Vitamin D belongs to the fat-soluble vitamins and is an integral part of bone metabolism. In the human body, a decreased vitamin D level can be an additional risk factor for diseases like cancer, diabetes, and mental diseases. As a result, an enormous increase in the demand for vitamin D testing has been observed in recent years, increasing the demand for powerful methods for vitamin D determination at the same time.Automation is the key factor in increasing sample throughput. This study compares three fully automated sample preparation methods for the determination of 25(OH)D2 and 25(OH)D3 in plasma and serum samples. Starting from a semiautomated reference method, the method is tested manually and subsequently fully automated on the Biomek i7 Workstation by integrating a centrifuge and a positive pressure extractor into the workstation. Alternatively, the centrifugation for the separation of protein aggregates and supernatant is replaced by a filter plate. Finally, the sample throughput is further increased by using phospholipid removal cartridges. The results show that phospholipid removal significantly increases the recovery rates in liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. With the phospholipid removal cartridges, recovery rates of 97.36% for 25(OH)D2 and 102.5% for 25(OH)D3 were achieved, whereas with the automated classic automated preparation method, the recovery rates were 83.31% for 25(OH)D2 and 86.54% for 25(OH)D3. In addition to the technical evaluation, the different methods were also examined with regard to their economic efficiency. Finally, the qualitative and quantitative performance of the developed methods is benchmarked with a selected semiautomatic reference method.
Hegemonic masculinity has been recognized as contributing to the perpetration of different forms of gender-based violence (GBV). Abandoning hegemonic masculinities and promoting positive masculinities are both strategies used by interventions that foreground a "gender-transformative approach." Preventing GBV among young people could be strengthened by engaging young men. In this article, we aim to systematically review the primary characteristics, methodological quality, and results of published evaluation studies of educational interventions that aim to prevent different forms of GBV through addressing hegemonic masculinities among young people.

We conducted a systematic review of available literature (2008-2019) using Medline (PubMed), Scopus, Web of Science, PsycInfo, the CINAHL Complete Database, and ERIC as well as Google scholar. The Template for Intervention Description and Replication was used for data extraction, and the quality of the selected studies was analyzed using the Mixed Method Appraisal Tool. More than half of the studies were conducted in Africa (
= 10/15) and many were randomized controlled trials (
= 8/15). selleck chemical Most of the studies with quantitative and qualitative methodologies (
= 12/15) reported a decrease in physical GBV and/or sexual violence perpetration/victimization (
= 6/15). Longitudinal studies reported consistent results over time.

Our results highlight the importance of using a gender-transformative approach in educational interventions to engage young people in critical thinking about hegemonic masculinity and to prevent GBV.

For psychiatric patients, the issue of falling is complex.

The objective of this study was to compare the risk factors for falling in psychiatric inpatients and general ward inpatients who had fallen.

The researchers first derived official fall records for 122 psychiatric inpatients and then selected 122 psychiatric inpatients who had not fallen as well as 122 general ward patients who had fallen, matched for gender, age, and length of hospital stay at the time of the fall incident.

After controlling other variables, multinomial logistic regression analysis revealed that psychiatric inpatients who had fallen and had dizziness (odds ratio [OR] = 7.11,
< .001), had an unsteady gait (OR = 1.97,
= .030), or were not using aids (OR = 0.42,
= .042) were at greater risk of falling than those who had not fallen. The researchers also found that general ward inpatients who had fallen and had higher Charlson Comorbidity Index scores (OR = 1.77,
< .001), were clear-headed (OR = 27.15,
= .001), had dizziness (OR = 11.55,
< .001), were unable to walk (OR = 64.28,
< .001), or were using aids (OR = 3.86,
= .001) were at greater risk of falling than those who had not fallen before.

The causes of falling among psychiatric inpatients and general ward inpatients are different. Medical personnel should understand the medications and attributes of patients for an accurate assessment of their risk factors for falling and thus implement fall prevention measures and health education to reduce falls.

Therefore, this work reports the development of quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) models to predict some biological properties of new 2-iminobenzimidazoline candidates for the treatment of the flu. A series of 2-iminobenzimidazoline derivatives with experimentally available values for cytotoxicity (pCC50) and anti-influenza activity (pIC50) was used for multivariate image analysis applied to QSAR (MIA-QSAR). The models were vigorously validated according to the best practices in QSAR and the chemical features responsible for the response variables were analysed based on MIA-plots, which assess the PLS regression coefficients and variable importance in projection scores. MIA descriptors encoding atomic properties (van der Waals radius and electronegativity) were capable of properly modelling the pCC50 and pIC50 data. The internally and externally validated models were used to predict the selectivity indexes (SI = pCC50/pIC50) of unprecedented analogues, which were designed upon analysis of the MIA-plots that show the substituent groups most affecting the biological data and by the combination of substructures of selected molecules.
