Raman is an important tool for diagnosing minerals in geoscience. However, smaller magnification of optical microscope assembled in conventional Raman spectroscopy limits the application of Raman in sub-micro and nano scale. Raman imaging and scanning electron microscopy (RISE) combine the advantage of scanning electron microscope and Raman spectroscopy, which can collect the morphology, composition, and structure information in the same micro region of the geological sample in situ. In this paper, we introduce the development and working mechanism of RISE, and carried out some typical applications in different research of geoscience. The purpose of this review is to allow readers to understand the basic principles and application potential of RISE in geoscience. Finally, we briefly point out current challenges faced by this technology and some research directions in the future. HIGHLIGHTS Raman imaging and scanning electron microscopy as potential method was proposed for the research on geosciences. Common polymorphism and isomorphism were distinguished clearly in situ. A new research route for tiny inclusion and organic matter in situ was developed.SARS-CoV-2 and dengue virus co-infection cases have been on the rise in dengue-endemic regions as coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) spreads over the world, posing a threat of a co-epidemic. The risk of comorbidity in co-infection cases is greater than that of a single viral infection, which is a cause of concern. Although the pathophysiologies of the two infections are different, the viruses have comparable effects within the body, resulting in identical clinical symptoms in the case of co-infection, which adds to the complexity. Overlapping symptoms and laboratory features make proper differentiation of the infections important. However, specific biomarkers provide precise results that can be utilised to diagnose and treat a co-infection, whether it is simply COVID-19, dengue, or a co-infection. Though their treatment is distinguished, it becomes more complicated in circumstances of co-infection. As a result, regardless of whatever infection the first symptom points to, confirmation diagnosis of both COVID-19 and dengue should be mandatory, particularly in dengue-endemic regions, to prevent health deterioration in individuals treated for a single infection. There is still a scarcity of concise literature on the epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, therapy, and management of SARS-CoV-2 and dengue virus co-infection. The epidemiology of SARS-CoV-2 and dengue virus co-infection, the mechanism of pathogenesis, and the potential impact on patients are summarised in this review. The possible diagnosis with biomarkers, treatment, and management of the SARS-CoV-2 and dengue viruses are also discussed. This review will shed light on the appropriate diagnosis, treatment, and management of the patients suffering from SARS-CoV-2 and dengue virus co-infection.
Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second-most common degenerative neurologic disease worldwide. Overactive bladder (OAB) is prevalent in this population but can be challenging to treat. Sacral neuromodulation (SNM) is an attractive option but remains understudied. We have utilized SNM in PD patients and herein describe our outcomes.

We performed a retrospective chart review of PD patients who underwent peripheral nerve evaluation (PNE) or Stage 1 SNM from 2000 to 2020. The primary outcome was progression to a permanent implant. The impact of PD stage and preprocedural urodynamic (UDS) parameters on test-phase outcome were investigated. Long-term efficacy was assessed using Wilcoxon matched-pairs test looking at a change in urinary symptoms (frequency, nocturia, incontinence episodes, and pad use) documented at follow-up visits and further need for treatment.

Thirty-four patients underwent test phase SNM (7 PNE and 27 Stage 1). Median follow-up was 11 (interquartile range 5.8-29.8) months. Indications included refractory OAB (30/34) and nonobstructive urinary retention (4/34). Overall, 82% (28/34) of patients proceeded to a permanent implant. 71% (5/7) of PNEs were successful. Test-phase success did not differ based on PD disease severity or UDS parameters. In patients with OAB/urgency incontinence who progressed to the permanent implant, there was a statistically significant improvement in their urinary symptoms from baseline. Most (68%) patients were able to discontinue OAB medications post-implant. The overall lead revision rate was 14% (4/28) and 3 devices required removal.

SNM is an efficacious treatment option for PD patients with a high percentage of patients having improvement in their urinary symptoms.

Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is a lung cancer subtype with poor prognosis. We investigated the prognostic value of methylation- and homologous recombination deficiency (HRD)-associated gene signatures in LUAD.

Data on RNA sequencing, somatic mutations, and methylation were obtained from TCGA database. HRD scores were used to stratify patients with LUAD into high and low HRD groups and identify differentially mutated and expressed genes (DMEGs). Pearson correlation analysis between DMEGs and methylation yielded methylation-associated DMEGs. Cox regression analysis was used to construct a prognostic model, and the distribution of clinical features in the high- and low-risk groups was compared.

