There is very little literature reporting the association of matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP1) with personal susceptibility to bladder cancer. In the current study, we carried out the first examination of the contribution of MMP1 rs1799750 to bladder cancer risk in Taiwanese.
A total of 375 bladder cancer cases and 375 healthy controls were genotyped for MMP1 rs1799750 via polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism methodology and this was evaluated for association with clinicopathological factors.
The frequencies of MMP1 rs1799750 2G/2G, 1G/2G, and 1G/1G genotypes were 35.7%, 44.8% and 19.5% in the group with bladder cancer and 32.5%, 46.4%, and 21.1% in the healthy control group (p for trend=0.6362). The odds ratios (ORs) for bladder cancer risk after adjusting for age and gender for those carrying 1G/2G and 1G/1G genotypes at MMP1 rs1799750 were 0.88 (95% CI=0.62-1.24, p=0.4357) and 0.83 (95% CI=0.61-1.26, p=0.3990), respectively, compared with the wild-type 2G/2G genotype. In allelic frequency analysis, the adjusted OR for those carrying the 1G allele at MMP1 rs1799750 was 0.87 (95% CI=0.71-1.23, p=0.3479) compared to those people carrying a 2G allele.
Our findings indicated that the genotypes at MMP1 rs1799750 appear to play little role in determining personal susceptibility to bladder cancer for Taiwanese.

The aim of the present study was to identify effective drugs for a highly-aggressive liver-metastasis of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) in a patient-derived orthotopic xenograft (PDOX) mouse model. Drugs tested were oral recombinant methioninase (o-rMETase), low-dose eribulin and their combination.
Patient-derived TNBC was implanted in the liver of nude mice by surgical hepatic implantation. Two weeks after transplantation, 32 mice were randomized (n=8 per group) into a phosphate-buffered saline vehicle-control group; o-rMETase-treatment group (100 units, o-rMETase, oral, daily for 2 weeks); eribulin-treatment group (0.05 mg/kg intraperitoneally once per week for 2 weeks); or combination-treatment group (100 units r-METase, oral, daily for 2 weeks + 0.05 mg/kg eribulin intraperitoneally once per week for 2 weeks).
After 2 weeks, the three treatment groups exhibited significantly-inhibited TNBC growth in the liver compared to the vehicle-control group (p≤0.05).
o-rMETase and low-dose eribulin monotherapy and their combination were efficacious against the highly-aggressive TNBC PDOX growing in the liver. The TNBC PDOX model can be used to identify highly-effective drugs for therapy of TNBC with liver metastasis.

High-flow nasal cannula (HFNC), a new method for postoperative oxygenation, has increasingly received attention during postoperative care. However, its importance for obese patients undergoing cardiac surgery remains controversial. This systematic review and meta-analysis compared and evaluated HFNC and conventional oxygen therapy (COT) in this patient group.
Literature was retrieved by searching eight public databases. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were selected. RevMan 5.3 was used to analyze the results and any potential bias. The primary outcome included atelectasis score at 24 h postoperatively. The secondary outcomes included PaO2/FiO2 (ratio), dyspnea score at 24 h postoperatively, intensive care unit (ICU) length of stay, and reintubation.
The search strategy yielded 382 studies after duplicates were removed. Finally, 3 RCTs with a total of 526 patients were included in the present study. Compared with COT, there was no significant difference in atelectasis score, dyspnea score, reintubation, and ICU length of stay.
For obese patients undergoing cardiac surgery, postoperative use of HFNC can maintain patient's oxygenation. Additional clinical studies are needed to investigate the role of HFNC in this patient group.

