Perioperative Issues within Endoscopic Endonasal versus Transcranial Resections regarding Grownup Craniopharyngiomas.
To evaluate the association of preoperative sleep pattern with posthysterectomy pain perception and satisfaction with surgery.

This pilot study included women undergoing minimally invasive hysterectomy for benign conditions. Sleep quality, insomnia severity, and insomnia risk were assessed pre- and postoperatively via standard questionnaires. Total sleep time, wake after sleep onset, and sleep efficiency were measured before and after hysterectomy using daily sleep diaries and wrist-worn actigraphy. Pain perception and satisfaction with hysterectomy were assessed postoperatively. Repeated-measures analysis of variance, Pearson's correlation, and linear regression were used for analysis.

Twenty women participated; of them 16 had complete data and were analyzed. Total sleep time increased from 384 ± 102 minutes before to 468 ± 96 minutes after surgery (P = .023). Wake after sleep onset, a measure of sleep fragmentation, increased from 26 ± 15.1 minutes before to 52 ± 22.9 minutes after surgery (P = .014).tion increase following hysterectomy. Shorter, more fragmented preoperative sleep is associated with greater postoperative pain intensity. Better preoperative sleep was associated with more satisfaction after hysterectomy. Further studies are needed to determine if preoperative sleep interventions such as cognitive behavioral therapy improve pain perception and satisfaction after hysterectomy.Strain SDU3-2T was isolated from a soil sample collected in Shandong Province, PR China. Cells of SDU3-2T were spherical, Gram-stain-positive, aerobic and non-motile. Cellular growth of the strain occurred at 25-45 °C, pH 5.5-8.5 and with 0-1.5 % (w/v) of NaCl. Phylogenetic analysis based on the 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain SDU3-2T was closest to the type strain Deinococcus murrayi ALT-1bT with a similarity of 95.2 %. The draft genome was 3.49 Mbp long with 69.2 mol% G+C content. Strain SDU3-2T exhibited high resistance to gamma radiation (D10 >12 kGy) and UV (D10 >900 J m-2). The strain encoded many genes for resistance to radiation and oxidative stress, which were highly conserved with other Deinococcus species, but possessed interspecific properties. The major fatty acids of SDU3-2T cells were C15  1 ω6c, C16  1 ω7c/C16  1 ω6c, and C17  1 ω8c, the major menaquinone was menaquinone-8, and the major polar lipids were an unidentified phosphoglycolipid, four unidentified glycolipids and an unidentified phospholipid. The average nucleotide identity and DNA-DNA hybridization results further indicated that strain SDU3-2T represents a new species in the genus Deinococcus, for which the name Deinococcus terrestris sp. nov. is proposed. The average nucleotide identity and in silico DNA-DNA hybridization values were lower than recommended thresholds of 95 and 70 %, respectively, for species delineation. The major isoprenoid quinone of strain 11K1T was ubiquinone (Q-9) and the major cellular fatty acids were C16  0, summed feature 3 (C16  1 ω7c/C16  1 ω6c), summed feature 8 (C18  1 ω7c/C18  1 ω6c) and C17  0 cyclo. The major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol, aminophospholipid and two unidentified lipids. Based on the results of phenotypic characterization, phylogenetic analysis and genome comparison, strain 11K1T represents a novel species of the genus Pseudomonas, for which the name Pseudomonas viciae sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is 11K1T (=GDMCC 1.1743T=KACC 21650T).We studied population genomics of 486 Neisseria meningitidis isolates causing meningitis in the Netherlands during the period 1979-2003 and 2006-2013 using whole-genome sequencing to evaluate the impact of a hyperendemic period of serogroup B invasive disease. The majority of serogroup B isolates belonged to ST-41/44 (41 %) and ST-32 complex (16 %). Comparing the time periods, before and after the decline of serogroup B invasive disease, there was a decrease of ST-41/44 complex sequences (P=0.002). We observed the expansion of a sub-lineage within ST-41/44 complex sequences being associated with isolation from the 1979-2003 time period (P=0.014). Isolates belonging to this sub-lineage expansion within ST-41/44 complex were marked by four antigen allele variants. Presence of these allele variants was associated with isolation from the 1979-2003 time period after correction for multiple testing (Wald test, P=0.0043 for FetA 1-5; P=0.0035 for FHbp 14; P=0.012 for PorA 7-2.4 and P=0.0031 for NHBA two peptide allele). These sequences were associated with 4CMenB vaccine coverage (Fisher's exact test, P less then 0.001). Outside of the sub-lineage expansion, isolates with markedly lower levels of predicted vaccine coverage clustered in phylogenetic groups showing a trend towards isolation in the 2006-2013 time period (P=0.08). In conclusion, we show the emergence and decline of a sub-lineage expansion within ST-41/44 complex isolates concurrent with a hyperendemic period in meningococcal meningitis. The expansion was marked by specific antigen peptide allele combinations. We observed preliminary evidence for decreasing 4CMenB vaccine coverage in the post-hyperendemic period.
High blood pressure is one of the leading preventable causes of cardiovascular death worldwide. In this regard, several studies have shown interest in the benefits of isometric exercise on blood pressure regulation.

