Nurses are central to optimising nutrition for frail older patients. It requires ward leadership to instil a culture of prioritising assisted mealtimes, improved communication, greater autonomy to tailor nutrition strategies and safe staffing levels.Organic long-persistent luminescent systems (OLPLs) exhibiting long-lasting emission after photoexcitation consist of organic electron donors and acceptors, that are widely used in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). Although OLPLs and OLEDs include very similar excitonic processes, long-lasting emission has never been observed in OLEDs. This study confirms the presence of long-persistent luminescence (LPL) under electrical excitation.Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) is an acute autoimmune peripheral inflammatory neuropathy and the most frequent cause of non-poliovirus acute flaccid paralysis worldwide. Background annual GBS incidence rates (IRs) in Latin America (LA) varies from 0.40 to 2.12/100000 persons per year. We performed a prospective population-based epidemiological study to determine the incidence and clinical profile of GBS in the most densely populated regions in Uruguay. The incidence of GBS in the population living in Montevideo and Canelones was studied in the period between June 01, 2018 and May 31, 2020. Patients older than 16 years of age diagnosed with GBS were prospectively enrolled. The mean global annual IR in the Uruguayan population was 1.7/100000 persons (95% CI 1.25-2.25). The highest rate was observed in the 65 to 74 age group among men (5.25/100000 per year) and in the 55 to 64 age group among women (2/100.000 per year). The mean age was 53.9 ± 19.5, years, without difference by sex (53.5 women, 54.5 men). The in-hospital mortality rate was 5.8%. A total of 51 patients were diagnosed with GBS 42 (82%) had typical GBS, 5 (10%) Miller-Fisher syndrome (MFS), 3 (7%) a bilateral facial nerve palsy, 1 patient had a GBS-MFS overlap (2.3%). This is the first population-based GBS incidence study in LA using a prospective design. Our IR can be a useful tool in establishing the background rate to examine future disease trends caused by the introduction of new viruses or vaccines in Uruguay. When facing the dilemma of following a preorganized or adaptive design approach in conceiving the architecture of new biomimetic receptors for carbohydrates, shape-persistent macrocyclic structures were most often chosen to achieve effective recognition of neutral saccharides in water. In contrast, acyclic architectures have seldom been explored, even though potentially simpler and more easily accessible. In this work, comparison of the binding properties of two structurally related diaminocarbazolic receptors, featuring a macrocyclic and an acyclic tweezer-shaped architecture, highlighted the advantages provided by the acyclic receptor in terms of selectivity in the recognition of 1,4-disaccharides of biological interest. Selective recognition of GlcNAc2 , the core fragment of N-glycans exposed on the surface of enveloped viruses, stands as an emblematic example. NMR spectroscopic data and molecular modeling calculations were used to ascertain the differences in binding mode and to shed light on the origin of recognition efficacy and selectivity. The preparation of sequence-defined macromolecules using cyclic sulfamidates on solid-phase is outlined. The challenges surrounding an AB+CD approach are described with focus on understanding the formation of ring-opened side products when using amide coupling reagents. To avoid undesired side product formation, a strategy of iterative ring-openings of cyclic sulfamidates on solid-phase is explored. Ring-opening on primary and secondary amines is successfully reported, generating both linear and branched chain growth. However, attempts to selectively cleave N-sulfate bearing sp3 -hybridized groups cannot be demonstrated, limiting the overall building block scope for this methodology. Consequently, the active ring-opening of cyclic sulfamidates on amine-functionalized oligo(amidoamine) backbones is successfully applied to produce sequence-defined, N-sulfated macromolecules.Liver malignancies are among the tumor types that are resistant to immune checkpoint inhibition therapy. selleck products Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) are highly enriched and play a major role in inducing immunosuppression in liver malignancies. Herein, CCL2 and CCL5 are screened as two major chemokines responsible for attracting TAM infiltration and inducing their polarization toward cancer-promoting M2-phenotype. To reverse this immunosuppressive process, an innovative single-domain antibody that bispecifically binds and neutralizes CCL2 and CCL5 (BisCCL2/5i) with high potency and specificity is directly evolved. mRNA encoding BisCCL2/5i is encapsulated in a clinically approved lipid nanoparticle platform, resulting in a liver-homing biomaterial that allows transient yet efficient expression of BisCCL2/5i in the diseased organ in a multiple dosage manner. This BisCCL2/5i mRNA nanoplatform significantly induces the polarization of TAMs toward the antitumoral M1 phenotype and reduces immunosuppression in the tumor microenvironment. The combination of BisCCL2/5i with PD-1 ligand inhibitor (PD-Li) achieves long-term survival in mouse models of primary liver cancer and liver metastasis of colorectal and pancreatic cancers. The work provides an effective bispecific targeting strategy that could broaden the PD-Li therapy to multiple types of malignancies in the human liver.
The prevalence of fungal infection (FI) in developing countries is high, but the diagnosis of FI is still challenging to determine, so it is needed evaluation of biomarkers other than microbiological culture, because the culture has low sensitivity, high cost, not available in every laboratory and needs a long time. The detection of human galactomannan Aspergillus antigen (GAL) and 1,3-beta-D-glucan (BDG) on the fungal cell wall could be the promising biomarkers for fungal infection. Neutropenia, lymphopenia and CD4T cells in the immunocompromised patients are essential factors, but these cell associations with BDG and GAL levels have not been evaluated yet. The study aimed to evaluate GAL and BDG for detecting fungal infection and their association with total leucocyte count, neutrophil, monocyte, lymphocyte and CD4T cells.

