Adult acquired flatfoot deformity (AAFD) is a condition affecting approximately 3% of the adult population. It can lead to severe morbidity, and therefore, prompt treatment is of the upmost importance in maintaining and restoring function. Recently, the use of subtalar arthroereisis has become more widespread in the treatment of AAFD. The purpose of this systematic review is to examine the clinical and radiological outcomes of AAFD when treated with subtalar arthroereisis.

Studies involving the use of subtalar arthroereisis for the management of AAFD were reviewed, and appropriate studies selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Studies were reviewed for both clinical and radiological outcomes following the use of subtalar arthroereisis as well as reported complications.

Nine studies met our inclusion criteria, with most of these involving stage II AAFD. A total of 190 subtalar arthroereisis procedures were performed with all studies demonstrating improvement in both clinical and radiological scores with a low rate of complications.

Subtalar arthroereisis may have benefits when used as an adjunct to treat stage II AAFD. However, more high-quality studies are needed to establish its best use.

The video-feedback with cognitive preparation allows children to contrast and modify their negative social self-image, increasing their self-confidence and decreasing anxiety behaviors. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the Super Skills for Life (SSL) program in improving social performance in a sample of children with emotional symptoms. Results indicated that both objective and subjective evaluation showed positive effects of the SSL program on the children's social performance, enhancing their social skills and reducing anxiety behaviors in social situations, both during the program and in the last session. Girls felt more comfortable and showed better speech and social performance than boys. Hyaluronic acid-transglutaminase (HA-TG) is an enzymatically crosslinkable adhesive hydrogel with chondrogenic properties demonstrated

In this study, we investigated the feasibility of using HA-TG in a collagen scaffold to treat chondral lesions in an ovine model, to evaluate cartilage regeneration in a mechanically and biologically challenging joint environment, and the influence of the surgical procedure on the repair process.

Chondral defects of 6-mm diameter were created in the stifle joint of skeletally mature sheep. In a 3-month study, 6 defects were treated with HA-TG in a collagen scaffold to test the stability and biocompatibility of the defect filling. In a 6-month study, 6 sheep had 12 defects treated with HA-TG and collagen and 2 sheep had 4 untreated defects. Histologically observed quality of repair tissue and adjacent cartilage was semiquantitatively assessed.

Several minimally invasive techniques were developed for management of intraarticular calcaneal fractures. This study aimed to compare the functional and radiological outcomes of 2 minimally invasive reduction and fixation techniques using cannulated screws or Kirschner wires (K-wires) for fixation.

This study was a retrospective comparative review of patients with displaced intraarticular calcaneal fractures, who were treated with cannulated screws or K-wires techniques. Clinical and radiological data were collected and compared between both groups. Functional outcomes and patient satisfaction using the Maryland Foot Score (MFS) and the visual analogue scale (VAS) of pain, in addition to the complications, were compared between both groups.

In total, 70 patients were included in the study 34 in the cannulated screws group, with a mean age of 35.2 ± 4 years, and 36 in the K-wires groups, with a mean age of 33.4 ± 3 years. The operative time was shorter in the K-wires group (40.5 ± 5.6 minutes) compared to the cannulated screw group (49.5 ± 4.5 minutes),
< .001. There were no statistically significant differences between both groups regarding the radiological parameters, including Bohler's angle, angle of Gissane, calcaneal width, height, or length. The mean MFS, mean VAS, and complications were not different between the 2 groups.

Treatment of displaced intraarticular calcaneal fractures with minimally invasive reduction and fixation using either cannulated screws or K-wires can achieve similar excellent functional and radiological outcomes, with high patient satisfaction. The use of K-wires has the advantage of reduced operative time than cannulated screws.