To assess whether low-intensity isometric handgrip exercise (LI-IHE) is an effective strategy to lower blood pressure levels in prehypertensive and hypertensive patients.

This study was conducted according to the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) statement and registered with PROSPERO. Potentially eligible studies were identified after a systematic search conducted on 4 international databases PubMed, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), PEDro, and SPORTDiscus.

We included randomized controlled trials that comprised patients who received LI-IHE.

Data were gathered through seven groups with a sample of SGM-identified adults age 55 and over (N = 50) and analyzed using thematic analysis. The participants seek affordable and inclusive housing options. They identified that access to transportation is paramount in maintaining social support and accessing healthcare. Findings underscore the need for strategies to serve the housing needs of low-income SGM-identified older adults in a nondiscriminatory way, train housing providers in culturally responsive care, meet transportation needs, and provide SGM-inclusive community-based services that reduce isolation.
The treatment of trigeminal neuralgia (TN) involves first- and second-generation anticonvulsants. However, side effects (SEs) impair compliance with treatment, especially in elderly patients. Lacosamide (LCM) is a third-generation anticonvulsant with a mechanism of action that is not completely clear. It has few SEs and has been considered in the treatment of neuropathic pain.

LCM was prescribed as a monotherapy for a 60-year-old female with TN who had proven refractory to previous treatments in terms of both the absence of any pain relief and the appearance of severe leukopenia. The treatment dosage was 100 mg twice daily. Pain relief was obtained after three weeks of treatment without any SEs. Currently, the patient takes a maintenance dosage of 100 mg/daily, remaining in a state of complete well-being.

This study investigated the synergistic repair effects of Prontosan hydrogel and carbon photon therapy in a rat full-thickness wound model.

The wavelength distribution of the photon source was determined. Dehydration of the Prontosan hydrogel and fibroblast viability were analyzed following exposure to different durations of light exposure at different distances from the source. Indexes of wound healing in a full-thickness rat wound model were then determined in groups (
 = 8 each) subjected to either no treatment, Prontosan treatment only, carbon photon therapy only, or a combination of the two treatments (synergistic group).

Carbon photon exposure for 15 minutes at a distance of 20 cm from the wound was found to be optimal. Wound healing occurred faster in the synergistic group compared with the control and single-treatment groups. Growth factor secretion, granulation tissue formation, inflammation regulation, collagen deposition, and neovascularization were all higher in the synergistic group.

Prontosan hydrogel combined with carbon photon therapy may provide an optimal environment for wound healing and serve as a novel physical approach to the treatment of wounds. However, the number of animals included in this study was relatively small and a larger study is required to confirm these findings.

This study aimed to investigate application of the urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio (ACR), serum beta 2-microglobulin (β2-MG), and cystatin C as risk markers in a cohort of women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) for the incidence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM).

In this cross-sectional study, we analyzed 312 pregnant women with PCOS and classified them as those with and without GDM. For all participants, elbow venous blood and clean middle urine were collected in the morning after 8 hours of an empty stomach.

Logistic regression analysis showed that the ACR, urine β2-MG levels, and serum cystatin C levels were important markers for women with PCOS concomitant with GDM. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis showed that the area under the curve of CysC was 0.81 with the threshold based on >0.93 and that of β2-MG was 0.72 with the threshold based on >1.25.

Increased levels of β2-MG and cystatin C and a high ACR might be risk factors for Chinese women with PCOS and GDM during mid-pregnancy.