It is predominantly used in anesthesia and is the most used parenteral anesthetic agent in the United States. Accumulating preclinical studies have shown that this compound may inhibit cancer recurrence and metastasis. Nevertheless, other investigations provided evidence that this compound may promote breast cancer cell progression by modulating different molecular pathways. Clinical data on this topic are scarce and derive from retrospective analyses. For this reason, we reviewed and evaluated the available data to reveal insight into this controversial issue. mTOR inhibitor More preclinical and clinical investigations are necessary to determine the potential role of propofol in the proliferation of breast cancer cells. The metabolic disorders caused by diabetes can lead to various complications, including dysfunction of the male reproductive system. In patients with diabetes, long-term hyperglycemia results in diabetic vascular neuropathy, oxidative stress injury, abnormal zinc metabolism, and insulin resistance syndrome. In addition, insulin deficiency and resistance in diabetes can damage the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, gonads, and perigonads. This can reduce the secretion of sex hormones including gonadotropin-releasing hormone, follicle stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, and testosterone, and can lead to testicular atrophy, stromal cell atrophy, seminiferous tubule damage, spermatogenic cell damage, and other structural injuries of the male reproductive organs. These actions can affect male fertility and reproductive health. Herein, we review studies that report a causative role of diabetes in male reproductive function. We also discuss the evidence-based mechanisms involved in the processes of diabetes-related male sexual and reproductive dysfunction as well as the progress in treatment. This article investigates the consensus problem of mixed-order nonlinear multiagent systems (MASs). First, a new research framework of consensus control for MASs with hybrid-order dynamics is established. In this framework, the order of low-order dynamic subsystems is increased to higher-order dynamic subsystems by means of increasing order technology, so that the mixed-order MASs can be changed into the same-order MASs. Thus, the distributed controller of hybrid-order MASs can be designed by using the consensus control method of the same-order MASs. Second, through a case study of a stochastic mixed first- and second-order nonlinear MASs, this article further expounds the design idea of the framework structure and gives the concrete design form of the distributed controller and the stability analysis of the closed-loop system. Finally, simulations are given to verify the effectiveness of the distributed control protocol in this case.
Accurate real-time estimation of motion intent is critical for rendering useful assistance using wearable robotic prosthetic and exoskeleton devices during user-initiated motions. We aim to evaluate hierarchical classification as a strategy for real-time locomotion mode recognition for the control of wearable robotic prosthetics and exoskeletons during user-intiated motions.
We collect motion data from 8 subjects using a set of 7 inertial sensors for 16 lower limb locomotion modes of different specificities. A CNN based hierarchical classifier is trained to classify the modes into a specified label hierarchy. We measure the accuracy, stability, behaviour during mode transitions and suitability for real-time inference of the classifier.
The method achieves stable classification of locomotion modes using 1280 ms of time history data. It achieves average classification accuracy of 94.34% and an average AU(PRC) of 0.773 - comparable to similar classifiers. The method produces more informative classifications at transitions between modes. Less specific classes are classified earlier than more specific classes in the hierarchy. The inference step of the classifier can be executed in less than 2 ms on embedded hardware, indicating suitability for real-time operation.
Hierarchical classification can achieve accurate detection of locomotion modes and can break up mode transitions into multiple transitions between modes of different specificity.
Multi-specific hierarchical classification of locomotion modes could lead to smoother, more fine grained control adaptation of wearable robots during locomotion mode transitions.

Two types of control mechanisms, namely, event- and self-triggered control mechanisms, are presented so as to cut down unnecessary information transmission. Both of these two mechanisms are distributed, and thus, only local information of each agent and its neighboring agents is adopted for the event condition design. The DoS attacks are considered to be aperiodic, and the quantitative relationship between the attributes of the DoS attacks and the synchronization is also revealed. It is shown that the output synchronization can be achieved exponentially in the presence of DoS attacks under the proposed control mechanisms. The validness of the provided mechanisms is certified by a simulation example. This work proposes a neural architecture search (NAS) method for portrait parsing, which is a novel up-level task based on portrait segmentation and face labeling. Recently, NAS has become an effective method in terms of automatic machine learning. However, remarkable achievements have been made only in image classification and natural language processing (NLP) areas. Meanwhile, state-of-the-art portrait segmentation and face labeling approaches are all manually designed, but few models reach a tradeoff between efficiency and performance. Thus, we are extremely interested in improving existing NAS methods for dense-per-pixel prediction tasks on portrait datasets. To achieve that, we resort to a cell-based encoder-decoder architecture with an elaborate design of connectivity structure and searching space. As a result, we achieve state-of-the-art performance on three portrait tasks, including 96.8% MIOU on EG1800 (portrait segmentation), 91.2% overall F1-score on HELEN (face labeling), and 95.1% overall F1-score on CelebAMask-HQ (portrait parsing) with only 2.29M model parameters. That is, our approach compares favorably with all previous works on portrait datasets. More crucially, we empirically prove that even a fundamental encoder-decoder architecture may reach an outstanding result on the aforementioned tasks with the help of the innovative approach of NAS. To the best of our knowledge, our work is also the first to report the success of applying NAS on these portrait tasks.
