31). There was no significant effect on decline in eGFR events (RR 0.34; 95% CI 0.09-1.23), proteinuria (standardized mean difference -0.32; 95% CI -1.08 to 0.43), all-cause mortality events (RR 0.90; 95% CI 0.40-2.02) and cardiovascular (CV) events (RR 1.03; 95% CI 0.32-3.37) compared with the control groups.
Based on the available and low-to-moderate certainty evidence, oral alkali drug therapy might potentially reduce the risk of kidney failure events, but no benefit in reducing all-cause mortality events, CV events, decline in eGFR and porteninuria.

The study sample consisted of 1884 volunteer undergraduate students from 58 different universities across Turkey. The data were collected online during distance education because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Turkish version of Morningness-Eveningness Questionnaire (MEQ) and Big16 Learning Modality Inventory were used for data collection. The correlation between chronotype and cumulative grade point average (CGPA) scores was analyzed using Spearman's rho, and differences among the chronotypes were analyzed with Kruskal-Wallis test. Chi-square tests with pairwise z-test were used to analyze the relationships between the participants' learning style preferences and chronotypes. Also, ANCOVA analyses were performed to evaluate the interactions of gender × chronotype and gender × learning style on CGPA scores. The results revealed that participants' preference for visual and auditory styles differed by chronotype. Visual learning style was more dominant among morning (M) types, while auditory style was more dominant among evening (E) types. However, the most preferred learning style was visual, followed by auditory and kinesthetic styles for all chronotypes. No relationship was found between chronotype and academic achievement. The CGPA scores of the participants with kinesthetic learning style were lower than the participants with auditory and visual learning styles. The female participants had higher CGPA score than males. However, the CGPA scores did not differ for both male and female participants with different chronotype and learning style preferences. From the results, we suggest that academic achievement can be enhanced by consideration of students' learning style preferences for all chronotypes. The function of long non-coding RNA LHFPL3 antisense RNA 1 (LHFPL3-AS1) in cancer progression has been studied, while its role in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) remains unclear. This study aims to unravel the effects of LHFPL3-AS1 on NPC progression via microRNA (miR)-143-5p/homeobox A6 (HOXA6) axis. NPC tissues were collected and NPC cells were cultured. NPC cells were subjected to radiation therapy to construct the radiation therapy resistance NPC cell line. The levels of LHFPL3-AS1, miR-143-5p and HOXA6 in NPC cells and tissues were examined. LHFPL3-AS1, miR-143-5p or HOXA6 expression was changed and then transfected into radiation-resistant NPC cells to detect cell proliferation, colony formation, migration, invasion and cell apoptosis in vitro. The tumorigenesis in nude mice in vivo was conducted to detect tumor growth. The targeting relations among LHFPL3-AS1, miR-143-5p and HOXA6 were validated. It was discovered that LHFPL3-AS1 and HOXA6 expression was elevated while the miR-143-5p level was depleted in radiation-resistant NPC cells and NPC tissues. The silenced LHFPL3-AS1 or augmented miR-143-5p repressed the proliferation, colony formation, migration and invasion of radiation-resistant NPC cells, while accelerated cell apoptosis in vitro. Silenced LHFPL3-AS1 hindered tumor growth in vivo. MiR-143-5p deletion reversed the effects of reduced LHFPL3-AS1; while HOXA6 upregulation reversed the effects of enriched miR-143-5p. LHFPL3-AS1 sponged miR-143-5p that targeted HOXA6. It is concluded that the down-regulated LHFPL3-AS1 retards the development of radiation-resistant NPC cells via sponging miR-143-5p to modulate HOXA6. This study reveals novel therapeutic targets for NPC treatment.Microbial surfactants are particularly useful in bioremediation and heavy metal removal from soil and aquatic environments, amongst other highly valued uses in different economic and biomedical sectors. Marine sponge-associated bacteria are well-known producers of bioactive compounds with a wide array of potential applications. However, little progress has been made on investigating biosurfactants produced by these bacteria, especially when compared with other groups of biologically active molecules harnessed from the sponge microbiome. Using a thorough literature search in eight databases, the purpose of the review was to compile the current knowledge on biosurfactants from sponge-associated bacteria, with a focus on their relevant biotechnological applications. From the publications between the years 1995 and 2021, lipopeptides and glycolipids were the most identified chemical classes of biosurfactants. Firmicutes was the dominant phylum of biosurfactant-producing strains, followed by Actinobacteria and Proteobacteria. Bioremediation led as the most promising application field for the studied surface-active molecules in sponge-derived bacteria, despite the reports endorsed their use as antimicrobial and antibiofilm agents. Finally, we appoint some key strategies to instigate the research appetite on the isolation and characterization of novel biosurfactants from the poriferan microbiome.Osteoporosis is a metabolic bone disease that significantly affects the quality of life and can even lead to death. In this study, we aimed to investigate the role of RAD51 recombinase (RAD51) in osteoblast and osteoclast differentiation. We analyzed differentially expressed genes using microarray analysis. The osteogenic differentiation capability was analyzed by alkaline phosphatase (ALP) staining and alizarin red staining assays. Osteogenesis and osteoclast related genes expression was detected using quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) and Western blotting. The phosphorylation of Ataxia-telangiectasia mutated (ATM) and ATR serine/threonine kinase (ATR) was tested using Western blotting. The effect of RAD51 on osteoporosis was also explored in vivo. The results showed that RAD51 was downregulated in osteoporosis, but upregulated in differentiated osteoblasts. Overexpression of RAD51 enhanced the differentiation of osteoblasts and suppressed the formation of osteoclasts. Furthermore, p-ATM and p-ATR levels were upregulated in osteoblasts and downregulated in osteoclasts. RAD51 expression was reduced by the ATM/ATR pathway inhibitor AZ20. AZ20 treatment inhibited osteoblastogenesis and promoted osteoclastogenesis, whereas RAD51 reversed the effects induced by AZ20. Moreover, RAD51 improved bone microarchitecture in vivo. Taken together, ATM/ATR signaling-mediated RAD51 promoted osteogenic differentiation and suppressed osteoclastogenesis. These findings reveal a critical role for RAD51 in osteoporosis.
