Food addiction (FA) following bariatric surgery (BS) has received a burst of attention in recent years due to its important contribution to obesity. Sorafenib mw Therefore, this study was conducted to explore the prevalence of FA disorder and its predictors 2 years after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) and assess its relationship with physical activity (PA), body composition, and weight outcomes.

Four hundred fifty individuals who had undergone LSG 2 years prior to the study were enrolled. FA was diagnosed using the Yale Food Addiction Scale (YFAS). The collected data included body composition (fat mass (FM), fat-free mass (FFM)), PA, and nutritional intakes.

Eighty-nine subjects (about 20%) met the criteria for FA disorder. FA patients had significantly lower PA (p = 0.04) and higher weight (p < 0.001), BMI (p < 0.001), FM, and FFM (p = 0.01) compared to those without FA. Regarding weight and body composition changes, the finding reveals that FA patients (vs. non-FA) had a significantly less excess weight loss (EWL%) (p < 0.001) and total weight loss (TWL%) (p = 0.05) as well as a higher FFM loss (kg) (p = 0.04) (linear regression analysis). A younger age (p trend = 0.01), higher BMI (p trend = 0.04), and more excess weight (p trend = 0.03) were related to higher odds of FA disorder at second year after LSG (logistic regression analysis).

The results showed that FA was highly prevalent 2 years after LSG. In addition, FA disorder was associated with negative long-term outcomes following LSG. Younger individuals with more excess weight and higher BMI at baseline are more vulnerable to FA.

The aim of this study was to understand the influence of the physical environment on the physical activity (PA) behavior of preschool children (aged 2 to 6 years), in order to provide an overview of these influences from the perspective of the ecological model.

PA is of great importance for the prevention of obesity and cardiovascular diseases since childhood. The physical environment has a direct relationship with the different domains, where people can spend their time being physically active. Nonetheless, despite the importance of the physical environment to engagement in PA, very few reviews have focused on this relationship in the context of the growing problem of physical inactivity among preschool children. Studies that had analyzed the school domain had found that greater availability of a wider variety of portable play equipment, presence of certain fixed playground equipment, and presence of open spaces had favored PA levels. Furthermore, different studies had shown that the natural environment d found that greater availability of a wider variety of portable play equipment, presence of certain fixed playground equipment, and presence of open spaces had favored PA levels. Furthermore, different studies had shown that the natural environment and the presence of hills were important for children's PA. Thus, despite the associations with PA we were able to identify in this review, new studies will still be needed to link the physical environment with PA levels, especially regarding transportation and leisure time. In conclusion, promoting studies on this subject from an early age will allow us to obtain information that could allow the adaptation, design, and construction of healthier homes, neighborhoods, and schools that promote children's health.
Our comparative analysis sought to understand the factors which drive differences in fish consumption advisories across the USA - including exposure scenarios (acute and chronic health risk, non-cancer and cancer health endpoints), toxicity values (reference dose, cancer slope factor, acute tolerance level), and meal size and bodyweight assumptions.

Fish consumption provides essential nutrients but also results in exposure to contaminants such as PCBs and methylmercury. To protect consumers from the risks of fish contaminants, fish consumption advisories are established, most often by state jurisdictions, to estimate the amount of a certain fish species a person could consume throughout their lifetime without harm. However, inconsistencies in advisories across the USA confuse consumers and undermine the public health goals of fish advisory programs. To date, no rigorous comparison of state and national fish consumption advisories has been reported. Our work identifies discrepancies in key assumptions usedrigorous comparison of state and national fish consumption advisories has been reported. Our work identifies discrepancies in key assumptions used to derive risk-based advisories between US states, reflecting differences in the interpretation of toxicity science. We also address the implications for these differences by reviewing advisories issued by contiguous states bordering two waterbodies Lake Michigan and the Lower Mississippi River. Our findings highlight the importance of regional collaboration when issuing advisories, so that consumers of self-caught fish are equipped with clear knowledge to make decisions to protect their health. To date, endophytic actinomycetes have been well-documented as great producers of novel antibiotics and important pharmaceutical leads. The present study aimed to evaluate potent bioactivities of metabolites synthesized by the strain LCP18 residing in the Vietnamese medicinal plant Litsea cubeba (Lour.) Pers towards human pathogenic bacteria and human cancer cell lines. Endophytic actinomycete strain LCP18 showed considerable inhibition against seven bacterial pathogens and three human tumor cell lines and was identified as species Streptomyces variabilis. Strain S. variabilis LCP18 was phenotypically resistant to fosfomycin, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, dalacin, cefoxitin, rifampicin, and fusidic acid and harbored the two antibiotic biosynthetic genes such as PKS-II and NRPS. Further purification and structural elucidation of metabolites from the LCP18 extract revealed five plant-derived bioactive compounds including isopcrunetin, genistein, daidzein, syringic acid, and daucosterol. Among those, isoprunetin, genistein, and daidzein exhibited antibacterial activity against Salmonella typhimurium ATCC 14,028 and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus epidermidis ATCC 35,984 with the MIC values ranging from 16 to 128 µg/ml. These plant-derived compounds also exhibited cytotoxic effects against human lung cancer cell line A549 with IC50 values of less than 46 μM. These findings indicated that endophytic S. variabilis LCP18 can be an alternative producer of plant-derived compounds which significantly show potential applications in combating bacterial infections and inhibition against lung cancer cell lines.
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a primary liver cancer with a high mortality rate. It has been reported that circular RNA hsa_circ_0091579 (circ_0091579) is involved in HCC progression. Nevertheless, the molecular mechanism by which circ_0091579 modulates HCC advancement is indistinct.

