will increase the weight of the armor, so it must be more heavy.
There are several kinds of armor upgrades available in the game, and each one has distinct effects. Certain upgrades grant armor a greater number of health points while others make it more powerful and lighter. The name of the upgrade will tell you the kind of upgrade the item can receive, as shown below.
Some of the upgrades are also magic or a hybrid of magic and technology, which is identified by a "Magic" or "Hybrid" entry in the table below. Certain upgrades require charges in order to be used. They are referred to as "Charges" entries in the table. The charges for these upgrades refresh every day or never expire, depending on the upgrade.
Iron Ore is the cheapest method to upgrade your armor. You can locate it by exploring and looting small treasure chests. Titanium is more expensive but can be found at the smelters in Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Certain upgrades, like the Reforge and the Hot Potato Books, can only be applied to high level armor pieces. These upgrades can provide significant boost to stats and are worth the investment, particularly for one-handed weapons.
The player must be aware, however, that upgrading a piece up to the max upgrade level will increase its defense values. However, it will also reduce the speed and agility of the piece. This is why it is typically not recommended to upgrade most armor pieces above +9, since the added defense is generally not worth the weight and power cost of the improvements required.
Weapons
Weapon upgrades allow players to improve the effectiveness of specific aspects of an weapon. Upgrades can boost the accuracy of a rifle or the damage caused by shotgun shells. Certain firearms also have upgrades that enhance their inherent qualities. Frictionless materials (improves stability, minimizes the possibility of overheating) and Kinetic coils (increases the projectile's speed for greater damage) are two examples.
The majority of upgrades to weapons require a whetblade. It's one of three Power Dices and a different amount of Minerals and Erons. They can be obtained by completing Side Quests or by killing a certain amount of bosses and monsters.
The process of upgrading a weapon, equipment Set piece, or Whetblade requires visiting the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine and paying her an upgrade price that is based on a specific number of Bars. The higher the upgrade level, the more bars you will need to complete the upgrade. If you have multiple upgrade materials the cost of upgrading will be lower.
In Chapter 2: Season 5, the method of upgrading your weapon and equipment sets changed a little. In the past, you could seek out an Upgrade Bench and pay a set amount of Bars to upgrade your equipment or weapon to a higher rarity. You could do this until your weapon or equipment reached its maximum upgrade level and at that point, the upgrades would be reset.
You can still do this, but the process is based on RNG and low on agency. You're better off buying gear with low upgrade levels, but high base scores and stat distributions. These items will have a better chance of giving you the most prestigious tier of blessings and perks.
To increase their level quicker, players usually be more inclined to upgrade their weapons. Players should also upgrade the weapons their squadmates use to boost their strength. Shepard, for example, should upgrade the M92F so that he can unlock the Beretta M93R. This will make the weapon more useful when accompanied with biotic specialists such as Grunt and Tali.
Jewels
Jewels are used in the armor's sockets and weapons, enhancing the power of a character and bringing about secondary effects. They can be created through the process of jewelry crafting, where you combine a gem with several ingredients at a table for jewelry. The higher the level of the gem, the better its secondary effect. These reagents can be found around the world from Treasure Goblins, World Bosses and occasionally by salvaging Legendary equipment. You can also buy them from The Jeweler for gold and a Scattered Prism.
The Jeweler can improve the quality of the gem in stages that range from Crude up to Royal. The boosts to stats will differ depending on the level the jewel is at when it's inserted into jewelry, weapons or other gear.
All tiers of jewels can be crafted at the Jeweler, with the exception of the rare and legendary gems that require you to be at a high enough level to qualify for these. In contrast to other upgrade components, jewels can be swapped with another jewel of the same kind without damaging the original one. However, you can only replace a jewel in an item of equipment once.
Using more jewels in the movement will make it feel smoother and is usually done for aesthetic reasons. Jewels also enhance performance and make a harder surface than steel, so that the repeated friction from pivots does not cause damage to the movement.
In addition to the above-mentioned upgrades players can also get glyphs for their weapons and shields from a Glyphmaster. These are a small perk and can be swapped freely however they aren't guaranteed to drop as loot. Glyphs are upgradeable, like jewelry, at the Jeweler for gold and a Scattered Crystal. Glyphs can also be taken out, which returns them to the inventory. Other upgrade components, such as traits or aegis cannot be exchanged and can only be retrieved through an upgrade extractor, or salvaging with a Black Lion Salvage Kit or an Ascended Salvage tool.
Trinkets
Trinkets are small pieces of equipment that provide many small, but beneficial benefits to your hero. They are available in the starter area as rewards for personal stories or loot. They can also be obtained from vendors as well as through the completion of road interactions. They can also be crafted by jewelers, and found or purchased at the Trading Post.
The first trinket a player unlocks will be the cloak, which gives a small, but valuable boost to movement speed and the ability to escape. After that, they can acquire rings, amulets, and necklaces in a similar manner to the way a player acquires weapons and armor. Every piece of equipment has a slot for an upgrade which can be universal or jewel. Universal upgrades offer fewer benefits and can be put into any kind of equipment while jewelry cannot be changed or upgraded, and is only compatible with certain types of trinkets.
These trinkets can also grant buffs and skills that are active whenever the hero is not in combat. This lets a hero be more efficient while inactive. It can also make up for the absence of strong team or talent tree slots that are normally filled by the hero's optimal stats.
A good general rule of thumb for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best-in-Slot) items that you aren't planning to replace in the near future, then any items with desirable stats that are less important than the iLevel of the item being upgraded. This is especially true when an item has multiple stats you'd like to upgrade since it's generally better to upgrade a single important stat rather than two sub-optimal ones.
Jungle players often upgrade their yellow trinket to a red trinket at the start of the game. Mid and top players however they will select a green or a pink ward, depending on the matchup. These choices can affect the hero's ability to manage the map.
Aside from the things mentioned above, players may also find a number of other trinkets throughout the game in the form of awards and trophies. These can be earned by completing certain milestones within the story. For instance, completing the main quest for a chapter or beating a boss. These can be viewed by selecting the appropriate achievement from the reward tab of the hero menu.
