In this study, the effects of γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA)-rich sprouted adzuki beans on the glycolipid metabolism and gastrointestinal health were investigated in mice with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

Mice with T2DM were subjected to dietary intervention with different doses of GABA-rich sprouted adzuki beans for 6 consecutive weeks, during which growth indicators, glycolipid metabolism, and the composition and diversity of the gut microbiota changes were observed.

A high dietary intake of GABA-rich sprouted adzuki beans had a preventive effect against weight gain, significantly reduced serum levels of FBG, TG, and TC. Additionally, high dietary intake of GABA-rich sprouted adzuki beans increased the abundances of Firmicutes, Bacteroidetes, Verrucomicrobia, and Akkermansia, leading to a shift in the structure of the gut microbiota toward the dominance of probiotics with regulatory effects on glycolipid metabolism.

GABA-rich sprouted adzuki beans can effectively control the bodyweight of mice with T2DM, maintain a balanced blood glucose level, improve glycolipid metabolism and the changes in the microbiota may mediate the anti-diabetic effect of sprouted adzuki beans.

Gliomas are the most common primary intracranial tumors in adults. Inappropriate dietary habits are thought to be a risk factor for most human cancer, and glioma is no exception. However, the effect of dietary factors on glioma is not clear.

This review aims to quantitatively evaluate the association between various dietary intakes and glioma using a meta-analysis.

We searched articles on PubMed, the Cochrane Library, the Web of Science, and EMBASE from their inception until October 11, 2021. According to heterogeneity, the fixed-effects or random-effects model was selected to obtain the relative risk (RR) of merger. Based on the methods described by Greenland and Longnecker, we explored the dose-response relationship between dietary intakes and the risk of glioma. Subgroup analysis, sensitivity analysis, and publication bias were also used.

This study reviewed 33 articles, including 3,606,015 controls and 8,831 patients with glioma. This study included 12 food groups. Compared with the lowest intakes658.
Our analysis suggests that the intakes of tea, total vegetables, green vegetables, and orange vegetables may reduce the risk of glioma, while the intakes of grains, processed meats, and processed fish may increase the risk of glioma. Therefore, the effect of dietary factors on glioma should not be ignored.Systematic Review Registration https//www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero/, CRD42022296658.Flaxseed supplementation in diet of dairy cow can effectively enhance the production of ω-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFA) in raw milk, which further give rise to the changes of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). In this study, we used headspace-gas chromatography-ion mobility spectrometry (HS-GC-IMS) to investigate the VOCs in milk from cows fed three different diets (CK supplemented with 0 g/d flaxseed; WF 1,500 g/d whole flaxseed and GF 1,500 g/d ground flaxseed). A total of 40 VOCs including three acids, six esters, 11 aldehydes, seven alcohols, 13 ketones were identified in all the raw milk samples. Compared with GF supplementation, suppling with WF could influence more compounds in raw milk (GF five compounds; WF 22 compounds). Supplementation with WF could increase the concentration of nonanal, heptanal, hexanal, which could cause the occurrence of off-flavors, and reduce the concentration of hexanoic acid (monomer; M), 2-hexanol, ethanol (M), 2-heptanone (dimer; D), 2-pentanone (M), 2-pentanone (D), acetoin (M) in raw milk. GF supplementation in diet could reduce the 2-pentanone (M), 2-pentanone (D). In addition, principal component analysis (PCA) based on the signal intensity of identified VOCs indicated that it is possible to distinguish between the CK and WF milk. However, GF milk could not be distinguished from CK milk. The results demonstrate that compared with GF milk, WF supplementation in diet of dairy cows could increase fishy (heptanal) cardboard-like (pentanal) flavor in milk and decrease sweet (hexanoic acid, 2-heptanone), fruity (ethyl butanoate, ethyl hexanoate, 2-heptanone) flavor which may lead the milk less acceptable. In conclusion, compared with WF, GF supplementation in diet of dairy cow showed higher increase in n-3 PUFA in raw milk, and less influence in VOCs of raw milk and this study might provide theoretical supports for the production of milk rich in n-3 PUFA.
Due to the frequency of meal ingestion, individuals spend the majority of the day, ~18 h, in a status of post-prandial (PP) stress. Remnant-like lipoprotein particles (RLPs) are predominant in PP phase playing an important role in the development of atherosclerosis. Endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) have been suggested to play a role in vessel wall homeostasis and in reducing atherosclerosis. However, there is no information about peripheral blood EPCs number following PP stress. We investigated the association between circulating EPCs levels and extent of PP lipemia in healthy subjects following a high-fat meal.

