Worldwide epidemic regarding Trichomonas vaginalis among feminine sex workers: an organized assessment and meta-analysis.
This study explored whether the psychological composition of a group, with respect to mood, catastrophising, fear of movement and pain self-efficacy characteristics at baseline, is associated with individuals' treatment outcomes following group cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)-based programmes for chronic pain. Retrospective analyses of outcomes from two independently run CBT-based pain management programmes (Programme A N = 317 and Programme B N = 693) were conducted. Mixed modelling analyses did not consistently support the presence of associations between group median scores of depression, catastrophising or fear avoidance with outcomes for individuals in either programme. These results suggest that the psychological profiles of groups are not robust predictors of individual outcomes in CBT groups for chronic pain. By implication, efforts made to consider group composition with respect to psychological attributes may be unnecessary.
To evaluate the feasibility of sensory mapping of lumbar facet joint pain in patients scheduled to undergo radiofrequency (RF) denervation.

Prospective cohort study.

University teaching hospital.

A total of 15 participants listed for RF denervation of lumbar facet joint.

After written informed consent, participants were recruited to the study. Participants completed a pain diagram prior to their procedure. After successful image-guided placement of RF cannulas, the sensory detection threshold using 50 Hz stimulation was obtained, followed by application of suprathreshold stimulation. Participants mapped their stimulated area in comparison to their pre-procedure pain diagram.

All 15 participants had previously undergone diagnostic blocks. All participants were able to report either pain or paraesthesia during suprathreshold stimulation. In total, 14 out of 15 participants reported complete coverage of their usual painful area with suprathreshold stimulation of nerves scheduled for RF denervation. In one of the participants, an area of upper lumbar pain was not covered during suprathreshold stimulation. Nearly two-thirds of the participants (n = 9), reported either pain or paraesthesia, outside their normal painful area during suprathreshold stimulation. A total of 71 nerves were scheduled for RF denervation. Sensory electrical stimulation was successfully achieved in 68 out of 71 nerves (96%). The average sensory detection threshold was found to be 0.3 V while the suprathreshold stimulation was 0.6 V.

Lumbar facet joint pain can be mapped using suprathreshold sensory stimulation, which has the potential to introduce objectivity during RF denervation.

The aim of this study is to explore the effectiveness of a training programme aimed at managing patients' chronic pain in physiotherapy students in Spain. The programme addressed providing them with efficient skills to manage patients' chronic pain from psychological flexibility (PF) perspective.

The programme integrates communication skills training into PF-based training. It sought to contribute to better recognise the role of psychosocial factors in chronic pain and to better promote adherence to treatment. This is an observational study with a pre- and post-training programme design and a 2-month follow-up. A total of 35 physiotherapy students, divided into three groups, participated in a 10-hour training course. Training focused on three areas (1) communication skills, (2) therapeutic adherence and (3) managing distress and pain. The three areas were addressed from the PF point of view. Impact of training was measured through standardised questionnaires that assessed attitudes towards chronic pain, an ad hoc questionnaire that assessed responses to difficult communicative situations and a training satisfaction scale.

Final analyses showed that attitudes changed significantly after training, biomedical attitude scores decreased and biopsychosocial attitude increased, while pain was considered less disabling, and informed empathic responses in communication situations increased. These changes were maintained at 2-month follow-up. Satisfaction with the training was high.

We conclude that a brief training programme based on the PF model may help students develop a more comprehensive approach and improve their skills for managing chronic pain.

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS)/Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) and fibromyalgia (FM) are both debilitating syndromes with complex polysymptomatology. GSK2837808A Early research infers that a relationship may exist even though the diagnosis provided may influence the management trajectory. In the absence of a diagnostic test and treatment, this study aims to confirm the symptoms and their severity, which may infer a relationship and influence future research.

A quasi-experimental design was utilised, using Internet-based self-assessment questionnaires focusing on nine symptom areas criteria, pain, sleep, fatigue, anxiety and depression, health-related quality of life, self-esteem and locus of control. The questionnaires used for data collection are as follows the American Centre for Disease Control and Prevention Symptom Inventory for CFS/ME (American CDC Symptom Inventory); the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) Criteria for FM; Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ); McGill Pain Questionnaire (MPQ); Multidimensi, with the exception of anxiety and depression, impacting on their quality of life. Results suggest a relationship between CFS/ME and FM, indicating the requirement for future research.Owing to the lack of longitudinal studies in Latin American countries, we aimed to evaluate back pain and its risk factors in a 3-year longitudinal study of Brazilian adolescents. We analysed data of 525 adolescents (aged 11-16 years) attending primary school (fifth to eighth grade) in Brazil. The students were administered the self-reported Back Pain and Body Posture Evaluation Instrument (BackPEI) questionnaire in 2011 and at a follow-up evaluation that was conducted 3 years later (2014). Back pain was the outcome variable; the exposure variables included exercise, behavioural, hereditary and postural factors. Generalized estimating equations were used to perform a Poisson regression model with robust variance to evaluate the risk factors for back pain. The prevalence of back pain at baseline was 56% (n = 294); this increased significantly at the 3-year follow-up evaluation to 65.9% (n = 346). The frequency of experiencing back pain also significantly increased after 3 years in both boys (p = 0.002) and girls (p = 0.
