12). Patients in SCR had a 5-year OS of 49%, whereas patients not in SCR had a 5-year OS of 23% (P=0.004). Chemotherapy toxicity was considerable but manageable. There was no treatment-related death, and 39 (70%) patients received ≥6 cycles of the planned nine chemotherapy cycles.
Adding intensive chemotherapy to surgery for treatment of DDCS is feasible and shows favourable survival data compared with previous reports. With the limitations of data from a non-controlled trial, we conclude that chemotherapy could be considered in the management of patients aged >40 years.
40 years.Pollution emissions in China are associated with the relationship between local governments and enterprises, especially in those cities with government-enterprise collusion (GEC). We evaluate the causal relationships between GEC and SO2 emissions at the enterprise level, by adopting the Propensity Score Matching-Difference in Difference method from a comprehensive environmental database. The empirical results show that, compared with those in the cities without collusion, SO2 emissions of enterprises in the colluded cities increase by 11.3% (95% Confidence Interval (CI) 0.041-0.186). These GEC effects are more substantial in the cities whose regional officials work with longer terms, in the foreign-owned or small-scale enterprises, and the labour-intensive industries. The findings suggest the existing environment and personnel management policies in China should be adjusted for more sustainable development.Water shortage has become one of the most serious challenges faced by humans. Thus, improving water use behaviors and saving water are critical. SF1670 datasheet In this paper, based on the extended Value-Belief-Norm (VBN) theory, we used the structural equation model and the survey data of 558 households in the Loess Hilly Region to analyze the key factors affecting water saving behaviors of farmers. The domestic water consumption of farmers in Loess Hilly Region is mainly for diet and personal hygiene. The water-saving behaviors of farmers are significantly affected by their willingness, knowledge and age. Personal habits, policy incentives, egocentric values and biospheric values indirectly affect the willingness to save water by acting on personal water-saving norms. Gender and annual household income also have a significant impact on water-saving willingness of farmers. The estimation results of multi-group structural equation model and full-sample structural equation model are generally consistent, and there are significant differences in the influence of gender and water source adjustment variables on water-saving behaviors among different hypothetical paths. Among them, female, cellar water and well water groups have the greater impact on water-saving behaviors. These results provide references for policy makers to formulate effective rural water-saving strategies. Policymakers should strengthen the propagandize of water-saving knowledge and skills, popularize knowledge about water resources and ecological environment changes, encourage farmers to develop good water use habits, and actively promote the subsidy system for water-saving appliances. Then they should establish a supervision and management mechanism of water resources to stimulate farmers to save water, which realize the sustainable use of local water resources. The Paris Agreement calls for countries to pursue efforts to limit global-mean temperature rise to 2 °C compared to the pre-industrial level. To achieve this, it is essential to accelerate the low-carbon transition of energy system. China is the largest carbon emitter and plays a decisive role in mitigating global climate change. The transition pathways for China to contribute to meeting the global 2 °C target, however, have not been extensively explored. Here we develop a bottom-up national energy technology model (C3IAM/NET), a linear optimization model, to reveal the energy consumption, carbon emissions and technology pathway at the national and sectoral levels in line with the 2 °C climate target. Results show that China's carbon emissions need to peak at the year 2023 and reduce to 3.56 GtCO2 by mid-century. During the 2020-2050 planning horizon, the remaining carbon budget is estimated to be controlled within 234 GtCO2, with a cumulative emission reduction of 165.3 GtCO2, of which the power sector bearing the largest share of responsibility, followed by the industry, transportation and building sectors. We project that China's primary energy consumption needs to peak before 2040 and the proportion of non-fossil energy in energy structure needs to reach 76% by 2050, and about 88.4% of electricity production comes from renewables and nuclear energy. The COVID-19 pandemic has hit the world hardly as of the beginning of 2020 and quickly spread worldwide from its first-reported point in early Dec. 2019. By mid-March 2021, the COVID-19 almost hit all countries worldwide, with about 122 and 2.7 million confirmed cases and deaths, respectively. As a strong measure to stop the infection spread and deaths, many countries have enforced quarantine and lockdown of many activities. The shutdown of these activities has resulted in large economic losses. However, it has been widely reported that these measures have resulted in improved air quality, more specifically in highly polluted areas characterized by massive population and industrial activities. The reduced levels of carbon, nitrogen, sulfur, and particulate matter emissions have been reported and confirmed worldwide in association with lockdown periods. On the other hand, ozone levels in ambient air have been found to increase, mainly in response to the reduced nitrogen emissions. In addition, improved water quality in natural water resources has been reported as well. Wastewater facilities have reported a higher