"Flora?"

"Yes?"

"If I were to sing a song that I made up, would you laugh at me?"

"Is it a funny sort of song?"

"...it- it isn't meant to be..."

"Alright then, I promise I won't."

"Okay. I... I feel a bit silly."

"Don't! Writing songs is what we normally do, isn't it?"

"Y-yes well... It's a bit of a sad sort of song. I'm not sure you'll like it, and I felt silly writing it."

"Let me hear it before you decide I won't like it, silly!"

"Oh- well, alright then..."


"Once I was a rabbit in his little rabbit hole
It was all that he wanted and all he had ever known
But all at once, the world did not seem to agree
To the life that was once promised of me.

And soon every voice in every hall
Responded with that awful call:
"You mayn't live, if you should stay;
All you can do now is run away."

Weaving through willows, bushes, and trees
He sought to regain his peace;
A peace that he would never claim
T'was already broken, every piece.

For the world did not want his return
To his little humble place,
His old life crackled and slowly burned
And never again saw his face;

And every creature that he met
Burned into his mind
That he never should have left
His old life behind.

But there was naught that he could do,
The wolves took up his hole;
And if he ever did return,
He would be eaten whole.

So weaving through willows, bushes, and trees
He left the forest halls
Gone was all familiarity,
Nothing left at all."

"..."

"You don't have to like it, Flora... I just... felt like making it..."

"N-no, I like it, actually- it's just... I'm sorry, Willie..."

"Sorry? Sorry for what?"

"It... It was us who encouraged you to come with us... We just didn't want you to be lonely."

There was silence for a few moments while Willie tried to piece together something to say.

"You don't have to be sorry. I'd been thinking about running away even since long before I met you both. You just... gave me the courage to go through with it."

It was silent for a little while longer.

"I think that- I think that somehow... running away did give me a little bit of peace. W-well- I'm still scared, but... I'd be a lot more scared if you weren't here."

"That's it!" Flora exclaimed, slamming a palm on the table nearest to them. "That's enough; if you continue on like that I do think I am going to melt. Come on, let's go get some ice cream and cheer ourselves up a bit."
