What to Look For in a Double Travel Buggy
A side-by-side double that has a compact footprint (for narrow doors and public transport). Add seats or carrycots (with adaptors), to increase the frame's capacity for weight for children weighing up to 50lbs.
A fantastic budget double that has rear and front suspensions to make light work of uneven surfaces, a large storage basket, and a cushioned handlebar for parents with different heights.
Size
In general, double pushchairs are wider than single models - especially when they're side-by-side buggies like the Kolcraft Geo 3 and UPPAbaby Vista 2. This extra width lets them to take on heavier children without straining their chassis. They also come with other key features that help them stand out, such as spacious pop-out canopies that come with SPF 50 and windows that peek out and swivel lock front wheels which help navigate narrow spots such as shopping aisles; cup holders for one parent and a smart fold mechanism that can be operated by one hand; and 10 inch back wheels that aren't designed for rough terrain, but can manage city streets and theme parks fairly well.
In terms of cost, these types of lightweight, side-by-side buggies are surprisingly affordable.
Weight
The lighter the double buggy the lighter it is, the easier it is to move and lift. The Joie Evalite Duo is a great option if you need to be aware of weight, as it's the lightest in our Lab tests. However, it offers a wide range of features, including large pop-out canopy with SPF 50 and peekaboo windows; a quick-release fold that folds flat in just a few seconds; four-wheel suspension to take on rough terrain and an adjustable front wheel that makes navigating tight aisles of supermarkets and shops simple. It's priced at just over $1000 It's also a great value stroller. It can also carry twins or a baby and toddler with the purchase of an additional'sidepack'.
Flexibility
A well-designed double buggy will provide a great deal of flexibility, no matter if you have twins or two toddlers or a baby. Narrow tandem buggies are a great way to squeeze into tight spaces. Side-by-side models enable you to keep the eye on your children and ensure their safety when you're out at the park or shopping. There are many buggies that come with a range of seat configurations which allows you to alter to your child's needs as they develop, and some offer the option of adding a ride-on or car seat.
The Joie Evalite Duo is a great example. It can fit two seats or a car seat and its easy-to-use adaptors let you change from a single to a double in just a few seconds. It also comes with a spacious pop-out UPF 50+ sunshade that can be used as a canopy, adjustable leg rests and peekaboo windows in both seats as well as an easy standing fold that is simple and quick to fold with one hand; and a top-quality suspension that makes light work of rough terrain.
The iCandy Peach tri-fold buggy is another alternative. Their slim frames are ideal for negotiating narrow doors and aisles, while they are able to accommodate twins, a baby or a big kid thanks to the addition of UPPAbaby's "PiggyBack' board (which you can purchase separately). They offer a generous basket and come with all the accessories you may require, including rain covers and liners.
Tandem buggies are generally designed with your children seated together. best twin stroller can make them easier and more stable to push on uneven surfaces, however they can be a challenge to maneuver around and over kerbs. They typically have a bigger footprint than a single-seater pushchair, and may be a bit longer to pass through doors.
Comfort
This is one of the most comfortable and lightweight doubles we've tested. It has a stadium-style seat on both seats, so your children can enjoy the view. It also has a large UPF 50+ canopy with a peekaboo window, a cushioned toddler seat that includes an RumbleSeat with built-in adjustable foot and leg rests and an integrated cup holder for one parent. The seats recline independently by pressing a lever underneath each seat. The testers also appreciate the fact that the straps can be secured and removed with just one hand. The handle is easy to turn and makes it easy to fold. It can also be put away with the backrest up to make it easy to access.
This is the perfect choice for families looking to expand with their children. It comes in a variety of configurations, including 30. It can hold twins, a toddler and a baby or three kids with a 'PiggyBack board'. The spacious basket and the soft suspension makes it suitable for kerbs as well in the city. It's also reasonably priced. BabyGearLab recommends this to children ages 0-6. of six.
