We determine allele, genotype and combined genotype frequencies of FKBP6 exon 5 SNPs in a global cohort of 518 Thoroughbreds (76% stallions or geldings and 24% mares) and show that the frequency of the A/A-A/A genotype is 4%. Because there is no similar association between the FKBP6 exon 5 genotype and stallion subfertility in Hanoverians, we suggest that the two SNPs are not causative but rather tagging a breed-specific haplotype with genetic variants unique to Thoroughbreds. Further WGS-based research is needed to identify the molecular causes underlying the observed genotype-phenotype association in Thoroughbred stallions.Women with endometriosis may experience uncertainty owing to the characteristics of the disease, including vague symptom patterns, delayed diagnosis, and long-term management with no cure. However, women use various coping strategies to adapt to the uncertainty caused by their endometriosis. This descriptive qualitative study explored the coping experiences of women with endometriosis to reduce their uncertainty about the disease and to achieve successful adaptation to their lives with endometriosis. By using convenience and purposive sampling methods, qualitative data were collected from 14 women in South Korea (mean age = 37.7 years, age range = 27-54 years), who were diagnosed with endometriosis through laparoscopy or open surgery. All interview data were thematically analyzed. Four themes were identified as adaptive coping experiences (1) gaining self-control over the ambiguous disease; (2) regaining the daily routines destroyed by the disease; (3) being emotionally supported and expressing oneself when feeling unsupported by society; and (4) taking an active role in one's treatment plan by being self-directed. Patients' sense of self-control and self-directedness regarding the disease and the treatment process were important to adapt to life with endometriosis. In addition, regaining stable daily routines as well as being emotionally supported were critical for decreasing their uncertainty. While evidence-based guidelines exist for placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) diagnosis and management, there is a paucity of data on PAS practice patterns worldwide. The objective of this study was to describe global geographic variations in the diagnosis and management of PAS.

An international cross-sectional study was conducted among PAS experts practicing at medical institutions in member states of the United Nations. Survey questions focused on diagnostic evaluation and management strategies for PAS.

A total of 136 centers participated. Participating centers represented each of the United Nations' designated regions. Of those, 88% reported practicing in a medium or high volume center. First trimester PAS screen was reported in 26.1% of centers. Respondents consistently implement guideline-supported care practices, including utilization of ultrasound as the primary diagnostic modality (100%) and implementation of multidisciplinary care teams (85.8%). Less than 10% of respondents reported routinely managing PAS without hysterectomy; these centers were predominantly located in Europe and Africa. Antepartum management and availability of mental health support for PAS patients varied widely.

Worldwide, there is a strong adherence to PAS care guidelines; however, regional variations do exist. Comparing variations in care to outcomes will provide insight into the clinically significant practice variability.

Limited studies are available comparing the outcomes of non-surgical periodontal therapy (NSPT) with or without adjunctive ErYAG laser (ERL) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). This study evaluated the effects of ERL adjunctive NSPT on single-rooted teeth of inadequately controlled T2DM patients with periodontitis.

Twenty-two inadequately controlled T2DM participants with periodontitis were recruited. Adopting a double-blinded split-mouth design and under block randomization, we investigated the effects of ERL in calculus removal then degranulation mode, or a sham treatment, adjunct NSPT, which included two visits of full-mouth root surface debridement delivered within 4-10days, to test or control single-rooted teeth (Wuxi Stomatology Hospital, trial 2017-016). We followed periodontal parameters (plaque %, bleeding on probing [BOP] %, probing pocket depth [PPD], probing attachment level [PAL]) and selected systemic parameters (fasting plasma glucose [FPG], glycosylated hemoglobin [HbA1c%], high sensitivity C-reactive protein) at baseline, one, three, and six months after periodontal treatment.

The study was completed as planned. Periodontal parameters, FPG and HbA1c% of the 22 participants appeared significantly improved at six months (p < 0.001). The 44 ERL treated, compared to 44sham treated single-rooted teeth exhibited significant improvement in BOP, mean PPD, and mean PAL at various postoperative follow-up time points (effect size ≥0.44; p < 0.001). No adverse event was reported.