Severe, cancer-related facial oedema can impair vision. It can result from lymphatic and/or venous obstruction due to disease and/or treatment related fibrosis. There is very limited data on the use of directly applied hypertonic packs for the relief of periorbital oedema.
A 63 year old man with recurrent laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma developed functional blindness secondary to periorbital oedema in the setting of severe facial swelling. This was refractory to maximal facial lymphatic massage available in the community setting.
Management dilemmas included what non-medical interventions may relieve his periorbital oedema and thereby restore his vision outside of daily lymphatic massage from a qualified physiotherapist.
The patient agreed to an initial dry hypertonic pack with a great functional improvement of his vision. He was taught how to do this so that he could repeat
.
The patient had previously expressed that his most distressing thought was the prospect of becoming functionally blind prior to dying. The provision of an easy additional therapy to relieve his visual obstruction provided him with much comfort. He passed away peacefully a few weeks later.
The case demonstrates that application of a dry hypertonic pack can relieve periorbital oedema in the setting of facial oedema in cases which are refractory to the combination of self-massage, cold-compress application, and daily lymphatic massage by a certified physiotherapist.

The current study explored the expression of OPA3 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), its association with the prognosis and its involvement in HCC cell proliferation and aerobic glycolysis. In addition, the transcription factors that activate its expression were screened and validated. Gene expression data in normal liver and liver cancer were acquired from the Genotype-Tissue Expression Project (GTEx) and The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA)-Liver Hepatocellular Carcinoma (TCGA-LIHC). Chromatin immunoprecipitation-seq data (GSM1010876) in Cistrome Data Browser was used for searching transcriptional factors binding to the OPA3 promoter. HCC cell lines HLF and JHH2 were used for in-vitro and in-vivo studies. Results showed that OPA3 is significantly upregulated in HCC and associated with unfavorable prognosis. OPA3 knockdown impaired HCC cell growth in vitro and in vivo. Besides, it decreased glucose uptake, lactate production, intracellular ATP levels, and extracellular acidification rate (ECAR) of HLF and JHH2 cells. MYB Proto-Oncogene Like 2 (MYBL2) can bind to the promoter of OPA3 and enhance its transcription. MYBL2 knockdown decreased aerobic glycolysis in HCC cells. OPA3 overexpression reversed these alterations. In conclusion, this study revealed a novel MYBL2-OPA3 axis that enhances HCC cell proliferation and aerobic glycolysis.Reperfusion therapy after acute myocardial infarction can induce myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI). Novel evidence has illustrated that N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification modulates the myocardial IRI progression. Here, our study focuses on the role of m6A methyltransferase fat mass and obesity-associated protein (FTO) in myocardial ischemia/reoxygenation injury and explores potential regulatory mechanisms. Results discovered that FTO down-expressed in myocardial IRI mice and hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R)-induced cardiomyocytes. Functionally, FTO overexpression attenuated the H/R-induced apoptosis and inflammation of cardiomyocytes. Mechanistically, methylated RNA immunoprecipitation quantitative polymerase chain reaction (MeRIP-qPCR) assay and RIP assay revealed that Yap1 mRNA acted as the target of FTO in cardiomyocytes. learn more Moreover, FTO uninstalled the methylation of Yap1 mRNA, and enforced the stability of Yap1 mRNA. Taken together, our study reveals the role of FTO in H/R-induced myocardial cell injury via m6A-dependent manner, which may provide a new approach to improve myocardial IRI.
