oli, numerous chloroplasts with thylakoids and starch grains, mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum profiles, Golgi apparatus, vesicles, and multivesicular bodies. Many vacuoles contained phenolic compounds dissolved or forming various condensed deposits. The secretion components were transported through symplast elements, and the granulocrine and eccrine modes of nectar secretion were observed. The secretion was accumulated in the subcuticular space at the trichome apex and released through a pore in the cuticle. Histochemical and fluorescence assays showed that the trichomes and secretion contained lipophilic and polyphenol compounds, polysaccharides, proteins, and alkaloids. We suggest that these metabolites may serve an important function in protection of plants against biotic stress conditions and may also be a source of phytopharmaceuticals in the future.
Anxiety and depression are common in the field of inpatient somatic treatment. Especially in dermatology in which the treatment of chronic diseases is very common and the risk of stigmatization by society is particularly high, mental disorders appear in every third patient. Dermatological diseases and mental disorders often negatively interact with each other leading to increased morbidity. Dermatological guidelines recommend early detection, but this is often not adequately done in practice.
We present the implementation of an easy screening for mental comorbidities in the field of inpatient dermatological treatment by using ashort questionnaire. This so-called Patient Health Questionnaire‑4 (PHQ-4) consists of four questions regarding anxiety disorders and depression. Upon reaching acertain number of points, apsychosomatic consult is automatically requested. As aresult the patient's stress is relieved and the necessary holistic treatment becomes possible.
In 2019, 83% of inpatients in our clinic were screened using the PHQ‑4; 98psychosomatic consults were performed.
Our findings so far have shown the benefit of the screening with aminimal investment of time. We recommend its comprehensive use in the field of inpatient dermatological treatment.

Diagnostic evaluation is of special relevance and atopic diathesis is a frequent pathogenic factor. We present a patient with prurigo of multifactorial etiology (atopic diathesis, impaired kidney function, diabetes and polyneuropathy). After several unsuccessful prior treatment approaches, the patient was treated with dupilumab, which resulted in a tremendous improvement of itching, skin lesions, and quality of life. This investigation was aimed to identify gene profiles in human atrial myocardium in response to chronic mechanical stretch. Right atrial appendages from 21 patients were divided into 2 groups based on the size of right atrial volume. Selleckchem Liraglutide The microarray DATA analyses differentially identified 335 genes (> 2.0-fold, corrected P less then 0.05) including "functionally unknown genes". This study identified 26 up-regulated genes (natriuretic peptide B, G protein subunit gamma 13, thyroid stimulating hormone beta, etc.) and 23 down-regulated genes (oligodendrocyte transcription factor 1, carbonic anhydrase 12, etc.), which could be responsible for chronic stretch-mediated structural remodeling in the atrium.Metagenomic studies using next-generation sequencing technologies have revealed rich human intestinal microbiome, which likely influence host immunity and health conditions including cancer. Evidence indicates a biological link between altered microbiome and cancers in the digestive system. Escherichia coli and Bacteroides fragilis have been found to be enriched in colorectal mucosal tissues from patients with familial adenomatous polyposis that is caused by germline APC mutations. In addition, recent studies have found enrichment of certain oral bacteria, viruses, and fungi in tumor tissue and fecal specimens from patients with gastrointestinal cancer. An integrative approach is required to elucidate the role of microorganisms in the pathogenic process of gastrointestinal cancers, which develop through the accumulation of somatic genetic and epigenetic alterations in neoplastic cells, influenced by host genetic variations, immunity, microbiome, and environmental exposures. The transdisciplinary field of molecular pathological epidemiology (MPE) offers research frameworks to link germline genetics and environmental factors (including diet, lifestyle, and pharmacological factors) to pathologic phenotypes. The integration of microbiology into the MPE model (microbiology-MPE) can contribute to better understanding of the interactive role of environment, tumor cells, immune cells, and microbiome in various diseases. We review major clinical and experimental studies on the microbiome, and describe emerging evidence from the microbiology-MPE research in gastrointestinal cancers. Together with basic experimental research, this new research paradigm can help us to develop new prevention and treatment strategies for gastrointestinal cancers through targeting of the microbiome.
Unlike other antipsychotics, our previous positron emission tomography (PET) study demonstrated that a single dose of blonanserin occupied dopamine D
as well as dopamine D
receptors in healthy subjects. However, there has been no study concerning the continued use of blonanserin.
We examined D
and D
receptor occupancies in patients with schizophrenia who had been treated with blonanserin.
Thirteen patients with schizophrenia participated. PET examinations were performed on patients treated with clinical dosage of blonanserin or olanzapine alone. A crossover design was used in which seven patients switched drugs after the first scan, and PET examinations were conducted again. D
and D
receptor occupancies were evaluated by [
C]-(+)-PHNO. We used nondisplaceable binding potential (BP
) of 6 healthy subjects which we previously reported as baseline. To consider the effect of upregulation of D
receptor by continued use of antipsychotics, D
receptor occupancy by blonanserin in seven subjects who completed 2 PET scans were re-analyzed by using BP
of olanzapine condition as baseline.