Patients with different HRD scores showed different DNA mutation patterns. There were 272 differentially mutated genes and 6294 differentially expressed genes. dcemm1 mouse Fifty-seven DMEGs were obtained; the top 10 upregulated genes were COL11A1, EXO1, ASPM, COL12A1, COL2A1, COL3A1, COL5A2, DIAPH3, CAD, and SLC25A13, while the tare needed to elucidate their roles in LUAD carcinogenesis.
To understand the magnitude of risk of health events, such as cardiovascular diseases (CVD), related to poor oral health, both relative and absolute risk measures should be reported. Our aim was to investigate the extent to which absolute and relative measures of risk are reported in longitudinal studies that assess the association between oral health indicators (OHIs) and CVD.

A systematic search of longitudinal studies investigating the association of any OHI with CVD was carried out using the Embase, Medline and Cochrane library databases. The search covered each database from its inception date to August 2021. Data about reporting relative and absolute risks of the relationship between CVD and OHI from the abstract were extracted. If the relative risk for OHIs and CVD was reported in the abstract, then the underlying absolute risks were searched from the full text, and it was assessed whether it was similarly adjusted for confounding than was the relative risk in the abstract.

One hundred-six articls could lead to an overinterpretation of risk increase of CVD related to poor oral health.
Focusing on relative risks over absolute risks was a common practice in literature. Reporting similarly adjusted underlying absolute risks of relative risks was rare in most studies, despite those being helpful for comprehending the magnitude of CVD-risk increase related to poor oral health. Current reporting practices could lead to an overinterpretation of risk increase of CVD related to poor oral health. There are parallels between the history of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) and liver transplantation. Both have been established and advanced by innovative individuals, often going against perceived wisdom and convention. Liver Transplantation has traditionally been considered too complex for ERAS pathways, despite a small number of trials showing them to be both safe and of benefit. To date, there are very few randomized controlled trials and cohort studies publishing outcomes on liver transplant patients enrolled in comprehensive ERAS pathways. To progress our field, the 2022 International Liver Transplantation Society's Consensus Conference has created expert panels to analyze the evidence in 32 domains of the liver transplantation pathway using the GRADE (Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluations) approach to generate expert recommendations. These recommendations will be voted on by the international community to gain consensus using the Danish model, and create the ERAS4OLT.org Enhanced Recovery after Liver Transplantation Pathway. To compare and contrast pregnant, Black women's voices with quantitative measures of racial residential segregation, neighborhood disorder, and racial discrimination.

Using a convergent design for the parent study, surveys and qualitative interviews were completed by Black pregnant women (n=27).

Content analysis was conducted and data were analyzed to assess for congruency or divergence for each concept related to structural racism (racial residential segregation, neighborhood disorder, and discrimination).

No single concept had 100% agreement across qualitative and quantitative approaches. Participants disclosed experiences during some interviews that were not captured by the surveys. The qualitative interviews offered a more detailed description of the concepts which along with the quantitative measures, provided insights about how participants perceived these mechanisms.

While important relationships about the mechanisms of structural racism and preterm birth can be examined using a single approach, using mixed methods can offer more insights about how those most impacted by preterm birth relate to these mechanisms. Future work will best add to the understanding of structural racism and preterm birth when study measures accurately reflect the experiences of the people who experience racism.

Genes and enzymes generating the SGA precursor pathway, SGA scaffold and glycosylated forms have been largely identified. Yet, the majority of downstream metabolic steps creating the vast repertoire of SGAs remain untapped. Here, we discovered that members of the 2-OXOGLUTARATE-DEPENDENT DIOXYGENASE (2-ODD) family play a prominent role in SGA metabolism, carrying out three distinct backbone-modifying oxidative steps in addition to the three formerly reported pathway reactions. The GLYCOALKALOID METABOLISM34 (GAME34) enzyme catalyses the conversion of core SGAs to habrochaitosides in wild tomato S. habrochaites. Cultivated tomato plants overexpressing GAME34 ectopically accumulate habrochaitosides. These habrochaitoside enriched plants extracts potently inhibit Puccinia spp. spore germination, a significant Solanaceae crops fungal pathogen. Another 2-ODD enzyme, GAME33, acts as a desaturase (via hydroxylation and E/F ring rearrangement) forming unique, yet unreported SGAs.
