ometer (FlowVPE, yellow) measures the protein concentration. From the data of the light scattering photometer (Zetasizer, green) in the on-line measurement loop, the apparant molecular weight and z-average are calculated. The density sensor (microLDS) measures density and viscosity of the fluid in the on-line loop.In this work, an analytical method has been developed and validated for the determination of organophosphate esters (OPEs) in urban ornamental tree leaves. OPEs are flame retardants and plasticizers which are classified as health and environmental hazards substances. Their presence in urban air has been previously described. The method proposed in this work would allow the use of urban tree leaves as simple, cheap, and widely distributed in urban areas alternative to the existing active and passive sampler for sample collection. The method was based on sample treatment by selective pressurized liquid extraction (SPLE) and determination by gas chromatography with triple quadrupole mass spectrometry detector. After the optimization of the extraction solvent, the key parameters applied to SPLE (clean sorbent and sorbent amount applied for the sample clean-up, temperature, extraction cycles, and time) were optimized using a Box-Behnken response surface design. The method achieves high recoveries (higher than 60% for most of the target compounds), accuracies between 70 and 109%, and method detection and quantification limits ranged 0.05-4.96 ng/g dw (dry weight) and 0.15-14.4 ng/g dw, respectively. The method allowed the proper biomonitoring of OPE in tree leaves. Concentrations measured in analyzed samples were from 47.5 to 5477 ng/g dw (TEP). The most frequently detected compounds were triethyl phosphate tri-n-butyl phosphate, triphenyl phosphate, and tris(1-chloro-2-propyl)phosphate, while tris(2-ethylhexyl)phosphate was not detected in the analyzed samples. The proposed analytical method constitutes a starting point for the use of ornamental urban trees as passive sampler for the evaluation of OPE as air pollutants. Graphical Abstract.Magnetized liposome (magnetosomes) labels can overcome diffusion limitations in bioassays through fast and easy magnetic attraction. Our aim therefore was to advance the understanding of factors influencing their synthesis focusing on encapsulation strategies and synthesis parameters. Magnetosome synthesis is governed by the surface chemistry and the size of the magnetic nanoparticles used. We therefore studied the two possible magnetic labelling strategies, which are the incorporation of small, hydrophobic magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) into the bilayer core (b-liposomes) and the entrapment of larger hydrophilic MNPs into the liposomes' inner cavity (i-liposomes). Furthermore, they were optimized and compared for application in a DNA bioassay. The major obstacles observed for each of these strategies were on the one hand the need for highly concentrated hydrophilic MNPs, which is limited by their colloidal stability and costs, and on the other hand the balancing of magnetic strength vs. size for the hydrophobenhancers in bioanalysis and potential tools for bioseparations. Graphical abstract.Nitric oxide (NO) plays an important role in the generation of smog and ozone. Although great efforts have been made to determine NO by using o-phenylenediamine (OPD)-based fluorescent probes, more simple and reliable colorimetric assays for detection of NO are extremely scarce because a single OPD structure cannot produce enough optical absorption for chromogenesis. In this study, we report an innovative two-in-one visual colorimetric methodology. Commercially available 3,3'-diaminobenzidine (DAB) with two OPD structures in a single molecule is selected as the colorimetric probe, and it reacts with NO via diazo-coupling reaction to generate 1H,3'H-[5,5']bibenzotriazolyl because of the increase of conjugated double bonds, accompanying a distinct color change from colorless to brownish yellow. This two-in-one colorimetric assay can determine NO at a concentration as low as 3 ppm by the naked eye and 40 ppb by UV-vis spectrometry, which is the lowest limit of detection (LOD) among reported colorimetric assays for NO. Moreover, the present two-in-one visual colorimetric assay also has good selectivity toward NO over other common potential gas interferents such as CO2, NO2, NH3, N2, O2, and SO2. This present study provides a new insight for the design and development of assays for NO. Graphical abstract. An optical biosensor module for soil contamination assessment is presented, employing bioluminescent bacterial bioreporters encapsulated in poly-dopamine (PD)-coated alginate microbeads. The PD-coated beads displayed improved mechanical strength and stability, but somewhat delayed responses to the inducing toxicant. Using toluene as a model soil contaminant, two bioluminescent reporter strains were employed for its detection in the ambient light-blocking, temperature-controlled biosensor module. Bioluminescence of strain TV1061 (harboring an inducible grpEluxCDABE fusion) increased and that of strain GC2 (harboring a constitutive lacluxCDABE fusion) decreased in the presence of increasing toluene concentrations. In the former case, a maximal effect was observed in the presence of 1% toluene. This simple optical detection biosensor module may potentially be utilized for monitoring soil contamination from areas suspected of chemical pollution such petrochemical industrial zones or petrol stations. The article [European guidance for the diagnosis and management of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women], written by [J. METHODS Secondary data analysis of a cross-sectional survey of 13-14 year-old pupils attending schools in north-west England, with variables relating