After adjustment for age, race, and metastatic stage, patients in Cohort C showed an improvement in OS and CSS compared with Cohort B (HR 0.94 (95% CI 0.91-0.97), p = 0.001; HR 0.89 (95% CI 0.85-0.92), p less then 0.001). Patients with M1c disease had a more pronounced improvement in OS and CSS compared with the other stages. No differences were found between Cohorts B and C. In conclusion, the real-world survival of de novo mPCa remains poor, with a median OS and CSS improvement of only 4 months in the latest years.
Obesity and excess body weight are significant epidemiological issues, not only because they are costly to treat, but also because they are among the leading causes of death worldwide. In 2016, an estimated 40% of the global population was overweight, reflecting the importance of the issue. Obesity is linked to metabolism malfunction and concomitantly with altered mineral levels in the body. In this paper, we review alterations in somatic levels of iron, calcium, magnesium, copper, iodine, chromium, selenium, and zinc in relation to excess body mass.
An electronic literature search was performed using PubMed. Our search covered original English research articles published over the past five years, culminating in 63 papers included for study.
The reviewed papers presented correlation between obesity and hypomagnesemia and hypozincemia. They also indicated that patients with excess body mass present increased body copper levels. Studies have similarly indicated that obesity appears to be associated with ladictory. Obesity coexists with disturbed calcium (Ca) signaling pathways. The association between obesity and body Ca levels has not been investigated in detail. In the last two decades, the zebrafish has emerged as an important model species for heart regeneration studies. Various approaches to model loss of cardiac myocytes and myocardial infarction in the zebrafish have been devised, and have included resection, genetic ablation, and cryoinjury. However, to date, the response of the zebrafish ventricle to cautery injury has not been reported. Here, we describe a simple and reproducible method using cautery injury via a modified nichrome inoculating needle as a probe to model myocardial infarction in the zebrafish ventricle. Using light and electron microscopy, we show that cardiac cautery injury is attended by significant inflammatory cell infiltration, accumulation of collagen in the injured area, and the reconstitution of the ventricular myocardium. Additionally, we document the ablation of cardiac nerve fibers, and report that the re-innervation of the injured zebrafish ventricle is protracted, compared to other repair processes that accompany the regeneration of the cauterized ventricle. Taken together, our study demonstrates that cautery injury is a simple and effective means for generating necrotic tissue and eliciting a remodeling and regenerative response in the zebrafish heart. This approach may serve as an important tool in the methods toolbox for regeneration studies in the zebrafish.Climate change and food security are critical topics in sustainable agricultural development. The climate-smart agriculture initiative proposed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has attracted international attention. Smart agriculture (SA) has since been recognized as an influential trend contributing to agricultural development. see more Therefore, encouraging farmers to adopt digital technologies and mobile devices in farming practices has become a policy priority worldwide. However, the literature on the psychological factors driving farmers' intentions to adopt SA technologies remains limited. This study investigated how farmers' knowledge and attitudes regarding SA affect their adoption of smart technologies in Taiwan. A total of 321 farmers participated in a survey in 2017 and 2018, and the data were used to construct an ordinary least squares regression model of SA adoption. This study provides a preliminary understanding of the relationship between psychological factors and innovation adoption of SA technologies in a small-scale farming economic context. The findings suggest that policymakers and research and development institutes should concentrate on improving market access to established and critical SA technologies.Glass or carbon fibers have been verified that can enhance the mechanical properties of the polymeric composite injection molding parts due to their orientation distribution. However, the interaction between flow and fiber is still not fully understood yet, especially for the flow-fiber coupling effect. In this study, we have tried to investigate the flow-fiber coupling effect on fiber reinforced plastics (FRP) injection parts utilizing a more complicated geometry system with three ASTM D638 specimens. The study methods include both numerical simulation and experimental observation. Results showed that in the presence of flow-fiber coupling effect, the melt flow front advancement presents some variation, specifically the "convex-flat-flat" pattern will change to a "convex-flat-concave" pattern. Furthermore, through the fiber orientation distribution (FOD) study, the flow-fiber coupling effect is not significant at the near gate region (RG). It might result from the strong shear force to repress the appearance of the flow-fiber interaction. However, at the end of filling region (ER), the flow-fiber coupling effect tries to diminish the flow direction orientation tensor component A11 and enhance the cross-flow orientation tensor component A22 simultaneously. It results in the dominance in the cross-flow direction at the ER. This orientation distribution behavior variation has been verified using a micro-computerized tomography (micro-CT) scan and image analysis technology. The proportion of women of reproductive age who are overweight or obese is increasing globally. Gestational obesity is strongly associated in both human studies and animal models with early-onset development of adult-associated metabolic diseases including metabolic syndrome in the exposed offspring. However, animal model studies have suggested that gestational diet in obese pregnancies is an independent but underappreciated mediator of offspring risk for later life metabolic disease, and human diet consumption data have highlighted that many women do not follow nutritional guidelines prior to and during pregnancy. Thus, this review will highlight how maternal diet independent from maternal body composition impacts the risk for later-life metabolic disease in obesity-exposed offspring. A poor maternal diet, in combination with the obese metabolic state, are understood to facilitate pathological in utero programming, specifically through changes in lipid handling processes in the villous trophoblast layer of the placenta that promote an environment associated with the development of metabolic disease in the offspring.
