Artificial intelligence (AI) applications are growing in dental implant procedures. The current expansion and performance of AI models in implant dentistry applications have not yet been systematically documented and analyzed.

The purpose of this systematic review was to assess the performance of AI models in implant dentistry for implant type recognition, implant success prediction by using patient risk factors and ontology criteria, and implant design optimization combining finite element analysis (FEA) calculations and AI models.

An electronic systematic review was completed in 5 databases MEDLINE/PubMed, EMBASE, World of Science, Cochrane, and Scopus. A manual search was also conducted. Peer-reviewed studies that developed AI models for implant type recognition, implant success prediction, and implant design optimization were included. The search strategy included articles published until February 21, 2021. Two investigators independently evaluated the quality of the studies by applying the Joanna Boptimizing the implant design porosity, length, and diameter to improve the finite element calculations; or accurately determining the elastic modulus of the implant-bone interface.

AI models for implant type recognition, implant success prediction, and implant design optimization have demonstrated great potential but are still in development. Additional studies are indispensable to the further development and assessment of the clinical performance of AI models for those implant dentistry applications reviewed.

In the outbreak of COVID-19, coinfections and even superinfections in the background of SARS-CoV-2 viral infection have been reported. Such bacterial and fungal strains may be colonized in different tissues and organs, including the oral cavity. Whether infection with COVID-19 could increase colonization of different bacterial strains on removable dental prostheses is unclear.

The purpose of this clinical study was to compare bacterial colonization on removable dental prostheses in patients with COVID-19, before versus after diagnosis.

Despite therapeutic progress, less than half of hypertensive patients are controlled. The objective of this study was to examine the links between blood pressure control and socioeconomic factors.

We used data collected in the cardiology department of Sfax University Hospital as part of the Tunisian national hypertension registry. We studied the associations between the socio-economic variables (educational level, profession, medical insurance) and optimal blood pressure control (SBP<140mmHg and DBP<90mmHg) using logistic regression models.

The average age of our population was 65 and the sex ratio was 0.95. We found, as expected, the clinical and behavioral factors associated with a good blood pressure control, namely female sex, low-sodium diet, therapeutic compliance, and regular physical activity. However, obesity and an increased number of antihypertensive drugs have been associated with poor blood pressure control. The study of the effect of socio-economic variables on BP control finds a significant gradient against the most disadvantaged social categories for our three social variables in the univariate analysis. The inclusion of clinical and behavioral factors in the multivariate analysis attenuated these associations but did not fully explain them.

Ischemic heart disease with severe left ventricular systolic dysfunction is a poor prognosis. Coronary artery bypass grafting is the gold treatment in this population, despite high surgical risk.

The aim of our study is to evaluate the short- and long-term outcomes of coronary artery bypass grafting in patients with ischemic heart disease and severe left ventricular systolic dysfunction (LVEF≤35%).

Between May 1995 and December 2010, 171 patients with ischemic heart disease and severe left ventricular systolic dysfunction (LVEF≤35%) underwent isolated coronary artery bypass grafting. Hospital mortality, postoperative morbidity, all-cause death, cardiovascular death, and major adverse cardiovascular events (heart failure, recurrent angina, myocardial infarction, stroke) were evaluated. The mean follow-up was 9.3±5 years.

Hospital mortality was 9.9%. Postoperative morbidity was 36.9%. Overall survival at 1-, 5- and 10-years was 97.4%, 90.5% and 43.4%, respectively. Freedom from cardiovascular death at 1-, 5- and 10-years was 98.1%, 91.8% and 55.4%, respectively. Freedom from recurrent angina at 1-, 5- and 10-years was 95.5%, 84.8% and 44.9%, respectively. Freedom from heart failure at 1-, 5- and 10-years was 89.9%, 86,8% and 53.3%, respectively. Freedom from major adverse cardiovascular events at 1-, 5- and 10-years was 88%, 82.1% and 38.2%, respectively.

European Society for Medical Oncology Women for Oncology (ESMO W4O) research has previously shown under-representation of female oncologists in leadership roles. As early reports suggested disproportionate effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on women, the ESMO W4O Committee initiated a study on the impact of the pandemic on the lives of female and male oncologists.

A questionnaire was sent to ESMO members and put on the ESMO website between 8 June 2020 and 2July 2020. Questions focused on the working (hospital tasks, laboratory tasks, science) and home (household management, childcare, parent care, personal care) lives of oncologists during and after COVID-19-related lockdowns.

Of 649 respondents, 541 completed the questionnaire. Of these, 58% reported that COVID-19 had affected their professional career, 83% of whom said this was in a negative way (85% of women versus 76% of men).
