With the influx of medical virtual reality (VR) technologies, cybersickness has transitioned from a nuisance experienced during leisure activities to a potential safety and efficacy concern for patients and clinicians. To improve health equity, it is important to understand any potential differences in cybersickness propensity among demographic groups, including racial groups.

This study aims to explore whether cybersickness propensity differs across racial groups.

We collected self-reported cybersickness ratings from 6 racially diverse independent samples within 1 laboratory group (N=931). In these studies, the participants were asked to perform tasks in VR such as traversing environments, pointing at and selecting objects, and interacting with virtual humans.

Significant racial differences in cybersickness were found in 50% (3/6) of studies. A mini meta-analysis revealed that, on average, Black participants reported approximately one-third of SD less cybersickness than White participants (Cohen d=-0.31; P<.001), regardless of the nature of the VR experience. There was no overall difference in reported cybersickness between the Asian and White participants (Cohen d=-0.11; P=.51).

Racial differences in cybersickness indicate that researchers, practitioners, and regulators should consider patient demographics when evaluating VR health intervention outcomes. These findings lay the groundwork for future studies that may explore racial differences in cybersickness directly.

We studied the effect of combined ARA+DHA supplementation during the suckling and weaning periods on OT and immune system development in Th2-skewed Brown Norway rat offspring.

Dams were fed ARA+DHA (0.45% ARA, 0.8% DHA wt/wt of total fat; n=10) as a suckling period diet (SPD) or control SPD (0% ARA, 0% DHA, n=8). The purpose of this study was to provide some definition of rupture repair in a cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for personality disorders, specifically how treatment tasks or goals are renegotiated.

Following a task analysis, a rational model was developed with the support of an expert panel. An empirical analysis was conducted on six CBT cases sampled from a clinical trial that included personality disordered patients and treatment adherent therapists. Two sessions from each case indicating rupture repair were selected, based on patient and therapist ratings of the Working Alliance Inventory-12 item version (WAI-12) and rupture presence. A qualitative analysis of the sessions was conducted with the support of the observer-based Rupture Resolution Rating System (3RS-2022).

The empirical analysis provided some support for many of the stages defined in the rational model, but less support for the hypothesized sequences of stages. A rational-empirical synthesis yielded a revised model that suggested therapists combine various strategies in rupture repair in a variety of ways, not necessarily in consistent sequences.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a major cause of liver diseases worldwide, and lifestyle and diet are significant factors in its development. Recent studies have suggested that dietary fat quality is associated with the development of NAFLD.

Our purpose was to investigate the cross-sectional and longitudinal associations of serum n-3 (ω-3) and n-6 (ω-6) PUFAs with NAFLD among middle-aged and older men and women from eastern Finland. We also investigated the associations of estimated Δ5-desaturase and Δ6-desaturase activities, enzymes involved in PUFA metabolism, with NAFLD.

After exclusions, the cross-sectional analyses included 1533 men examined in 1984-1989 and 674 men and 870 women examined in 1998-2001 in the Kuopio Ischaemic Heart Disease Risk Factor Study. The longitudinal analyses included 520 men examined in 1991-1993 and 301 men and 466 women examined in 2005-2008. Fatty liver index (FLI) was used as a surrogate for NAFLD. Hepatic steatosis was defined as FLI>60. ANCOVA and logis PUFAs and linoleic acid were associated with lower odds for future NAFLD.
Digital media use is prevalent among children and linked to potential developmental and health risks, but validated measures of children's digital media use are lacking. The aim of this study was to validate the Portuguese version of the ScreenQ with three distinct children's age groups.

Parents of children living in Portugal completed an online survey including the 16-item version of the ScreenQ and items related to home activities and digital media use. A combination of classical and modern theory (Rasch) methods was used for analysis.

A total of 549 mothers and 51 fathers of 325 girls and 322 boys from 6months to 9 years and 11months old responded to the survey. Point-measure correlations were all positive and endorsement of item values were within acceptable ranges. Cronbach's coefficient α was acceptable for a new measure, and test-retest reliability was high. Statistically significant correlations were found between ScreenQ total scores and relevant demographic, play-related, parenting and digital media use items.

The Portuguese version of the ScreenQ exhibited sound psychometric properties, including internal consistency and concurrent validity referenced to external items. Higher ScreenQ scores were correlated with higher digital media multitasking, lower parent-child interaction, and higher concerns regarding child's learning and behaviour.