A total of 84 healthy subjects (42 men, 42 women) aged 17-55 years were included in the study. PP lipemic response of subjects was determined by Oral Fat-Loading Test (OFLT). All the subjects were classified on the basis of their plasma TG levels after PP lipemic stressors in categories 1 (low), 2 (moderate), and 3 (high). Circulating EPCs numbers were measured by the flow cytometry method.

Tntly higher in the PP hyperlipidemia group than in the low TG levels category, independently from age (
< 0.05). Circulating EPC levels showed a positive correlation with OFLT response in men (
= 0.414,
< 0.05). Also, OFLT response showed a strong positive correlation with fasting TG levels (
= 0.930,
< 0.001). EPC levels in categories of women were not different.

Increased EPCs levels in subjects with different PP hyperlipidemia may be associated with a response to endothelial injury, related to increased atherogenic remnant particles at the PP phase.

In the present study, we used a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) study to identify the putative causal link between omega-3 and low back pain. A broadly used genome-wide association study (GWAS) (n = 8,866 individuals from European ancestry) was used to select plasma omega-3 genetic instrumental variables (IVs). A previously reported GWAS (4,863 cases and 74,589 controls from European ancestry) for low back pain were used to assess the effect of plasma omega-3 levels on low back pain. MR-egger_intercept, MR-PRESSO, MR_egger, and inverse variance weighted (IVW) in Cochran's Q-test were used to determine the pleiotropy and heterogeneity, respectively. MR-egger, weighted median, IVW, and weighted mode were used to perform MR analysis. Finally, the effect of a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) was used to test the SNP bias. We did not find a significant pleiotropy or heterogeneity of all six selected plasma omega-3 genetic IVs in low back pain GWAS. Expectedly, we found that as plasma omega-3 levels genetically increased, the risk of low back pain had a decreased trend using MR-egger (Beta = -0.593, p = 0.228; OR = 0.553) and weighted mode (Beta = -0.251, p = 0.281; OR = 0.778). click here This reduced trend was further proven by weighted median (Beta = -0.436, p = 0.025; OR = 0.646) and IVW (Beta = -0.366, p = 0.049; OR = 0.694). Our analysis suggested a putative causal link between genetically increased plasma omega-3 levels and the reduced risk of low back pain in European ancestries. Thus, the supplementation of omega-3 may be important for the prevention and treatment of low back pain.
Due to the high prevalence of malnutrition among hospitalized patients, screening and assessment of nutritional status should be routinely performed upon hospital admission. The main objective of this observational study was to evaluate the prevalence of and the risk for malnutrition, as identified by using three nutritional screening tests, and to observe whether some anthropometric and functional parameters used for nutritional evaluation were related to these test scores.

This single-center observational study included 207 patients admitted from the emergency department for hospitalization in either the internal medicine or surgery units of our institution from September 2017 to December 2018. The prevalence of malnutrition among this patient sample was evaluated by using the Nutritional Risk Screening (NRS-2002), the Subjective Global Assessment (SGA) and the Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) criteria. Body mass index (BMI), bioimpedance analysis (BIA), handgrip strength (HGS) and carecommended to facilitate early detection of changes in nutritional status.
The NRS-2002, the SGA and the GLIM criteria appear to be valuable tools for the screening and assessment of nutritional status. In particular, the lowest NRS-2002, SGA and GLIM scores were associated with the lowest PhA and CC. Nevertheless, a weekly re-evaluation of patients with better screening and assessment scores is recommended to facilitate early detection of changes in nutritional status.
Gestational weight gain (GWG) reflects maternal nutrition during pregnancy. However, the associations between maternal GWG and adverse birth outcomes are inconclusive.

We aimed to examine the associations between maternal GWG and adverse birth outcomes according to maternal pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI) categories in a large, multiethnic and diverse population in the U.S.

We used nationwide birth certificate data from the National Vital Statistics System to examine the association of GWG (below, within and above the Institute of Medicine [IOM] guidelines) with six adverse birth outcomes (preterm birth, low birthweight, macrosomia, small for gestational age [SGA], large for gestational age [LGA], and low Apgar score) according to the pre-pregnancy BMI categories (underweight to obesity grade 3). Multivariable logistic regression analyses were performed to estimate the odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs).

A total of 9,191,842 women aged 18-49 years at delivery with live singleton . Monitoring maternal GWG could enable physicians to provide tailored nutrition and exercise advice as well as prenatal care to pregnant women to reduce the likelihood of adverse birth outcomes.
Pregnant women with GWG below or above the IOM guidelines have increased odds of selected adverse infant birth outcomes. Monitoring maternal GWG could enable physicians to provide tailored nutrition and exercise advice as well as prenatal care to pregnant women to reduce the likelihood of adverse birth outcomes.