The expression of circ_0091579, microRNA (miR)-624, and H3 histone family member 3B (H3F3B) mRNA was evaluated by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). The extracellular acidification rate (ECAR) and oxygen consumption rate (OCR) of HCC cells were analyzed using an extracellular flux analyzer. Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) level was evaluated using a commercial kit. Cell migration, invasion, and apoptosis were assessed by wound-healing, transwell, or flow cytometry assay. The relationship between miR-624 and circ_0091579 or H3F3B was verified using luciferase reporter assay and/or RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) assay. H3F3B protein level was detected by western blotting.

Circ_0091579 was upregulated in HCC tissues and cells. Circ_0091579 inhibition decreased xenograft tumor growth in vivo and repressed Warburg effect, migration, invasion, and induced apoptosis of HCC cells in vitro. MiR-624 was downregulated, while H3F3B was upregulated in HCC tissues and cells. Circ_0091579 acted as a miR-624 sponge and regulated H3F3B expression by adsorbing miR-624. MiR-624 inhibitor reversed circ_0091579 downregulation-mediated effectson the Warburg effect and malignant behaviors of HCC cells. H3F3B overexpression reversed the repressive impact of miR-624 mimic on the Warburg effect and malignancy of HCC cells.

Circ_0091579 accelerated Warburg effect and tumor growth via upregulating H3F3B via adsorbing miR-624 in HCC, providing evidence to support the involvement of circ_0091579 in the progression of HCC.

A low-efficiency NPQ, characterized by weak NPQ induction capacity and a low level of protective NPQ, was observed in the marine angiosperm Zostera marina, which inhabits the shallow water regions. Furthermore, chlorophyll fluorescence and Western blot analysis verified that the fast-inducted component of NPQ, i.e., the energy-dependent quenching (qE), was not present in this species. In contrast with the lack of PSII antenna quenching sites for qE induction in brown algae and the lack of functional XC in Ulvophyceae belonging to green algae, all the antenna proteins and the functional XC are present in Z. marina. A novel underlying mechanism was observed that the limited construction of the trans-thylakoid proton gradient (ΔpH) caused by photoinactivation of the oxygen evolving complex (OEC) did not induce protonation of PsbS, thus explaining the inability to form quenching sites for qE induction. Although the ΔpH established under light exposure activated violaxanthin (V) de-epoxidase enzyme to catalyze conversion of V via antheraxanthin (A) and then to zeaxanthin (Z), the quenching capacity of de-epoxidized pigment was weak in Z. marina. We suggest that the low-efficiency NPQ was conducive to efficiently utilize the limited electrons to perform photosynthesis, resisting the adverse effect of OEC photoinactivation on the photosynthetic rate.In photosynthetic organisms, it is recognized that the intracellular redox ratio of NADPH is regulated within an appropriate range for the cooperative function of a wide variety of physiological processes. However, despite its importance, there is large variability in the values of the NADPH fraction [NADPH/(NADPH + NADP+)] quantitatively estimated to date. In the present study, the light response of the NADPH fraction was investigated by applying a novel NADP(H) extraction method using phenol / chloroform / isoamyl alcohol (PCI) in the cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803. The light response of NADP(H) observed using PCI extraction was qualitatively consistent with the NAD(P)H fluorescence time course measured in vivo. Moreover, the results obtained by PCI extraction and the fluorescence-based methods were also consistent in a mutant lacking the ability to oxidize NAD(P)H in the respiratory chain, and exhibiting a unique NADPH light response. These observations indicate that the PCI extraction method allowed quantitative determination of NADP(H) redox.
