In this study, CAP biodegradation by six consortia and isolated Sphingomonas sp. CL5.1 were systematically investigated using the combination of high-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry, second-generation, and third-generation sequencing technologies. The CAP-degrading capability of six consortia was enhanced while CAP mineralization rate declined after long-term enrichment. The microbial community structures of six consortia were all simplified with 69%-82% decline in species richness after continuous passages for one year. The core genera of consortia CL and CH included Sphingomonas, Cupriavidus, Burkholderia, Chryseobacterium, and Pigmentiphaga, which accounted for over 98% of the total population. Sphingomonas was discovered as a new CAP degrader that could subsist on CAP as the sole carbon, nitrogen, and energy sources. Sphingomonas sp. CL5.1 was able to completely remove 120 mg/L CAP within 48 hours with a mineralization rate of 50.4%. The presence of acetate or nitrite could inhibit CAP metabolization by strain CL5.1. Four CAP metabolic pathways were constructed, including modification of the C3 hydroxyl group of CAP via acetylation, oxidization, dehydration and the bond cleavage between C1 and C2. C3 hydroxyl group dehydration and C1-C2 bond-cleavage were first reported regarding to CAP biotransformation. Strain CL5.1 played a core role in the consortia and was responsible for C3 hydroxyl oxidation, C3 dehydration, and C1-C2 bond cleavage. Genomic information of strain CL5.1 revealed the further mineralization pathways of downstream product p-nitrobenzoic acid via ortho- and meta-cleavage.A pilot-scale upgraded gravity-driven submerged membrane (GDSM) reactor was constructed to enhance nitrogen removal. The process simultaneously integrated diverse and effective nitrogen transformation paths (i.e., nitrification, partial nitrification, denitrification, anammox, and dissimilatory nitrate reduction) to achieve high nitrogen removal, with NH4+-N, TN, and COD eliminated by 94.68 ± 2.55%, 55.16 ± 5.53%, and 80.17 ± 6.75%, respectively. Gene expressions involved in the nitrogen transformations were estimated by qPCR to explore the shifts of dominant nitrogen transforming bioreactions in multiple stratified environments. Pearson correlation coefficients supported that the functional genes had more stable and active ability by complementing each other. As a result, an endogenous integration of diverse nitrogen transformation paths was achieved in a single system by artificially tailoring the distributions of microbial communities and gene expressions with enhanced nitrogen removal.Approximately 15-20% of the S. aureus genome contains mobile genetic elements that can cause discrepancies between phenotypic and genotypic identification methods. Three blood culture bottles (each from a different patient) that showed discordant results, were shown to contain 2 S. aureus isolates after additional subcultures. One bottle had MRSA and MSSA that by DNA sequence analysis differed only by 31 kb; however, the deletions encompassed parts of SCCmec including mecA and SCCM1. The second bottle contained MRSA and MSSA that differed by 124 kb; the MSSA was missing the entire SCCmec and spa regions. The last bottle contained 2 MRSA, one with ACME II disrupting SCCmec and a 24 bp spa deletion. The deletions in SCCmec and the other elements gave rise to the discrepancies between molecular and the original culture results. Confirmation of MERS-CoV infection and molecular study on the virus may require transportation of samples to specialized laboratories. While freezing at -80 °C is the gold standard method for RNA preservation, maintaining the integrity of viral RNA during transport will require additional precautions and, as a result, increase transport costs. We aimed at testing the stability of MERS-CoV RNA on spin columns of RNA extraction kit at room temperature for 16 weeks. Respiratory samples spiked with stock culture of MERS-CoV were extracted and loaded on QIAamp Viral RNA Mini Kit spin columns and preserved at room temperature. Amount of viral RNA was evaluated periodically by real-time quantitative reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction. Minimal changes in cycle threshold values over the study period were noted, suggesting stability of viral RNA by this preservation method.
Low consumption of fruit and vegetables is associated with high prevalence of non-communicable diseases, especially among South Asians. The aim of our study was to systematically review data published on fruit and vegetable intake among South Asian countries.

This review included 43 studies conducted from December 1999 to 2019 among South Asians. Literature searching was undertaken in PubMed® database and World Health Organization website. The main outcomes were pooled using random effect meta-analysis.

The highest fruit consumption by both men and women (2.4 servings/day) was found in Bhutan (2004) while the lowest reports (0.43 servings/day) were from Sri Lanka (2011) and Bangladesh (2002). With regard to vegetable consumption, Indians (2007) had the lowest reported intake (0.9 servings/day), while the highest value, 3.8 servings/day, was reported in Bhutanese adults (2014). When both intakes were considered, the highest (4.28; 95% CI, 4.02 to 4.55; p=0.15; I
=51%, p<0.001) and the lowest (1.83; 95% CI, 1.41 to 2.25; p<0.001; I
=100%, p<0.001) pooled mean values, were attained for Bhutan and Bangladesh, respectively. The highest percentage of respondents (86.2%) achieved the World Health Organization recommendation of five fruit and vegetables (400g) per day in Afghanistan (2013) whereas the lowest (0%) reported in Bangladesh (2005).

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a multifactorial autoimmune disease that combines genetics and environmental factors. The aim of this study is to determine the environmental risk factors and to investigate how virals infections are risks factors for type 1 diabetics whom have HLA DR3/DR4 predisposition in our population.

This study includes 233 subjects, 145 diabetics and 88 controls from regions of the extreme western of Algeria. All the informations related to the disease were collected using predesigned questionnaire. Using in silico approach, we attempt to improve the understanding of this analytical result by molecular mimicry, which is associated with the breakdown of several autoimmune pathologies.

The statistical study showed that history of varicella and measles infection and T1D related inheritance and type 2 diabetes are risk factors for T1D in the population of Tlemcen. We have determined the homologous antigenic regions between the glycoprotein "gE" of the varicella virus, the "hemagglutinin" of measles and the human protein "HSP60" at the level of their sequence and 3D structure. These cross-reactive epitopes bind to MHC class II molecules (HLA DR3/DR4) that predispose to T1D but not to MHC class II molecules (HLA DR2) that protect against T1D. This epitopes induce Th2 cells but only "hemagglutinin" and "Hsp60" can activate Th1 differentiation. This indicates their potential to destroy pancreatic cells β.

In the present study, we perform a literature survey of 28 PEP derivatives, then we analyzed the selectivity and affinity of these compounds against the EPSPS and DAHPS structures using consensual molecular docking, pharmacophore prediction, molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, and binding free energy calculations. Here, we propose consistent binding modes of the selected ligands and indicate that their structures show interesting pharmacophoric properties related to multi-targets inhibitors for both enzymes.
