We evaluated the oncological outcomes of definitive radiochemotherapy and the clinical significance of SCN involvement. Materials and Methods Between November 2009 and June 2019, a total of 40 patients with N3-positivity and NSCLC were evaluated. Most patients received concomitant chemotherapy, but six patients who received radiotherapy (RT) alone were also included. Twenty-one patients (52.5%) received 3D-conformal RT (3DCRT), and the remainder received intensity-modulated RT (IMRT). Results The median follow-up duration was 10.7 months (range 1.7-120.6 months). Median overall survival (OS) and cause-specific survival (CSS) times were 10.8 months and 16.3 months, respectively. Among the 40 patients, 17 (42.5%) had SCN involvement. SCN involvement negatively affected progression-free survival (hazard ratio (HR) 2.08, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.04-4.17, p = 0.039) and local control (HR 3.05, 95% CI 1.09-8.50, p = 0.034). However, IMRT use was correlated with higher local control (HR 0.28, 95% CI 0.09-0.86, p = 0.027). Grade ≥3 esophagitis and pneumonitis accounted for 7.5% and 15.0% of all cases, respectively. A higher RT dose (mean dose 66.6 vs. 61.7 Gy) was significantly correlated with grade ≥3 pneumonitis (p = 0.001). RT modality was a significant factor (p = 0.042, five of six cases occurred in the IMRT group). Conclusions SCN involvement could negatively affect oncologic outcomes of stage IIIC NSCLC patients. High-dose irradiation with IMRT could increase local control but may cause lung toxicities.The generation of pathologic, immature, and dysfunctional vessels by angiogenesis is a mechanism of metastasis that has been a therapeutic target for colorectal cancer (CRC). In this study, we investigated the clinical relevance of intra-tumoral microvascular endothelial (mvE) cells in CRC using the xCell algorithm on transcriptome. A total of 1244 CRC patients in discovery and validation cohorts were analyzed. We found that an abundance of mvE cells did not mirror angiogenesis but reflected mature blood vessels because it was significantly associated with a high expression of vascular stability-related genes, including sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor genes and pericytes. Epithelial-mesenchymal transition and myogenesis gene sets were enriched in mvE cell abundant CRC, while mvE cell-less CRC enriched cell proliferation, oxidative phosphorylation, and protein secretion gene sets. mvE cell abundant CRC was associated with infiltration of M2 macrophages, dendritic cells, and less gamma-delta T cells (all p less then 0.001), but not with the interferon-γ response. mvE cell abundant CRC was significantly associated with worse patient survival in CRC. Interestingly, mvE cell abundant CRC was significantly associated with a high response rate to chemotherapy (p = 0.012) and worse patient survival for those that did not receive chemotherapy. However, there was no survival difference in patients who underwent chemotherapy. In conclusion, we estimated the abundance of mvE cells using the xCell algorithm on tumor transcriptome finding its association with the number of mature blood vessels in a tumor microenvironment and its ability to predict response to chemotherapy, thereby patient survival in CRC.Use of the paretic arm and hand is a key indicator of recovery and reintegration after stroke. A sound methodology is essential to comprehensively identify the possible factors impacting daily arm/hand use behavior. We combined ecological momentary assessment (EMA), a prompt methodology capturing real-time psycho-contextual factors, with accelerometry to investigate arm/hand behavior in the natural environment. Our aims were to determine (1) feasibility and (2) measurement validity of the combined methodology. We monitored 30 right-dominant, mild-moderately motor impaired chronic stroke survivors over 5 days (6 EMA prompts/day with accelerometers on each wrist). We observed high adherence for accelerometer wearing time (80.3%), EMA prompt response (84.6%), and generally positive user feedback upon exit interview. The customized prompt schedule and the self-triggered prompt option may have improved adherence. There was no evidence of EMA response bias nor immediate measurement reactivity. An unexpected small but significant increase in paretic arm/hand use was observed over days (12-14 min), which may be the accumulated effect of prompting that provided a reminder to choose the paretic limb. Experimental data and manufacturing conditions for the selective laser melting (SLM) of metallic materials (which include aluminum, steel, titanium, copper, tungsten and nickel alloys) are adapted from the literature and used to evaluate the validity of the proposed enhanced model. A strong relation between dependent and independent dimensionless products is observed throughout the studied materials. The proposed enhanced mathematical model shows to be highly accurate since the computed root-mean-square-error values (RMSE) does not exceed 5 × 10-7. Furthermore, an analytical expression for the prediction of bulk density of SLMed components was developed. From this, an expression for determining the needed scanning speed, with respect to laser power, to achieve highly dense components produced via SLM, is derived.
