Conclusions While quantitative metrics of IED rate and ictal HGA, PHLG, and LFLL all accurately lateralize based on post-CC iEEG, only IED rate consistently did so based on pre-CC data. More work is needed to develop reliable techniques for high-frequency iEEG analysis.The aim was to compare the short and long-term effects of subthalamic nucleus (STN) deep brain stimulation (DBS) on gait dysfunction and other cardinal symptoms of Parkinson's disease (PD). Two groups of patients were studied. The first group (short-term DBS, n = 8) included patients recently implanted with STN DBS (mean time since DBS 15.8 months, mean age 58.8 years, PD duration 13 years); the second group (long-term DBS, n = 10) included patients with at least 5 years of DBS therapy (mean time since DBS 67.6 months, mean age 61.7 years, PD duration 17.1 years). Both groups were examined using the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) and Gait and Balance scale (GABS) during four stimulation/medication states (ON/OFF; OFF/OFF; OFF/ON; ON/ON). Data were analyzed using repeated measures ANOVA with time since implantation (years) between groups and medication or DBS effect (ON, OFF) within groups. In the short-term DBS group, stimulation improved all UPDRS subscores similar to dopaminergic medications. In particular, average gait improvement was over 40% (p = 0.01), as measured by the UPDRS item 29 and GABS II. In the long-term DBS group, stimulation consistently improved all clinical subscores with the exception of gait and postural instability. In these patients, the effect of levodopa on gait was partially preserved. Short-term improvement of gait abnormalities appears to significantly decline after 5 years of STN DBS in PD patients, while effectiveness for other symptoms remains stable. Progressive non-dopaminergic (non-DBS responsive) mechanisms or deleterious effects of high frequency STN stimulation on gait function may play a role.The importance of neurorehabilitation services for people with disabilities is getting well-recognized in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) recently. However, accessibility to the same has remained the most significant challenge, in these contexts. This is especially because of the non-availability of trained specialists and the availability of neurorehabilitation centers only in urban cities owned predominantly by private healthcare organizations. In the current COVID-19 pandemic, the members of the Task Force for research at the Indian Federation of Neurorehabilitation (IFNR) reviewed the context for tele-neurorehabilitation (TNR) and have provided the contemporary implications for practicing TNR during COVID-19 for people with neurological disabilities (PWNDs) in LMICs. Neurorehabilitation is a science that is driven by rigorous research-based evidence. The current pandemic implies the need for systematically developed TNR interventions that is evaluated for its feasibility and acceptability and that is informed by available evidence from LMICs. Given the lack of organized systems in place for the provision of neurorehabilitation services in general, there needs to be sufficient budgetary allocations and a sector-wide approach to developing policies and systems for the provision of TNR services for PWNDs. The pandemic situation provides an opportunity to optimize the technological innovations in health and scale up these innovations to meet the growing burden of neurological disability in LMICs. Thus, this immense opportunity must be tapped to build capacity for safe and effective TNR services provision for PWNDs in these settings.Alongside positive blood oxygenation level-dependent (BOLD) responses associated with interictal epileptic discharges, a variety of negative BOLD responses (NBRs) are typically found in epileptic patients. Previous studies suggest that, in general, up to four mechanisms might underlie the genesis of NBRs in the brain (i) neuronal disruption of network activity, (ii) altered balance of neurometabolic/vascular couplings, (iii) arterial blood stealing, and (iv) enhanced cortical inhibition. Detecting and classifying these mechanisms from BOLD signals are pivotal for the improvement of the specificity of the electroencephalography-functional magnetic resonance imaging (EEG-fMRI) image modality to identify the seizure-onset zones in refractory local epilepsy. This requires models with physiological interpretation that furnish the understanding of how these mechanisms are fingerprinted by their BOLD responses. Here, we used a Windkessel model with viscoelastic compliance/inductance in combination with dynamic modelinear models and biophysically inspired models.Background and Purpose Primary brain swelling occurs in aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) patients. The absence of a dynamic quantitative method restricts further study of primary brain swelling. This study compared differences in the change rate of brain volume (CRBV) between patients with and without primary brain swelling in the early stage of aSAH. Moreover, the relationship between CRBV and clinical outcomes was evaluated. Methods Patients hospitalized within 24 h after aSAH were included in this retrospective study. Utilizing a qualitative standard established before the study to recognize primary brain swelling through brain CT after aSAH, clinical outcomes after 3 months of SAH were evaluated with a modified Rankin scale (mRS). The brain volume (BV) of each patient was calculated with a semiautomatic threshold algorithm of 3D-slicer, and the change in brain volume (CIBV) was obtained by subtracting the two extreme values (CIBV = BVmax - BVmin). The CRBV can be used as a neuroimaging biomarker of early brain injury after bleeding and may be an effective predictor of patients' clinical prognoses.Objective Overactive bladder (OAB) is a disease characterized by the presence of urinary urgency. We carried out a meta-analysis to assess the effectiveness and safety of trigonal-involved injection of onabotulinumtoxinA (BoNT-A) in comparison with the trigonal-sparing technique in cases with OAB [neurogenic detrusor overactivity (NDO) and idiopathic detrusor overactivity (IDO)]. Methods Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of BoNT-A injection for OAB were searched systematically by using EMBASE, MEDLINE, and the Cochrane Controlled Trials Register. The datum was calculated by RevMan version 5.3.0. The original references of relating articles were also reviewed. Results In total, six RCTs involving 437 patients were included in our analysis. For OAB, the trigone-including group showed a different patient symptom score (p = 0.03), complete dryness rate (p = 0.002), frequency of incontinence episodes (p = 0.01), detrusor pressure at maximum flow rate (p = 0.01), and volume at the first desire to void (p = 0.0004) compared with the trigone-sparing group. Also, a trigone-including intradetrusor injection demonstrated a significant improvement in the patient symptom score (p = 0.0004), complete dryness rate (p = 0.0002), frequency of incontinence episodes (p = 0.0003), detrusor pressure at maximum flow rate (p = 0.01), and volume at the first desire to void (p = 0.00006) compared with the trigone-sparing group for treatment of NDO. The adverse events rates were similar in both groups. Moreover, a sense of control mediates these relationships. Both theoretical and practical implications are discussed.This study aims to investigate the current state of sustainability for the collaborative economy (CE). By utilizing the triple bottom line as a founding conceptual framework, the study summarizes and discusses the sustainability of the CE from three dimensions environment, economy, and society. The study further proposes some targeted measures and suggestions to measure the level of sustainability of the CE and CE platforms. The result shows that the CE has partially fulfilled some of its initial promises pertaining to sustainability, such as creating new job opportunities, economic growth, the efficient use of space and physical resources, as well as social mixing. However, the current sustainability benefits remain much smaller than some claim and hope for. Therefore, governments, platforms, and the public should work together to solve current challenges pertaining to the CE to tap its sustainability potential.