level of organic load with persistent chemicals due to the increased use of sanitizers, disinfectants, and antibiotics. The solid waste generated due to the COVID-19 pandemic was found to increase both qualitatively and quantitatively. This work presents and summarizes the observed environmental effects of COVID-19 as reported in the literature for different countries worldwide. The work provides a distinct overview considering the effects imposed by COVID-19 on the air, water, wastewater, and solid waste as critical elements of the environment.Modeling canopy interception is fundamental for understanding the forests' role in local and regional hydrology. In this study, canopy interception (CI), throughfall (TF), and stemflow (SF) were evaluated for a semi-deciduous Atlantic Forest (AFR) from 2013 to 2019, where a prolonged dry period occurred. The Gash and Liu models were analyzed in detail to determine the most appropriate for modeling CI throughout drought conditions. Thus, the climatic parameters were retrieved annually by a modified TF-based method (EI%), whereas the structural parameters represented the entire period. The contribution of the energy stored in the forest (i.e. air and biomass; Q) to CI was also assessed in the AFR stand. Both models performed well when using EI%, as the Gash model overestimated CI by 71 mm (4.6%), whereas the Liu model underestimated it by only 13 mm (0.85%). This performance is due to an increased Q and turbulent mechanisms (such as advection and strong updrafts) that occur in drought conditions and are indirectly accounted for in EI%. However, the Liu model stood out for modeling CI under a prolonged dry period, as the exponential wetting approach better represents the complex canopies of the semi-deciduous forests. Thus, we recommend the Liu model and additional energy sources when dealing with prolonged droughts, as in the case of climate change scenarios projected to the studied region.Collaborative governance plays an important role in air pollution prevention (APP). This paper aims to evaluate the policy effects of collaborative governance for APP in the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) region, analyze the collaborative mechanism from the perspective of institutional collective action (ICA) theory, and discuss its implications for improving the policy effects and regional collaboration. First, the causal relationship between collaborative environmental governance and air pollutant reduction is confirmed using the regression discontinuity design (RDD). However, it is also established that regional APP policies initiated by the Regional Cooperation Office of Yangtze River Delta (RCOYRD) did not have a long-term effect on reducing air pollutants. Second, initiative heterogeneity and administrative hierarchy heterogeneity of policy effects between cities are analyzed. It demonstrates that the mechanism formulated by RCOYRD has very limited impact on the reduction of transaction costs and collaborative risks of collaborative environmental governance. Third, clear division of responsibilities, balanced cost-benefit sharing, and coordinated enforcement between local governments are needed to improve the policy effects of collaborative governance for APP.Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed type of cancer among women. For the last fifteen years, treatments that are less invasive than lumpectomy, such as high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) therapy, have been developed, with encouraging results. In this study, a toroidal HIFU transducer was used to create lesions of at least 2 cm in diameter within less than one minute of treatment. The toroidal HIFU transducer created two focal zones that led to large, fast and homogeneous ablations (10.5 cc/min). The experiments were conducted in 30 human samples of normal breast tissues recovered from mastectomies to measure acoustic attenuation (N = 30), and then, HIFU lesions were created (N = 15). link2 Eight HIFU ablations were performed to evaluate the reproducibility of the lesions. HIFU lesions were created in 45 s with a toroidal HIFU transducer working at 2.5 MHz. link3 The longest and shortest axes of the HIFU lesions were 21.7 ± 3.1 mm and 23.5 ± 3.3 mm respectively, corresponding to an average volume of 7.3 ± 1.4 cm3. These HIFU lesions were performed at an average depth of 19.0 ± 1.5 mm, while the integrity of the skin was preserved. The HIFU-treated breast tissues had a higher level of attenuation (0.57 ± 0.11 Np.cm-1.MHz-1) when compared to the untreated tissues (0.21 ± 0.04 Np.cm-1.MHz-1). This study shows the feasibility of a fast and fully noninvasive treatment using a toroidal transducer for breast tumors measuring up to 15 mm in diameter. The pervasive presence of nitric oxide (NO) in cells and its role in modifying cystein residues through protein S-nitrosylation is a remarkable redox based signalling mechanism regulating a variety of cellular processes. S-NITROSOGLUTATHIONE REDUCTASE (GSNOR) governs NO bioavailability by the breakdown of S-nitrosoglutathione (GSNO), fine-tunes NO signalling and controls total cellular S-nitrosylated proteins. Most of the published data on GSNOR functional analysis is based on the model plant Arabidopsis with no previous report for its effect on in vitro regeneration of tissue cultured plants. Moreover, the effect of GSNOR overexpression (O.E) on tomato growth, development and disease resistance remains enigmatic. Here we show that SlGSNOR O.E in tomato alters multiple developmental programs from in vitro culture establishment to plant growth and fruit set. Moreover, constitutive SlGSNOR O.E in tomato showed enhanced resistance against early blight (EB) disease caused by Alternaria solani and reduction in hypersensitive response (HR)-mediated cell death after Pseudomonas syringae pv.
