Murine xenograft model was constructed for the role of circ-RNF111 in vivo. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) was used for KLF12 level.
Circ-RNF111 was higher expressed in GC tissues and cells than normal tissues and cells. Silencing of circ-RNF111 restrained cell viability, colony formation, migration, invasion, cell cycle process and glycolysis and induced apoptosis in GC cells in vitro. Circ-RNF111 positively regulated KLF12 expression via absorbing miR-876-3p. MiR-876-3p downregulation reversed the impacts of circ-RNF111 silencing on GC cell malignant phenotypes. MiR-876-3p overexpression repressed GC cell growth, metastasis and glycolysis, inhibited apoptosis and arrested cell cycle, while KLF12 elevation weakened the effects. Besides, circ-RNF111 knockdown inhibited tumor growth in vivo.
Circ-RNF111 knockdown relieved the development of GC by regulating miR-876-3p/KLF12 axis.

South Africa faces a high burden of unmet contraceptive need, particularly among adolescent girls and young women. Providing contraception in community-based venues may overcome barriers to contraceptive access. Our objective was to explore the potential impact of the social environment and stylist-client interactions on perceived accessibility of contraceptives within hair salons.
We conducted 42 semi-structured, in-depth interviews with salon clients (100% identified as female, 100% identified as Black, median age 27.1years) and 6 focus groups with 43 stylists (95% identified as female, 98% identified as Black, median age 29.6years) in and around Umlazi Township, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal to explore perspectives on offering contraceptive services in hair salons. We used an inductive and deductive approach to generate the codebook, identified themes in the data, and then organized findings according to Rogers' Individual Adoption Model as applied to community-based health prevention programs. Twenty-five perof contraceptives through various adherence and support strategies. Some stylists and clients identified existing social barriers (e.g. confidentiality concerns) and made recommendations to strengthen potential contraceptive delivery in salons.
Stylists and clients were highly receptive to contraceptive delivery in salons and identified several social facilitators as well as barriers within this setting. Hair salons are community venues with a social environment that may uniquely mitigate barriers to contraceptive access in South Africa.

To assess the value of peptidoglycan recognition protein 2 (PGLYRP2) in assessing the disease activity and lipid metabolism in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
SLE patients with stable disease (n = 15), active lupus nephritis (LN) (n = 15) and neuropsychiatric systemic lupus erythematosus (NP-SLE) (n = 15) admitted to Northern Jiangsu People's Hospital (Jiangsu, China) in 2019-2020 were recruited. In addition, volunteers with matched age and sex (n = 15) were enrolled as controls. The level of PGLYRP2 in the serum and its expression in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were measured. The link between PGLYRP2 level and clinical parameters (including lipid profile) was described.
Serum PGLYRP2 level in SLE cases exceeded that in healthy volunteers (3938.56 ± 576.07 pg/mL), and significantly higher in active LN (5152.93 ± 446.13 pg/mL) and NP-SLE patients (5141.52 ± 579.61 pg/mL). As shown by quantitative real-time PCR results, the expression of PGLYRP2 in PBMCs of SLE patients wiE. PGLYRP2 could be used to predict SLE activity, dyslipidemia and cardiovascular disease risks in SLE patients.
Serum PGLYRP2 level significantly increases in SLE patients, and is positively correlated to SLEDAI. Moreover, serum PGLYRP2 level is correlated with renal damage parameters and the abnormal lipid profile of SLE. PGLYRP2 could be used to predict SLE activity, dyslipidemia and cardiovascular disease risks in SLE patients.
To establish a risk prediction model for pancreatic fistula according to the pancreatic fistula standards of the 2016 edition.
Clinical data from 223 patients with PD admitted to Tianjin Third Central Hospital from January 2016 to December 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. Patients were divided into modeling (January 2016 to December 2018) and validation (January 2019 to December 2020) sets according to the time of admission. The risk factors for postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) were screened by univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses, and a risk prediction model for POPF was established in the modeling set. This score was tested in the validation set.
Logistic regression analysis showed that the main pancreatic duct index and CT value were independent risk factors according to the 2016 pancreatic fistula grading standard, based on which a risk prediction model for POPF was established. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis showed that the area under the curve was 0.775 in the modeling set and 0.848 in the validation set.
The main pancreatic duct index and CT value of the pancreas are closely related to the occurrence of pancreatic fistula after PD, and the established risk prediction model for pancreatic fistula has good prediction accuracy.

