Public policies and funding can support FNPs, but comprehensive data on the organizations that run FNPs, their program characteristics, or distribution across schools did not exist in NYC. This study aims to help local education and health agencies assess the characteristics of food and nutrition education in schools, as well as to measure progress implementing school policies and practices. A cross-sectional study on NYC FNPs was conducted during the 2016-2017 school year. Survey data on organizations and the FNPs they operate were collected. Data on schools in which FNPs operate were gathered. To determine distribution of FNPs across schools and by school demographics, the database of FNPs in schools was combined with a publicly available database of NYC schools. In 2016-2017, 40 organizations operated 101 FNPs in 56% of NYC public schools. These FNPs varied by goals, content, activities, location, and populations served. Information on these variations can help policymakers, advocates, funders, and schools expand school-based food and nutrition education. To ensure equitable access, more coordination, investment, and collaboration are needed.West Nile virus (WNV) and Usutu virus (USUV) are genetically related neurotropic mosquito-borne flaviviruses, which frequently co-circulate in nature. Despite USUV seeming to be less pathogenic for humans than WNV, the clinical manifestations induced by these two viruses often overlap and may evolve to produce severe neurological complications. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of WNV and USUV infection on human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived neural stem cells (hNSCs), as a model of the neural progenitor cells in the developing fetal brain and in adult brain. Zika virus (ZIKV), a flavivirus with known tropism for NSCs, was used as the positive control. Infection of hNSCs and viral production, effects on cell viability, apoptosis, and innate antiviral responses were compared among viruses. WNV displayed the highest replication efficiency and cytopathic effects in hNSCs, followed by USUV and then ZIKV. In these cells, both WNV and USUV induced the overexpression of innate antiviral response genes at significantly higher levels than ZIKV. Expression of interferon type I, interleukin-1β and caspase-3 was significantly more elevated in WNV- than USUV-infected hNSCs, in agreement with the higher neuropathogenicity of WNV and the ability to inhibit the interferon response pathway.Ionizing radiation creates free radicals, the effect of which is enhanced by the presence of oxygen; a low oxygen level produces radioprotective effects for insects compared with irradiation in ambient air. Modified (controlled) atmosphere packaging is used for maintaining quality and shelf-life extension; therefore, treatment efficacy may be affected, and there is a need to determine the critical O2 levels that may cause radioprotective effects. Late third-instar Bactrocera dorsalis (Hendel) larvae were irradiated in bags filled with ambient or low-oxygen air (0%, 2%, 4%, 6%, 8% O2) and were exposed to radiation doses of 8 to 64 Gy with intervals of 8 Gy. Efficacy was measured by the prevention of adult emergence. Dose-response data on mortality (failure of adult emergence) were analyzed via two-way ANOVA (analysis of variance), ANCOVA (analysis of covariance), and probit regression. The difference in radiotolerance was only significant in 0% O2 atmospheres through two-way ANOVA; therefore, the 95% confidence limits (CLs) of lethal dose ratios at LD99 were used to determine significant differences between treatments at different O2 levels. The differences in radiotolerance were significant in 0% and 2% O2 but insignificant in 4%, 6%, and 8% O2 environments when compared with radiation in ambient air. The critical threshold of radioprotective effects for late third-instar B. dorsalis larvae is an O2 level of ≥4% and less then 6%, but a maximum radiation dose of 14 Gy can compensate for this effect during phytosanitary irradiation treatment.Since the discovery of high abundances of virus-like particles in aquatic environment, emergence of new analytical methods in microscopy and molecular biology has allowed significant advances in the characterization of the femtoplankton, i.e., floating entities filterable on a 0.2 µm pore size filter. The successive evidences in the last decade (2010-2020) of high abundances of biomimetic mineral-organic particles, extracellular vesicles, CPR/DPANN (Candidate phyla radiation/Diapherotrites, Parvarchaeota, Aenigmarchaeota, Nanoarchaeota and Nanohaloarchaeota), and very recently of aster-like nanoparticles (ALNs), show that aquatic ecosystems form a huge reservoir of unidentified and overlooked femtoplankton entities. The purpose of this review is to highlight this unsuspected diversity. Herein, we focus on the origin, composition and the ecological potentials of organic femtoplankton entities. Particular emphasis is given to the most recently discovered ALNs. Leucine-enriched essential amino acids (LEAAs) are reported to stimulate the muscle anabolic response at a lower dose than whey protein. However, little is known regarding the effect of LEAA supplementation on the resistance exercise-induced responses of the anabolic and catabolic systems. Here, we conducted a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group comparison trial to investigate the effect of LEAA supplementation on mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1), the ubiquitin-proteasome system and inflammatory cytokines after a single bout of resistance exercise in young men. A total of 20 healthy young male subjects were supplemented with either 5 g of LEAA or placebo, and then they performed 10 reps in three sets of leg extensions and leg curls (70% one-repetition maximum). LEAA supplementation augmented the phosphorylation of mTORSer2448 (+77.1%, p less then 0.05), p70S6KThr389 (+1067.4%, p less then 0.05), rpS6Ser240/244 (+171.3%, p less then 0.05) and 4EBP1Thr37/46 (+33.4%, p less then 0.05) after resistance exercise. However, LEAA supplementation did not change the response of the ubiquitinated proteins, MuRF-1 and Atrogin-1 expression. Additionally, the mRNA expression of IL-1β and IL-6 did not change. These data indicated that LEAA supplementation augments the effect of resistance exercise by enhancing mTORC1 signal activation after exercise.
To compare the clinical, serological and histologic features between male and female patients with Sjögren's syndrome (SS) and explore the potential effect of gender on lymphoma development.

From a multicenter population (Universities of Udine, Pisa and Athens, Harokopion and Ioannina (UPAHI)) consisting of consecutive SS patients fulfilling the 2016 ACR/EULAR criteria, male patients were identified, matched and compared with female controls. Data-driven multivariable logistic regression analysis was applied to identify independent lymphoma-associated factors.

From 1987 consecutive SS patients, 96 males and 192 matched female controls were identified and compared. Males had a higher frequency of lymphoma compared to females (18% vs. 5.2%, OR = 3.89, 95% CI 1.66 to 8.67;
= 0.0014) and an increased prevalence of serum anti-La/SSB antibodies (50% vs. 34%, OR = 1.953, 95% CI 1.19 to 3.25;
= 0.0128). No differences were observed in the frequencies of lymphoma predictors between the two genders. Data-driven multivariable logistic regression analysis revealed negative association of the female gender with lymphoma and positive association with lymphadenopathy.

This ability is closely related to the perfect balance between the pluripotency-related genes, which control stem-cell proliferation, and genes able to orchestrate the appearance of a specific phenotype. Here we studied the expression of stemness-related genes, epigenetic regulators (DNMT1, SIRT1), miRNAs (miR-145, miR-148, and miR-185) related to stemness, exosomes, the cell-cycle regulators p21 (WAF1/CIP1) and p53, and the senescence-associated genes (p16, p19, and hTERT). Cells were cultured in the presence or absence of the human hepatocarcinoma cell line HepG2-exhausted medium, to evaluate changes in stemness, differentiation capability, and senescence sensibility. Our results showed the overexpression of SIRT1 and reduced levels of p21 mRNA. Moreover, we observed a downregulation of DNMT1, and a simultaneous overexpression of Oct-4 and c-Myc.
