Compared with a rigid-body robot, it is in general difficult to model and emulate the morphology dynamics of a soft continuum body. In addition, a soft continuum body potentially has an infinite degree of freedom, requiring considerable labor to manually annotate its dynamics from external sensory data such as video. In this study, we propose a novel noninvasive framework for automatically extracting the skeletal dynamics from video of a soft continuum body and show the applications and effectiveness of our framework. First, we demonstrate that our framework can extract skeletal dynamics from animal videos, which can be effectively utilized for the analysis of soft continuum body including animal motion. Next, we focus on a soft continuum arm, a commonly used platform in soft robotics, and evaluate the potential information-processing capability. Normally, to control such a high-dimensional system, it is necessary to introduce many sensors to completely capture the motion dynamics, causing the deterioration of the material's softness. We illustrate that the evaluation of the memory capacity and sensory reconstruction error enables us to verify the minimum number of sensors sufficient for fully grasping the state dynamics, which is highly useful in designing a sensor arrangement for a soft robot. Skin and subcutaneous thicknesses were measured from four quadrants (volar medial-lateral and dorsal medial-lateral) at the marked points and also subcutaneous tissue changes were graded according to the subcutaneous echogenicity grade (SEG) scale ultrasonographically. link2 The correlations between circumferential and ultrasonographic measurements were investigated. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis was made to estimate the diagnostic accuracy of the difference in ultrasonographic subcutaneous thickness measurements between the two arms. The study was completed with 34 female patients. Circumferential and subcutaneous tissue thickness measurements were moderately positively correlated in the volar quadrants and strongly positively correlated in the dorsal quadrants of the affected extremity. In the unaffected extremity, a strong positive correlation was identified in all quadrants. The clinical stages of lymphedema and SEG were weakly positively correlated in the volar medial quadrant. The difference between the two upper extremities was found to have a high (0.83%) sensitivity, and an acceptable (0.75%) specificity in the differentiation of Grade II and Grade III lymphedema. Conclusion A correlation was established between circumferential measurements and ultrasonographic measurements. Ultrasonography can be used complementary to circumferential measurements in diagnosing lymphedema. Clinical trial registration number NCT04213001.Objective Although multiple applications of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) and antibiotics (AB) have been proved to have a biomodulatory effect, no systematic review has exclusively compared the effectiveness as an adjunct to scaling and root planning (SRP). This study sought to systematically compare the clinical efficacy of repeated antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (RaPDT) with that of the systemic administered AB as an alternative approach to SRP in treating periodontitis. Methods In this systematic review, two independent reviewers searched PubMed, Embase, and CENTRAL databases. The primary outcomes assessed were bleeding on probing (BOP), probing pocket depth (PPD), and clinical attachment level (CAL). Results Five randomized clinical trials were included after screening 457 records. Results revealed that when patients from all studies were categorized based on their baseline CAL, AB demonstrated significant benefits over RaPDT in the improvement of PPD [weighted mean differences (WMD) = -0.36, 95% confidence interval (CI) = -0.71 to -0.02, p less then 0.05] in the patients with severe periodontitis (CAL baseline ≥5 mm) 3-month postoperatively, and CAL (WMD = -0.57, 95% CI = -1.11 to -0.04, p less then 0.05) at 6-month observation. Nevertheless, AB failed to show significant benefits over RaPDT, when CAL baseline less then 5 mm in terms of clinical parameters. Conclusions RaPDT may represent an alternative approach to SRP in treating slight-to-moderate periodontitis cases (CAL less then 5 mm), whereas AB remain a main therapy for treating severe periodontitis (CAL ≥5 mm).Health care institutions are witnessing a 'new normality', which profoundly reshapes the strategic and management challenges faced by health professionals in their attempt to achieve excellence in the design and delivery of care. Methods Participants were evaluated for the presence of FA with the Yale Food Addiction Scale 2.0. Results Of 134 subjects, 32 (23.9%) included met criteria for FA. The frequency of patients with depression at the time of the evaluation was greater among subjects with FA (34.4% vs. 11.8%; P = 0.006). The score obtained with the Beck Depression Inventory at the time of the evaluation was greater among subjects with FA (14.8 ± 11.5 vs. 6 ± 6.5; P less then 0.0001). The frequency of subjects with FA who had criteria for binge eating disorder at the time of the evaluation was significantly greater (56.3% vs. 20.5%; P less then 0.001). link3 Patients with FA scored higher in the Lattinen index for chronic pain at the time of the evaluation (8.7 ± 5.9 vs. 5.8 ± 5.4; P = 0.014). Conclusions Routine screening for FA at long term postoperatively should be recommended to improve psychological outcomes of BS.Employing the salutogenic model, we asked how individuals in different countries cope with the COVID-19 crisis and stay healthy. We were interested in exploring the individual (i.e. link2 sense of coherence) as well as the social and national resources (i.e. social support, sense of national coherence, and trust in governmental institutions) that could explain levels of mental health and anxiety during the outbreak of the pandemic. link3 Data collection was conducted via convenience sampling on online platforms, during the end of March and the beginning of April 2020. The data included four samples 640 Israeli participants (319 males), 622 Dutch participants (177 males), 924 Italian participants (338 males) and 489 Spanish participants (117 males); age range of 18-88 years. The questionnaires included standard tools (MHC-SF, GAD-7, SOC, SONC). Several questions were adapted to the context of coronavirus and measured levels of exposure to COVID-19, trust in governmental institutions, and social support. The results significantly confirmed the suggested salutogenic model regarding the contribution to individual and national coping resources to anxiety levels and mental health. The patterns of the coping resources in explaining anxiety and mental health were similar in the four samples, and SOC was the main predictor these outcomes. Despite these similarities, a different pattern and also different magnitudes of the predictive value of the coping resources were found for the two different reactions anxiety vs. mental health. While SOC and situational factors (like financial threat) were significant in explaining anxiety levels, the SOC and national resources were found as significant in explaining mental health levels. The findings support the salutogenic approach in studying reactions during pandemic time. They also shed some light on the difference between pathogenic and salutogenic measures in studying psychological reactions to stressful situations.