People who experience non-fatal overdose (NFOD) are at high risk of subsequent overdose. compound library chemical With unprecedented increases in fentanyl in the US drug supply, many Massachusetts (MA) communities have seen a surge in opioid-related overdoses. The objective of this study was to determine factors associated with lifetime and past year NFOD in at-risk MA communities.
We conducted multiple rapid assessments among people who use drugs (PWUD) in eight MA communities using non-probability sampling (purposive, chain referral, respondent-driven) methods. We collected sociodemographic, substance use, overdose history, substance use treatment, and harm reduction services utilization data. We examined the prevalence of NFOD (lifetime and past year) and identified factors associated with NFOD through multivariable logistic regression analyses in a subset of 469 study participants between 2017 and 2019.
The prevalence of lifetime and last year non-fatal opioid overdose was 62.5% and 36.9%, respectively. Many of the study pareatment, and naloxone distribution.
With trends towards longer life expectancy, lifetime with disability has also been prolonged. It is increasingly recognized that not only the person with disability but also those around them are affected. The relationship between functional limitation (FL) of the older adults and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of their spouse is of interest. So too is the determination of the factors aside from FL that influence HRQoL.
The sample was derived from the 2013 National Health Service Survey conducted in Shaanxi Province in China. Married couples aged ≥ 60years were selected (n = 3463). The European quality of life five dimensions (EQ-5D) and visual analogue scale were used to measure HRQoL.
Both wife and husband reported lower HRQoL if either the male or female partner had some or serious FLs (P < 0.001). Other factors associated with lower HRQoL of the spouse included age, lower educational level, presence of chronic disease, and lower household economic status. Family size was associated with wife's HRQoL only when the male had no FL and lived with another 1-2 persons, or when the male had some FLs and lived in a larger family (n ≥ 5). Residential status did not relate to the HRQoL of spouses regardless of FL status.
Older adults in Shaanxi province who have partners with FLs tend to report poorer EQ-5D, suggesting that couples amongst whom one has FL may be particularly vulnerable to lower HRQoL.

Apart from maximizing functional abilities and independence after stroke, improving overall health-related quality of life (HRQoL) should also become part of the stroke treatment and rehabilitation process goals. This study aimed to assess the HRQoL profiles and explore the dimension-specific associated factors of HRQoL among stroke survivors.
This was a cross-sectional study of stroke survivors attending post-stroke care clinics in three public hospitals in the states of Pahang and Terengganu, Malaysia. The HRQoL was assessed by EuroQol-5 dimension-5 levels. Data on socio-demographic, clinical profiles, malnutrition risk, and physical activity level were collected through an interviewer-administered survey. Descriptive analyses for HRQoL profiles and multiple logistic regression analyses for its associated factors were performed. Crude and adjusted odds ratios were reported.
A total of 366 stroke survivors were recruited with a mean age of 59 ± 11years. The most -commonly reported health problems were rition screening, tailored program for speech therapy, prevention of recurrent stroke, and physical activity promotion should be addressed and further reinforced in current rehabilitation interventions to improve the HRQoL among stroke survivors in Malaysia.
Maresin-1 (MaR1) is an anti-inflammatory pro-resolving mediator and is considered a potential regulator of metabolic diseases. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a very common metabolic liver disease. However, little information is available on the relationship between MaR1 and NAFLD in humans. Therefore, the study explored the association between serum MaR1 levels and NAFLD.
A cross-sectional study was conducted in 240 Chinese people, including 116 non-NAFLD subjects and 124 NAFLD patients. Serum MaR1 levels were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The association between MaR1 and NAFLD was assessed.
Circulating MaR1 levels in NAFLD patients were markedly lower than those in non-NAFLD subjects (63.63 [59.87-73.93] vs 73.11 [65.12-84.50] pg/mL, P = 0.000). The percentages of patients with NAFLD gradually decreased with the increase of MaR1 quartiles (P < 0.001). Furthermore, serum MaR1 levels were positively associated with aspartate aminotransferase/alanine aminotransferase (AST/ALT), albumin, the albumin-globulin-ratio, and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) (all P < 0.05) and negatively associated with body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, hip circumference, the waist-to-hip ratio, ALT, gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT), uric acid, triglyceride (TG), and fasting blood glucose (FBG) (all P < 0.05) after adjusting for sex and age. Binary logistic regression analysis revealed that serum MaR1 levels were significantly associated with NAFLD.
Circulating MaR1 levels were decreased in patients with NAFLD, and a negative correlation was identified between NAFLD and serum MaR1 concentrations. Decreased MaR1 might be involved in the development of NAFLD.
