Reduced exercise capacity in patients with heart failure (HF) could be partially explained by skeletal muscle dysfunction. We compared skeletal muscle function, structure, and metabolism among clinically stable outpatients with HF with preserved ejection fraction, HF with reduced ejection fraction, and healthy controls (HC). This study aimed to examine participants' experiences of interpersonal and social rhythm therapy, with or without cognitive remediation, and the impact of this intervention on their functioning.

This qualitative study drew data from follow-up interviews of 20 participants who completed the 12-month intervention as part of a randomized controlled trial. The qualitative data were collected through semistructured interviews and were analyzed with thematic analysis.

The 20 participants (11 men, 9 women, ages 22-55, median age=32) reported that interpersonal and social rhythm therapy (content and process) as an adjunct to medication, alone or in combination with cognitive remediation, was effective in improving their functioning. They described these improvements as facilitated by a new sense of control and confidence, ability to focus, new communication and problem-solving skills, and better daily routines.

Participants with recurrent mood disorders described improved functioning related to therapies thatses on communication and problem-solving skills, and engenders a sense of hope by working with the person to develop self-management strategies relevant to their specific symptom experiences and the life they choose to live.
Diabetic nephropathy is one of the most common microvascular complications in patients with diabetes. MicroRNA (miRNA, miR) is closely related to the formation, development and pathophysiology of diabetic nephropathy. We aimed to investigate whether miR-193a-3p could be used as a potential biomarker for the diagnosis of diabetic nephropathy.

Plasma samples were collected from all the participants. Cyclopamine TaqMan Low Density Array analysis was employed to obtain the miRNA profiles of plasma samples, and qRT-PCR was used to confirm the result. Receiver operating characteristic curves were employed to evaluate the specificity and sensitivity of miR-193a-3p for predicting diabetic nephropathy.

The expression of miR-193a-3p and miR-320c was elevated and miR-27a-3p was decreased in diabetic nephropathy patients compared to patients with type 2 diabetes and healthy controls. We found that, in diabetic nephropathy patients, the elevated miR-193a-3p expression had a negative correlation with the level of evaluate glomerular filtration rate, while a positive correlation with the level of proteinuria. We further demonstrated that miR-193a-3p could be employed to distinguish patients with diabetic nephropathy. The Kaplan-Meier analysis showed that the high expression of miR-193a-3p significantly shortened the dialysis-free survival of diabetic nephropathy patients.

In conclusion, miR-193a-3p is involved in diabetic nephropathy pathogenesis and may serve as a potentially novel diagnostic biomarker for diabetic nephropathy.

In vitro activities against the chloroquine-resistant Plasmodium falciparum K1 strain were assessed by using the Plasmodium lactate dehydrogenase enzyme (pLDH) assay, while in vivo activity against the Plasmodium berghei ANKA strain in mice was investigated using a 4-day suppressive test. The in vitro and in vivo toxicity were determined in Vero cells and mice, respectively. The ethanolic extract possessed antimalarial activity with an IC50 of 24.49 ± 0.01 µg/ml, whereas the aqueous extract showed an IC50 of 549.30 ± 0.07 µg/ml. Cytotoxic analyses of the ethanolic and aqueous extracts revealed a nontoxic effect on Vero cells at a concentration of 80 µg/ml. Based on a preliminary study of in vitro antimalarial activity, the ethanolic extract was chosen as a potential agent for further in vivo antimalarial activity analysis in mice. The ethanolic extract, which showed no toxic effect on mice at a dose of 2000 mg/kg body weight, significantly suppressed parasitemia in mice by 38.41%, 45.12% and 89.00% at doses of 200, 400 and 600 mg/kg body weight, respectively. In conclusion, this study shows that the ethanolic P. cablin extract possesses in vitro and in vivo antimalarial activity without toxic effects.Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), the most aggressive subtype, does not respond to targeted therapy due to the lack of hormone receptors. There is an urgent need for alternative therapies, including natural product-based anti-cancer drugs, at lower cost. We investigated the impact of a Calligonum comosum L'Hér. methanolic extract (CcME) on the TNBC MDA-MB-231 cell line proliferation and related cell death mechanisms performing cell viability and cytotoxicity assays, flow cytometry to detect apoptosis and cell cycle analysis. The apoptosis-related protein array and cellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) assay were also carried out. We showed that the CcME inhibited the TNBC cell viability, in a dose-dependent manner, with low cytotoxic effects. The CcME-treated TNBC cells underwent apoptosis, associated with a concomitant increase of apoptosis-related protein expression, including cytochrome c, cleaved caspase-3, cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor p21, and the anti-oxidant enzyme catalase, compared with the untreated cells. The CcME also enhanced the mitochondrial transition pore opening activity and induced G0/G1 cell growth arrest, which confirmed the cytochrome c release and the increase of the p21 expression detected in the CcME-treated TNBC cells. The CcME-treated TNBC cells resulted in intracellular ROS production, which, when blocked with a ROS scavenger, did not reduce the CcME-induced apoptosis. In conclusion, CcME exerts anti-proliferative effects against TNBC cells through the induction of apoptosis and cell growth arrest. In vivo studies are justified to verify the CcME anti-proliferative activities and to investigate any potential anti-metastatic activities of CcME against TNBC development and progression.
To identify factors associated with work productivity in adults with migraine, and accommodations or interventions to improve productivity or the workplace environment for them.

We conducted a scoping review by searching MEDLINE, Embase, PsycINFO, Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Heath Literature, and Web of Science from their inception to 14 October 2019 for studies of any design that assessed workplace productivity in adults with migraine.

We included 26 articles describing 24 studies after screening 4139 records. Five prospective cohort studies showed that education on managing migraine in the workplace was associated with an increase in productivity of 29-36%. Two studies showed that migraine education and management in the workplace were associated with increased productivity (absenteeism decreased by 50% in one study). One prospective cohort study showed that occupational health referrals were associated with more than 50% reduction in absenteeism. Autonomy, social support, and job satisfaction were positively associated with productivity, while quantitative demands, emotional demands, job instability, and non-conducive work environment triggers are negatively associated with productivity in workers with migraine.

Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) and functional nasal airway obstruction are common but distinct medical problems which affect quality of life. In certain instances, patients often benefit from concomitant functional septorhinoplasty, or elect for cosmetic rhinoplasty, in addition to functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) and prefer combining procedures. Determining outcomes of combined surgery is important when discussing risks and benefits with patients.

A thorough literature search of articles published in PubMed, Ovid MEDLINE, and Cochrane databases. Patients were categorized as either having FESS or rhinoplasty alone or combined. Binary random-effects models were applied to calculate odds ratios (ORs) for outcomes including complications, recurrence, and satisfaction.

Of the 55 screened articles, 6 were included in the analysis, and of these, 6 (405 patients), 2 (90 patients), 4 (290 patients), and 3 (190 patients) provided data for postoperative complications, recurrence of CRS symptoms, revision cases compared to stand-alone rhinoplasty. There appears to be no significant difference in recurrence of symptoms, revision rates or patient satisfaction.
To analyze the effect of benralizumab in severe eosinophilic asthma (SA) and chronic rhinosinusitis with polyps (CRSwP).

Retrospective review of patients with
SA and CRSwP that were treated with benralizumab. Asthma controlled test (ACT), pulmonary function metrics (FEV1), Meltzer endoscopic polyp scores, SNOT-22 scores, were collected before and after at least 4 months of benralizumab therapy.

23 patients were included.