A cross-sectional study was conducted among 86 patient with suspected FI. Fungal infection established using EORTC/MSG criteria. Serology test performed using ELISA. Leucocyte cells were measured using a haematology autoanalyser, and CD4T cells were analysed using BD FACSPresto. Statistical analysis obtained using Spearman's correlation coefficient, ROC curve analysis and 2×2 contingency table.

Serum Galactomannan and BDG had a significant correlation with CD4T cells and total lymphocyte count (p<0.05). The cut-off OD GAL >0.3 had sensitivity 54.6%, specificity 87.5% and AUC 0.71; meanwhile, the BDG cut-off >115.78pg/ mL had sensitivity 71.2%, specificity 52.4% and AUC 0.63 for detecting fungal infection.

The immunocompromised patients can undergo GAL for determining the diagnose of FI. The lower the CD4T cells and total lymphocyte count, the higher the GAL and BDG serum levels.

To investigate whether there are quantitative relationships between the concentration of airborne microorganisms and the IAQ in the hospital environment. Web of Science, Scopus and PubMed databases were searched for studies reporting airborne microbial levels and any IAQ parameter(s) in hospital environments, from database inception to October 2020. Pooled effect estimates were determined via random-effects models. Seventeen of 654 studies were eligible for the meta-analysis. The concentration of airborne microbial measured as aerobic colony count (ACC) was significantly correlated with temperature (r = 0.25 [95% CI = 0.06-0.42], p = 0.01), CO2 concentration (r = 0.rker presence and the activities carried out such as cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfection protocols. Foot traffic would influence both the generation of microorganisms and their deposition rate onto surfaces in the hospital environment. These data would inform models to improve the understanding of the likely concentration of airborne microorganisms and provide an alternative approach for real-time monitoring of the healthcare environment.Herein we reported the electrochemical hydroboration of alkynes by using B2 Pin2 as the boron source. This unprecedented reaction manifold was applied to a broad range of alkynes, giving the hydroboration products in good to excellent yields without the need of a metal catalyst or a hydride source. This transformation relied on the possible electrochemical oxidation of an in situ formed borate. This anodic oxidation performed in an undivided cell allowed the formation of a putative boryl radical, which reacted on the alkyne.
Cardiovascular iron load is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in beta-thalassemia major (β-TM). However, many patients remain asymptomatic until the late stage. In this cross-sectional study, we investigated the role of three-dimensional (3D) echocardiography and endothelial dysfunction parameters in asymptomatic β-TM patients, and the relationship between these parameters and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) T2* value.

A total of 51 asymptomatic β-TM patients receiving regular blood transfusions were divided into two groups based on cardiac MRI-T2* values (MRI-T2*<20ms and ≥20ms), which MRI-T2*<20ms determines myocardial iron load and evaluated by two-dimensional (2D) and 3D-echocardiography including endothelial dysfunction parameters. The relationships between ferritin levels, 2D and 3D-echocardiography measurements, endothelial dysfunction parameters, and cardiac MRI-T2* values were investigated.

All left ventricle ejection fraction (LVEF) obtained by 2D-echocardiography werdiography may be a promising predictors of cardiovascular iron load and, decreased LVEF-3D, FMD, and aortic strain might be good indicators of subclinical cardiovascular involvement of β-TM.
Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a condition that is very common all over the world, concerns about men and causes very important social problems. The aim of this study is to perform quantitative penile corpus cavernosum (CC) stiffness measurements by using SWE for patients with both types of vascular ED.

In our study, we handled the data of 101 participants in total. The average age of the participants was 56.36. We divided the participants after color Doppler US (CDUS) into three groups normal group (n=30), arterial insufficiency (n=51), and venous insufficiency (n=20). SWE measurements were made in both groups in the CC flaccid (f) and rigid (r) positions, and the results were noted. International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF-5) questionnaire and Erection score (ES) were evaluated.

The mean CC f SWE and r SWE measurement values were 20.2 ± 0.8 and 17.15± 0.54kPa, 3.84 ± 0.13 and 2.78 ± 0.11m/s in the arterial insufficiency group; 15.72 ± 0.58 and 12.52 ± 0.33kPa, 2.88 ± 0.06 and 2.09 ± 0.11m/s in the venous insufficiency group; 14.