to vulnerability, violence and mental and physical health, was performed. The sample of 9626 represented 71% of the eligible population. Chi-squared tests and logistic regression were used to analyse demographic exposure to violence and outcomes. RESULTS Pupils affected by domestic and/or relationship violence had significantly worse outcomes and experiences than non-affected peers. click here Odds ratios demonstrated higher risks of being lonely, being bullied or having deliberately self-harmed. They were also more likely to report an enduring health condition, poorer health practices and worse access to and experiences of health services. CONCLUSIONS Exposure to violence in domestic and/or relationships is detrimental to children and young people's mental and physical health and vulnerability. Health risks and inequalities reported by CYP in this study provide compelling intelligence for renewed strategic policy-level consideration in the design and delivery of young peoples' health services.Quadriceps tendon is a promising alternative graft option for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, which can be harvested with or without a bone block as well as a full or partial thickness graft. Therefore, quadriceps tendon graft could be used in primary and revision ACL reconstruction based on the requirements (tunnel size, tunnel position, etc.). The all soft tissue, partial thickness quadriceps tendon graft in detail and pitfalls of the harvest are described in the present review. After quadriceps tendon harvest, especially in soccer players, who need a strong quadriceps to strike a ball with power, the postoperative rehabilitation may need to be adapted. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE V.In recent years new surgical techniques to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia have been introduced into urological practice and evaluated in clinical studies. Complications of standard procedures, e.g. transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP), can be avoided while maintaining equivalent clinical outcomes. The main goal is preservation of erectile and ejaculatory function. Furthermore, outpatient treatment associated with a rapid patient recovery would be desirable. This article presents the course of the interventions, the mechanisms of action and current clinical evidence for novel mechanical approaches of recanalization, water-based ablation as well as prostate artery embolization. Initial study results partially indicate that in the future practically all patients can be offered an individualized surgical technique, which provides optimal symptomatic and functional improvements with a minimized risk of complications. It has been known for more than 20 years that early treatment of maldescended testicles can have a positive effect on fertility and a negative effect on the development of tumors. In certain circumstances, hormone therapy is still recommended in German-speaking countries. However, its benefit is still controversially discussed. Therapy is usually initiated by the pediatrician, who is usually the first to detect undescended testicles. Since therapy may involve early hormone therapy as well as surgery, acceptance among pediatricians and also the parents may be reduced. The question also arises as to how far the implementation is practicable. In patients with nonpalpable testis, there are many controversies concerning the value of ultrasound investigations. In the following two case studies, the treatment decisions for undescended testes in infancy are exemplified. Furthermore, the available evidence from the literature and guidelines is presented to provide assistance for daily routine care and to critically discuss potential fields of application and limitations of existing guidelines.Metalaxyl is broadly applied in agriculture to control peronosporales-caused diseases in plant. To investigate the toxic effects, zebrafish embryos were exposed to metalaxyl at 5, 50 and 500 ng/L for 72 h, the development of larvae were assessed. A significant decreased survival rate, body length, hatching rate (48 h post-fertilization), and a significant increased spinal curvature rate were observed in the 500 ng/L treatment. The lengths of lower jaw, upper jaw and hyomandibular were significantly decreased in the 5, 50 and 500 ng/L groups; while the lower jaw width was significantly increased in the 500 ng/L group. The lengths of palatoquadrate, ceratohyal and ethmoid plate were reduced. Though cyp26a1 mRNA levels showed no significant change, the transcription of bmp2b (in the 500 ng/L group), ihh (in the 50 and 500 ng/L groups), shh (in the 5, 50 and 500 ng/L groups) were significantly up-regulated, which may be related to the abnormal development of the skeleton.BACKGROUND The increasing number of elderly individuals in the population and the simultaneous increase of the intensive care demand emphasizes the relevance of an efficient bed capacity analysis. Particularly, cardiovascular diseases represent a frequently occurring disease in the population group over 65 years of age. The objective of the following paper is the analysis of the retrospective and prospective intensive care demand by patients over 65 years with 6 selected (cardiovascular) codes of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD-10). METHODS For the retrospective analysis, data from 2015-2017 were analyzed applying descriptive and bivariate methods. The analysis of the intensive care bed demand was based on the queuing theory. RESULTS The monthly capacity utilization rates were constantly higher than the target capacity utilization rate of a maximum of 80% and in some cases even higher than 100%. In particular, the demand of patients with I50.14 was very high throughout the entire hospital.
